I don´t think that "manners" is related to mores (latin) or morality as S Fry says at 5.30 . It comes from "manus", or "maniere" the way we practice is the way we are...
The costumes are way out of sync in this production! The women's attire is (sort of) 1780s, but the men's cutaway coats and tall peaked hats are c.1800-10. Clearly the costume designer didn't do her homework, or probably thought nobody would know the difference. There are those of us who do!
It was so cute! It perfectly captures the novella so perfectly. It's very tongue-in-cheek, satirical and sharp-witted.
