Can we just appreciate.. that this was filmed on location in front of strangers and random passersby, and Ben just goes off without a care in the world, completely immersing himself. His dedication to his craft never ceases to blow me away. Respect.

I don't know what to feel. I don't know if I am supposed to like this man, but I know that I do. I don't know if I am supposed to feel empathy for him, but I do. I also don't know if I am supposed to like or feel empathy for the people who are forced to interact with him. But I do. I therefore conclude this to be directorial success, a thematic success, and an artistic success.

I personally think this short film is much better than the feature film based off it lately- SURGE. Why? Because Whishaw's antics can be sustained more appropriately within a 10 minute time construct than 90, 100 mins...and it doesn't exactly explain any sort or hint of mental illness or autism on the character's part in BEAT.

It's brilliant! Can't stop watching it. How could you direct a performance like that?

My nervousness nd fear kept climbing up until the end: the character's behavior, the music, the way he and the environment interacted with each other. BEAT: first thought it meant getting beaten up for being chaotic and havoc-causing; then, ah, he's dancing to a different beat because he loves to dance; shifted to, ah, he dances to a different call. The character seemed to have these actions as the only way to communicate to people, to get a reaction. Could be as, after he gets the reactions (no matter how violent), he calms after and smiles. Bravo to both writer/director Aneil Karia, actor Ben Whishaw, the music director, and the rest of the production team.

Watch " surge " it's on Netflix. Starts off a tad slow but just keeps getting better and believable to.

Confusing but my conclusion is that our main character has depression and gets bugged out constantly by people when he go out. In order to avoid bugging he acts crazy so people are confused and don't know how to respond which is in a way better than the other way around. But who in the world will go for such an extreme behavior just to get their grocery shopping done or have a coffee in a café? Nonsense if that's the case here, there are million ways to dodge people without doing disco on the street.

At 0:53, there is a picture that seem to represent a very sad Christ. Looking beaten too. Do anybody know by whom it is ?

I have the feeling, that the guy in the movie needs attention. The more he gets it, the more he feels relieved. His lust for attention is so big, he have to beat it to calm down. But he does it in a different way.

I THINK: it is just a portrait of an individual at the edge of society, whose only way left to communicate and expressing himself is by beating or getting beat.
