Audi Q3: Adaptive Cruise Assist (on highway & traffic jam) real-life test :: [1001cars]

  • The new Audi Q3 is equipped with the adaptive cruise assist, which is an option for the engine versions with the seven-speed S tronic. The system, which is active up to 200 km/h (124.3 mph), incorporates the functions of the adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist and active lane assist. In this way it assists the driver with longitudinal and lateral control - substantially enhancing comfort on long journeys in particular.

      If the car does not have self driving level 3 or above, that is the expected behavior. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-driving_car I would highlight the last sentence: Level 2 ("hands off"): The automated system takes full control of the vehicle (accelerating, braking, and steering). The driver must monitor the driving and be prepared to intervene immediately at any time if the automated system fails to respond properly. The shorthand "hands off" is not meant to be taken literally. In fact, contact between hand and wheel is often mandatory during SAE 2 driving, to confirm that the driver is ready to intervene.

      From the cars perspective, think of it as someone grabbing your shoulders while you lead them through corridors. You need to know they are still there and your leading them on the correct path.
      As others said, its a different tier of autonomous driving.

I would like to know how you feel about this active lane keeping system. What is the most successful system for you? Audi, Mercedes, ...? The one who proposes the most precise trajectories and the most "flexible" corrections? A big thank you, and congratulations for the job.

      I have this on the 2019 A6 model and use it everyday on my commute to work. It works great, but if I had to rank most accurate and advanced system, that’s got to be the Tesla at this moment. For example, the Tesla can detect street lights and stop accordingly. It can also do full automation lane changes and exits. Audi, BMWs, and Merc’s cannot do these things yet (at least not on their production cars). While Audi is roughly a level 3 autonomous driving, Tesla is more of a level 4.

    • @RandomGuyOnTheWeb
      @RandomGuyOnTheWeb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ONI1013. Tesla is level 2, far away from level 4. Audi's level 3 traffic jam pilot is still not authorized, what you see in that video is also level 2.

    • @ONI1013.
      @ONI1013. 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dima M. - Tesla is NOT level 2 autonomous driving. Where did you get that info?? Watch these vids th-cam.com/video/0NtdZNWUBik/w-d-xo.html, th-cam.com/video/umzFDfJvhLQ/w-d-xo.html.. In actuality, the Tesla is closest to Level 3.5/4, but not fully realized 4 due to regulations. And the Audi Level 3 is authorized in Europe, along with the Parking Pilot. You’re referring to the US region Audi’s which is only L2.

    • @RandomGuyOnTheWeb
      @RandomGuyOnTheWeb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ONI1013. You need to differentiate between prototypes and production stage. What your video shows is the level 3-4 "Full Self-Driving Capability"-prototype, which is NOT available on the market yet (even though the needed hardware is already installed on model X and the feature itself is preorderable). Audi also has prototypes that are considered as level 3-4 (th-cam.com/video/TFgdZx9_4NY/w-d-xo.html). Audi's level 3 "Traffic jam pilot" is already fully functional, but not authorized as far as i know.
      Tesla's system available on the market, like the adaptive cruise control, autosteer and so on, are all level 2. Autopark is actually level 5, but parking is not really driving and other manufacturers have equivalent autoparking systems, too.
      My level 2 statement for tesla referred to the current "Autopilot", not the "Full Self-Driving Capability"-prototype. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-driving_car#Classification ("Tesla Autopilot system is considered to be an SAE level 2 system.") or en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_Autopilot ("Tesla's Autopilot with Hardware version 1 (HW1) can be classified as somewhere between levels 2 and 3") or cleantechnica.com/2017/12/02/autonomous-driving-levels-0-5-implications/ ("Tesla’s Autopilot is considered by many to be at this level [3]. Though, a more critical take is that it’s still at Level 2.").
