Hi Nate- Just wanted to thank you for the series. I put in a Bus Depot canvas a year or two ago. Now it is time to pull the pop top and do the clean and prime and paint. My westy will be 40 next year. Seems only right to dress it up!
Thanks for sharing, explains a lot! We are excited to finally install our new 3 window this weekend. It has been in the box for two years waiting for the border to be open so my buddy Pascal can come for a visit and supervise this project. It's going to be a Brakes and Tent kind of weekend!!
Thank you so much Simon! It was a hard series to film and as you can see, we lost some important footage. We have lot's of videos planned and will drop a product review video next weekend. Take care nate
Thanks Brad, it did turn out pretty good, I was just hoping I could get it as taunt as the factory tent. It makes the van look a bit more modern too. nate
oh yea it was worth it... you need the 3 windows for sure....I'm doing automotive paint since I already have it. I thought I could paint my vanagon artic white, but the flash in the door jambs and doors, Oy ! So I bought L90D pastel white. Artice white is a bright white and it looks fine on these machines.... thanks for posting, I am doing this once it warms up....
Automotive paint is also a great paint for it. If I was spraying the entire van I would have gone that route for sure. Then it would have matched the body. Our van was resprayed years and years ago poorly and I will need a full sand and spray probably in the next 10 years or so. Not looking forward to sanding all of that paint off! nate
@@ThatBaldwinLife I think it's ok the roof is a little off when you have a pastel white van and if you have artic white, the bright top still looks good. After I took the tape of my top and saw the yellowish Pastel white, I said I don't care, white will be fine. I do have pastel white left over, so who knows...have to make a decision soon...
Mine is pastel white too - I was told it was arctic white but the code shows pastel white......I am spraying the cowel behind the front bumper today after welding in some patches.....I will find out whether or not it matches later on!
It is much better to do it when it is warm out but I choose a tough time of the year when it was cold and it made it a lot harder. The wheels are the 16" Carrot wheels that VanCafe used to sell. Last time I checked they only offered them in 15" now. nate
Two reasons I guess. One the original canvas held up amazing for over 30 years so this canvas should last a good while. Second, the acrylic is bulkier and doesn't breath as well as canvas. Even though it may repel water a bit better, we like the breathability of canvas. nate

Well done guys.
It looks so much cleaner now
Thanks Stephen. We forget how bad it was until we look at the old pics!

Nice install, looks nice and taut. The grey 3 window is the way to go and matches the interior well. Good work.

Looks great, I bet that will be really nice this summer!
It will make for a nice breeze in the tent at Descend!
@@ThatBaldwinLife I just payed big bucks to have this done. Advertise in the Samba and you could make $.
Thanks John but I am not sure this is the type of project I would want to do many more times!

Agreed the two colors of white look just fine. Decisions, decisions....

Great video, going to give it a go as soon as the UK weather picks up. What wheels are they?

nate

Thanks!
Nate

Interlux Brightside polyurethane paint

Nice work! Just out of curiosity why did you pick the canvas tent over acrylic?

well Baldwin Life, 2 years later, I have come back as the tent is going on !! Today.
Good luck! It can be frustrating and tricky but take your time.
