When he does that straight voice it's hard to get used to. Sort of like Denver Pyle on Perry Mason.
Gunsmoke on MeTV - watched it all my life. Keep it coming MeTV, I love it.
I remember reading that he had made a few appearances on the show before being cast as Festus, then a couple dual roles afterwards. This was cool. Thanks for posting!
To me, Ken Curtis will always be Festus.

I can't believe the range Ken Curtis could do.
Besides being a great singer, his character in "Lover Boy" could have been a leading actor role in any Movie, if he were not so Evil.
Curtis playing a clone of himself in that other episode where he is a Maniac killer sporting the best trimmed mustache in Western Civilization.
And then he plays Reverse those types as Festus Hagen.
Never saw the episode where he played the Gay Indian with the feather on top.
Whatever the role, he convinced me as being whatever he played.
Besides Arness, he made Gunsmoke more than Dennis Weaver as Chester or Burt Reynolds as Quint.
Just found out that his Father in Law was the famed director John Ford and he played in the movie, "The Searchers ".
I just saw "Lover Boy" today. Great episode!

Curtis was the beginning of the end for the previously excellent 'Gunsmoke'-a real shame. The show didn't need a clown. All the main characters were strong-not buffoons.
