I lost my father this morning to cancer and will be playing this song at his memorial. He was such a loving man and held a deep love for his children and grandchildren and was able to meet his newest granddaughter a few days before he passed. He just kept kissing her over and over again which brought such warmth to my heart. He was a wonderful man and will never be forgotten. Thank you Colin Hay for this beautiful song.
Talk to your relatives about your Father, ask them to tell you stories of him when he was young, what he was like as a teenager, as a young man, how your parents met and how he grew when he became a Father. Your families memories of him will fade as will many of yours, get this info now. Gather all the photos you can find and make copies. My Father passed when I was 8 and I have 1 photo of him and me... I'm 59.
I lost my dad when he was 58. I'm 57 now, and this song resonates in my heart now more than ever. Your dad was proud of you, no doubt Colin. Thanks Mr. Hay.
I just lost my father who has been my best friend for life. I took care of him the last 4 years and that time made me a lot more close to him. Now heleft an imense hole in my heart in a way I think I will never get over. May God bless all fathers all over 🙏
I lost my dad over 20 years ago at 80... the amazing thing ... whether during the lowest or highest moments, I'm still learning from him all the time...love ya DAD....Thanks Colin....
I remember everyone telling me at the funeral that it would get easier. That was 18 years ago. I'm still waiting. I dream about him all the time. He never says anything, he's just there. But I wish he was still here.
This song should be selected for preservation in the United States Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant,". An absolute beauty!
What makes this song so great is the honesty, and truth, and the love. You can see it in his face, and hear it in his voice. And anyone who has lost his or her dad, including myself, knows exactly how he feels. Beautifully done. Good on ya, Mr. Hay......
I've lost my father 4 years ago at the age of seventeen. It was hard to say goodbye especially cause he died after 6 weeks of illness. He was bedlaying and was most of the time not able to speak. I always felt he was the only human being who really understood me that's why I never was able to get over it.
This song was played on Sydney ABC radio in celebration of Father's Day. What a beautiful song by a magnificent artist. That it hasn't been mentioned here is way beyond me. So here is one mention of it. Thanks Dad.
I just listened to this again after a while. I also lost my father and can appreciate all the beautiful comments below and support for each other with comments. How a song can bring so many together in union is amazing. I have tried playing it on the guitar for my family and I can't get through it. I was listening to NPR while working on my home after losing everything in a fire and trying make things come together. I just sat on the raw stairs and cried and it was like my father was sitting with me watching the home and kids he never got to meet. Thank you Colin for such a treasure.
I had to pull the plug on my father in June 2018, unexpectedly. The week before father's day, to be exact. We never had the best relationship until the last few years. I hope that you all can reconcile those differences and make amends before it's too late. Love to you all
My dad was 78 with bad Alzheimer's. My sister would come and take him to the mall to walk and socialise. She called me one afternoon in tears and said "Daddy's gone, we've lost him" She told me he had gone quickly and silently which actually gave me some relief as he was just that way.We were both without words for an awkward moment or two and then it hit me. I told her the escalator just past Orange Julius had a Victorias Secret up one flight on the right. They ran up the escalator and into VS and sure enough there he was, talking to a buxom redhead he'd struck up a friendship with some months before. I told her next time to keep a better eye on him.
Amazing how one person can change your life with a decision to love you! Most beautiful song I've ever heard about a father!!! Thank you for this song. Resonates so profoundly in my life right now. He passed away in 2006, my life has never been the same. Still feel so much pain. I miss my Daddy so very much. He was my best friend and most trusted confidant. Whenever I see a penny or watch a dragonfly hoover close, I can't help but smile & tell him " I see you Daddy & I love u too" cause He lives on through the love I carry in my heart! 🙏♥️
to lose someone while they are still alive, that hurts A LOT! and this songs brings me to tears!! i will send this song to my dad throw mail.. (cd) on his bday... i havent seen him for two years.. and we live in the same city.. yeah... i tried to get back in contact but he doesnt want to or i dont know what it is.. but i still love and MISS HIM.
I wish you well on your journey through your life and continue to strive for a better day. I am a father of a 23 year old woman whom I haven't seen in 12 years but I've only spoken to her on the phone a couple times a year. I miss her dearly and would love to go visit her and my three grandchildren. But, my daughter was diagnosed diagnosed and given a treatment plan for parent alienation syndrome. I do not push her to see me but still want to make a connection when we are on the phone. Maybe someday before I pass I may be able to be reunited with the most important person in my life. Some fathers love their children more than life itself.
I lost my father 1 month ago, he lost his battle against blood cancer, all I have now only memories and some pictures. love u dad wish I could meet you in your heaven.

This is a beautiful acoustic playing of a wonderful and resonating song. I saw you tonight at the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis. Great show. I'd love to be in a super small venue sometime to hear you. You create such an intimate rapport with your audience.

Dear father I've got your photographs Thank God for photographs hip hip hooray Dear father I know you loved to laugh though In most of your photographs it didn't seem that way Dear father I can't let you go just yet And I still can't forget you walking around Dear father you're starring in my dreams And you're stealing all the scenes where did you go? In my wandering mind I stumble through time I sing through the air I look for you there Dear father I never got to say goodbye I was singing on the River Clyde and I didn't know Dear father I see you dancing still And I think I always will till the day I die Dear father I feel your healing hands As I fall asleep I can plain as the day Dear father you're in my reflection now As I reach out and touch you now where did you go? Dear father I am still curious why You still make me furious it was so long ago Dear father I've got your photographs Thank God for photographs hip hip hooray
He was singing in Glasgow the night his Dad died. His Dad was born a few hundred yards from where he was performing that night. Home.

still learning from him all the time...that is some good medicine!
This is music, true music, what most people listen to today I don't consider true music. This is a sad but beautiful song.
I remember everyone telling me at the funeral that it would get easier. That was 18 years ago. I'm still waiting. I dream about him all the time. He never says anything, he's just there. But I wish he was still here.

I found this song 2 days after my dad died and it really helped me cope with his passing.
What makes this song so great is the honesty, and truth, and the love. You can see it in his face, and hear it in his voice. And anyone who has lost his or her dad, including myself, knows exactly how he feels. Beautifully done. Good on ya, Mr. Hay......

Estranged from two of my children, this song knocked the top off the scab, cried like an estranged Father
This is the most beautiful song ever, lost my father over 2 years ago and never got to say goodbye.
Those of us who had Great Fathers are truly blessed and they really never leave you as you travel thru life. Love sustains all goodness......Jazzlaro

Thank God for photographs hip hip hooray
Dear father I know you loved to laugh though
In most of your photographs it didn't seem that way
Dear father I can't let you go just yet
And I still can't forget you walking around
Dear father you're starring in my dreams
And you're stealing all the scenes where did you go?
In my wandering mind I stumble through time

And I think I always will till the day I die
Dear father I feel your healing hands
