9 August 2020, singapore's 55th birthday today. looking back at this ndp celebration makes me super proud of our achievements and grateful to late Mr Lee kuan yew. its singapore's first maritime sail past since after 20 years!!
I was in the maintenance support contingent behind the Guard of Honour.. Saw the confusion with my own eyes. Some put down the rifles, some hesitated as there was supposed to be third round of shooting.
Time really flies. It has been 22 years already.
I bet everyone in the Contingent was like: Isn't there one more shot?
Good ol'days. The atmosphere was electrifying.

really great. this was the year i went for my primary 5 NE show. since then NDP has been very close to my heart. involved in parade & ceremonies committee in 2011 and 2012.
this was the year where i first participated in NDP. I can still remember i was at Marina Bay for duties in the afternoon. The old canto, the steamboat area etc now fully replace by Garden by the Bay... miss the old days...
The music instrumental version of NDP song Shine On Me was played at NDP 2012 just 12 years later to welcome our MPs, in history for Year Of The Dragon.
I like the finale .. where the parade and ceremony participant stand together ... and sing national anthem and plegde >.
They were not dreaming - the Parade Commander gave the wrong command and missed a third round of feu-de-joie.
Haha we in the choir were wondering why only 2 rounds when rehearsals were all 3 rounds.

Good times. Won't forget the tough rehearsals! Recent NDPs of late pale in comparison to the golden years. Will always miss those years.
President Tony Tan was Minister for Defence and Deputy Prime Minister at that time.

If I were to be the Chief of Defence or Commissioner of Police and if my parade commander misses out the third command for Feu de Joie I'll slap him in front of all the Guard of Honour after the parade
So apparently the parade commander was my uncle's former higher up in the army
guess he was officially unemployed the next day lol
No, no one made a comment about it actually, i was told by my uncle he was a nice person so nobody made fun of him or anything

That was our then President SR Nathan's first NDP at the Padang and his last National Day Parade was held in 2011 before his 12-year term ended.

I kept the VHS tape in an ordinary cabinet. It was found full of fungus after so many years. And tape snapped after spinning. um .. lot of work . . .
Back then the marching music was actually played by the combined band. Now all pre-recorded..
yes .. but then they still play behind the scene but very soft .. >.< i am the parade participant :D . Now getting bored cause every year same concept
The band still plays live, but now as you said there's a pre-recorded track playing in sync with the live music. Since the band is always at the back these days, you can't really hear them play from far away without mics unless they play REALLY loudly. I was in NDP 2018 in the BB contingent and they were very near us so we can actually hear them play

Oh i see. I was 5 years old that time. Remember that NDP 2000 Preview 14 years back??? President Tony Tan our then DPM and Defence Minister, was the reviewing officer then. 12 years later at NDP 2012, it was his first National Day as our nation's seventh President.
