The Yokohama is one of my favorite winter squashes. I've grown it two years in a row. These short videos (about a particular heirloom vegetable) are a wonderful way to introduce them to gardeners!

Hi. I'm growing Yokohama squash this year. Is the skin soft and edible like kabocha squash or hard and rigid like butternut?

This is a beautiful plant. I grew it for the first time this year. Big producer! I only grew two plants and harvested over a dozen squash. The leaves were 12"-14" across and they were beautiful. The blooms were massive and gorgeous.

Oooo, I love Yokohama squash! So delicious, and such a fine texture.
A must grow for me every year. Thanks for the video! (And thanks for making the seeds available!)

Oh wow amazing documentary. Wow what a story that it was almost lost and then reintroduced back to Japan and they had forgotten about this. Amazing. That flavor sounds so interesting and it can grow tropical? I will have to try this squash. I'm a big fan of pumpkins and winter squash. I just love cucurbits.

I like these videos, with the narration, best. I don't need to see someone eating the produce (let alone continuing to talk with their mouth full!). I like the history & info, without wasting my time, sitting through biting & chewing.

I grew it last year in western washington with EXCELLENT results. We will be growing it again this year. We will likely have some turn up in the compost pile (along with hybrids). Those might be some strange looking hybrids because we had the Yokohamas between the galeux d'eysines and the Lakota squash. Gotta love squash!

I've seen this variety in your catalog, but never really paid much attention to it. My garden space is already committed for 2019, but I can certainly try growing out Yokohama for 2020. Thank you for providing the history of this variety -- fascinating! Best wishes. Kate in Olympia, WA

I am in Italy so I can't buy seeds from you, but I have some Yokohama seeds from a local heirloom non profit seed organization, and now I'm even more excited to grow them! Do you think they would work well in a 3 sisters system? That's what I was planning.

They'd probably be best sown in February or March in your area. Established fruits may continue to ripen for you, but any new blossoms on the vines may drop when the temps soar.

Here I was thinking I can limit my garden to one squash. Nope. Have selected four that I just have to grow and I want to save seed yet keep each one from cross-pollinating, so, a lot of time-consuming hand pollination is ahead of me.
