Same problem in Austin. My 15-year-old exterior oil-rubbed bronze door handle feels. . . gummy almost? Like the clear coat kind of gummed up over time? I’m wondering if the WD-40 helped with that by removing the remaining coating or if it made it worse?

Yea, it seemed like my factory clear coat baked off. It was gummy in some parts before completely drying out and turning colors. The WD-40 was actually great at keeping it oiled and looking nice for over a year. I think it’s a yearly maintenance job at this point. Good luck with yours!

Yes. The metal finish was oxidized by the process of oxi-da-tion.

I live in Houston and have the EXACT same oil rubbed bronze front door hardware! Mine oxidized too! Will try the olive oil first and only use wd-40 on the lock mechanism and key hole. Any ideas on the water spots from rain and dew/humidity? My door is plain dark wood with a clear coat finish but soon after I had it refinished and rain and overnight dew started hitting it, I have spotting all over door. I need something to put on it that will repel the rain/dew so it doesn’t hurt the finish. Any ideas?

Watch this video. The wax in it might help your door issue. Good luck!!! th-cam.com/video/GAuXZ6mTYkA/w-d-xo.html

I am following you. This looks amazing. I hope it dries good. I’ve done something like this before with enzyme cleaner on it, and it dried back to what it looked like. Thank you so much.

Texas Hill Country here. Same issue. We have several doors and it seems that some are better than others. Those that are used frequently are not so bad. I think it is the effect of oils on the hands. But I have a lot of work to do on the others. May also consider using magic eraser or scrub daddy with one of the oils. Not a fan of olive oil - might become rancid and sticky over time.

Yep, I think the WD40 is the better of the options. Good luck!!
