Playing tank in Overwatch is like flipping a coin. You either die instantly or never die at all.

Exactly why I stopped playing tank, I have virtually no agency and there's 5 people chasing me at all times and 4 other blaming me in chat. It's basically be in front and try not to die. But there's also a reaper and/or a bastion that want to swiftly get rid of you specifically, so the rest of the team falls over. So you resort to praying your DPS beat their DPS which is usually determined in advance by the matchmaking. So playing DPS feels so much better too since you just go brrr, it creates danger and it impacts the other team immediately, as a DPS you ARE in control.

As a support main I can guarantee you it's never a tanks fault. Whenever I get killed in the backlines it's because the dps I'm around is unaware of their surroundings (even when I call the flankers).. Tanks are being given too much pressure and responsibility this season and I'm so sorry

Dmg output for tanks is terrible atm or it feels like securing kills by yourself is near impossible

Omg, right? I just started to play tank again somewhat more often since Ow1 and oh boy, it's the worst thing ever. Granted I'm not that good nor do I claim to be the mvp or somthing, but holy f**k, it's absolutely tiresome and a nightmare. I respect tank players even more now.
support is the easiest role, tank is the most painfull role to play, and the reason why support are so strong is because most players who doesn t do good play support so to make them feel they are usefull they turn support OP, but as they are op we need a shit tone of damage counter the op healers
@@frozenvodka This is the worst, least informed take ever, and I hate that it's so popular. The reason tank is ass to play is because in OW1 DPS was juiced up to be able to compete with two tanks that had an average hp value of around 1000 between hp and armor, not to mention defensive abilities. In the shift to OW2 virtually none of the heroes in DPS had their damage nerfed, and the single tanks where giga buffed, and also severely over tuned. In season 1 of OW2 tanks where holding entire teams at spawn. They started rolling out patches where they could, but their hot fix system was broken, and patches where locked to a mid season and beginning season patch at the time because of work flow and something to do with console needing a certain amount of time to role them out.
By season 3 they got to a place where tanks where balanced to where there was a constant rock paper scissors on which tanks diffed the other. And then they reached a point where only one too two tanks where dominant at a time, well pretty much anything else was non-viable past a certain rank. In the mean time, it took them from season 1 too 3 of OW2 to give some supports play making power, and from season 3 on-wards they started rolling back several buffs to supports, life weaver came out and was a joke and still is, and on top of that they've been handing out the most OP, dumb ass buffs imaginable to DPS. Like hinder on cass nade, Sym being able to heal herself and also two tap with her secondary fire, tracer basically has shotgun spread and doesn't have to aim if she's within 5 meters, bastion can regen 50 armor by swapping into tank mode, and they put solder 76's damage almost to the point it was at launch, when he was a dominant power house who was wiping the floor with anything that wasn't a tank 1v1.
Tanks are currently suffering under the meta of over tuned dps who can melt them and burn through their defensive abilities like it's nothing, and it's even worse because now that it's a single player in the role they have to be responsible for the entire sweet of tank duties, so even the smallest difference in skill between tanks gets amplified, and forces the rest of the team to compensate. Pretty much every match this season is pray to god that you can use terrain to separate yourself from the huge bursts of damage, and then return fire just as hard, and hope that your healing and tank cool downs can keep you alive long enough to snowball the team fight.
The game won't get better for tanks until they start scaling back damage across the board on dps, and then they can work on reeling in healing a bit, and find a good balance on tank damage and health pools. But most of the problems tanks face can be boiled down to DPS just output too much damage, and making the role solo que just exacerbates the smallest mistakes anyone int he role makes.

Oh my god same, normally on mercy I have to have myself look back and forth 24/7 to see if my tank is doing okay or if my co healer is healing the other team when I damage boost dps. I'm sick and tired of baby sitting tanks if I look the other way for one second they just die instantly. Honestly fed up of support this season.

I say this as a support main, it's wild to me that we got both all this damage creep _and_ this healing creep, but ofc if you're not support then you being able to capitalize on all the healing creep aspect isn't really up to you lol

What does creep mean in this context
@@user-br3cn1fy1y generalized, it means you’re weirdly disturbing to others or something else is unsettling, in the game context, it means that the level of things overtake another thing. So for example, a power creep of one character means that it may overtake another character’s current status.
imagine soending like 7 years balancing a game around having 2 tanks to just remove one and not nerf everyones damage and healing and leaving off tanks like ball in a practically unplayable state, well done blizzard

The thing that kills me about tanking in OW2 is that every decision you make...never feels like the right one. You commit to doing something, but there's two other elements of the team fight you have to neglect (deliberate word choice there) to do so. I legitimately don't know anymore if 5v5 is good, because it's increasingly obvious one tank isn't working.
Ranked has felt so bad the last week. I started the season 25-12 and im now 32-23 in the last few days. Whatever role me and my friends dont fill either throws or plays terrible.
i had a sombra on my team with 0 dmg waving to the enemy team saying she was “creating world peace”
Last game I played was fun evidence of that.. I ended the game with 3 times the elims (and more damage) than both dps on our team and still had the highest healing of the lobby by a bit. I know stats only say so much.. but that does say enough lol.

The low rank meta this season has been Orisa(hard lock), Basion(hard lock), Reaper (soft lock), Ana (hard lock), and Zen (soft lock), and as a tank main who doesn't have fun with orisa, it has been the most infuriating season of my entire life. I'm sorry you're starting to feel my pain.

It's not even hard locks half the time. They'll start on a halfway decent comp, sometimes a rein or doom duel and you think it's actually gonna be a decent game, and then they lose one fight and go full sweat. At this point I just play quick play because at least when they do that I don't have to switch cause it doesn't matter

You know what I think a good passive for the tank would be? Having it so, the more team mates you have alive around you the more HP / damage resistance / something, the tank gets. Would help diversify targets, Incentivise the tank to protect the team, and for the team to play with the tank, and allow the tank to not be as squishy.

Idk I kind of feel like damage and healing are too strong right now. On the one hand you can just get melted on the other hand sometimes you unload everything you have on people and they JUST DONT DIE. Might be a skill issue on my part but I think the game would be more enjoyable if the healing and damage creep was toned down a bit.

They'd have to nerf tank health as well if they're gonna do that. But then it just comes right back around full circle. Healing too much, damage too much, nerf the tank health, and so on

Bro lots of my games have been decent tanks at a fucking deadlock. The deciding factor is DPS. And I know a DPS off rolling tank when I see one. Overwatch has dumbed down the game and now is reaping it's corpse.

I feel like damage and healing across the board needs to be cut by like 50%. at least 25%. Tanks just either melt or get enough healing that they never die at all. Maybe cut damage by 40 and healing by 50 idk. its a miserable experience even in gold and below

That swinging health bar gives me a heart attack every time I see it. It's friggin' terrifying to play tank these days. The damage and the healing really do need a nerf
I'm ok with them readding some forms of CC to the game but I really think they should give tanks some counter to it. Like it's ridiculous at this point how easy it is to explode as the tank when CC'd for even a second.
I feel like every tank deserves some kind of 'unstoppable' status effect attached to one of their cooldowns that lasts for like 1 second at this point. Just because there's a lot of cc in the game (especially since DPS are getting theirs back) and there's only 1 tank. To clarify; yes I'm suggesting they get an ability that negates cc for 1 second but it's attached to only 1 of their cooldowns.
For example; Doom block, Ramm block, the start of Rein charge, the start of dva boost, start of winton jump, commanding shout, Sigma grasp, Ball's slam, beginning of hog ult (hesitant about this because it hinges on hog rework). Orissa and Zarya already have an unstoppable built into 1 of their abilities. All of this can be debated over at will but it's just a starting point for that conversation.
I've suggested it before but I'd love if people would think about it and consider at least making it so that they (and not Support) would be somewhat immune or have a mitigated effect from crowd control. I think if you gave tanks some form of CC mitigation, the role would feel far less unfun to play because you'd know you had at least *some* form of counterplay to the stuff being hurled at you.

THIS. I used to main Sig and Jq. I’ve switched to playing sorj/Torb for dps n zen/Lucio/Illari for support constantly now cuts not worth stressing as tank currently

Genuinely enjoyed playing tank in OW1, but not in OW2. So much of it is feeling like the tank cant do anything. I got to gold on tank last season and now I'm also dropped back into silver because I get games where my DPS aren't really doing their job, then I get blamed and I just plummet. Like I had a game where my DPS combined for 30 deaths and 6 kills, and my supports said it was my fault. This game sucks for the tank, I only feel like I do damage as SIg, and even then its a fifty-fifty
I’m a doom main so it’s easier to blame me for some reason. I was 12 and 2 other dps were 5 and 10 and 6 and 9. I don’t care how bad I am at “tanking” you die 10 times your doing something wrong. I got blamed naturally, all my games I lose are like this. And that was probably my last comp game for a few months.

I'm like a diamond/master tank player and I play QP with my friends who are in gold. This is basically every game that I play if I get tank, not enjoyable

I don't know man, lately I've had diamond matches where some asphalt 5 player goes 4 and 10 with 1k damage and then once asked why he's negative goes and leaves the match and rejoins just to "reset" his stats; only to fall back into the red. With OW being free I feel like there is no longer, what I call, a "skill buy-in" Where a person who spent money on a game knows that have to at least get somewhat good in order to get what they feel is their money's worth. Where as in F2P there is no risk, if it doesn't fit they could leave and delete the game. I feel that when faced with an entry charge, no matter the cost be it $5 or $60 they know to some extent that they now have to work to earn their place. That's not to say that those who play F2P don't take the games seriously, I'm sure hundreds do, but there seems to be a fairly large percentage who don't care, who would rather treat a competitive game so casually that it poisons the experience for many. I also understand that for many games such as Fortnite and Apex this doesn't really apply, but Overwatch doesn't really fit into their categories. Overwatch was released with a $60 price tag, and knowing this thousands bought in and learned the fundamentals of the game and grew with it as it changed and progresses. Going free to play may have lifted this barrier, which in all fairness is fine, allowing more people to partake in the game without needing to pay a hefty price, but it also let in many who don't want to even try, if they stayed in unranked that would be fine, but they have slowly moved into comp, where they don't try and ruin most matches. The shift from unranked to comp may come from the mentality that only comp games are worth it, yet even then they see no reason to try because, and I quote, "I don't care."

Everyone's complaining about season 6 but it's been like this for 3 seasons now and it's only getting worse. Balance sucks, matchmaking sucks, supports are so overtuned to the point where there's so many fail-safes to keep people from dying or to save them from bad positioning. It's kinda incredible how in a game with so many heroes most of them are basically unplayable if you want a fighting chance, especially on tank. Enemy tank loses one fight and goes orisa, stands still, wins. Their dps go some combination of bastion/reaper/sombra/cass and either shred you or disable your abilities (very cool for doom mains). Riveting gameplay. And that's just quick play, I don't even bother with comp anymore

All DPS got much stronger in ow2 with one less tank so support was terrible to play, as a result they overbuffed healing, now you either be constantly pocketed by healers as tank or just explode instantly.
I'm a diamond zarya player and I can't step foot out of a corner without being pocketed, healers get distracted for more than 1 or 2 seconds and I'm toast.

I Have personal grudge and deep hatred towards most of these heroes so I don't think I can take single match of this anymore.

When their reaper ints like that, I expect him to die, at least in your rank. Your dps weren't focusing the right targets imo.
I find it so funny how you were pointing out the heal creep at the start of the season and said we should try it out for a bit and how fast it's just not fun anymore. You were calling out the damage creep I remember back in season 1 and they haven't done anything to fix it. They really need a mass damage and heal nerf or maybe just do a mass health buff (so that people don't get pissy at getting nerfed). I do feel taking out 1 tank just drops the overall health pool so much and means that as we are seeing either you get healed and never die or your supports look away for a second and just get deleted.
Also that bit at the end about how you lose the games you try your best and win the ones you were doing awful is how I have been feeling too.

Hot take: nerf everyone's damage by 10% as a starter. So if Soldier's helix rockets do 80 damage, 10% is 8, so then remove 8 from 80 and you get 72. It's not a big nerf, but it's enough to make the game shift just a bit. After like a week or two, nerf the healing abilities to adjust.

I really wanted to improve as a tank since i ranked up from silver to gold at the end of Overwatch 1 and i've been gold 2 in OW 2, but now is just painful play the role.
The only thing that amaze me is how Blizzard doesn't give an f about making the game fun and fair for all players, even that the main content creators said everything about what is wrong with OW 2.
Playing tank this season feels very miserable. The best thing is that I think we all anticipated it but we are still playing.

OW2 is a hypermonitized version of the bad parts of OW1 with a permanent Archives event you have to pay to play.

As a honest tank main- who is a ow2 player I find the tank needing to do alot more now. With the new hero and way more but mostly it's your team so if you say your a bad tank u are not. It's most likely your dps.
The health pools in the game are just too low at this point and Kiriko and Illari have too much burst. And discord orb and damage boost need removed from the game. Honestly if you remove discord and damage boost, and readjust kiriko and illari to have the same DPS but less burst, it would solve A LOT of problems.
