My Russian blue is attached to me like no other cat has ever been. She's really helped me with the recent loss of my dog. He use to sleep with me every night and its been hard without him. My Russian blue cat has started sleeping next to me lately though and its really helped me.

They are extremely emotionally aware of their owners. My Russian Blue will comfort me if she hears me swearing at a piece of furniture that I stub my toe on lol she's like, "oh no, mama! Are you hurt? Let me aggressively nuzzle you until you are better!!"
Sorry to hear about your loss. I'm glad your new kitty is helping you through it 💜

I have a Russian blue called Ollie and he is the most neediest cat I have ever owned! He demands my attention all the time and demands to be cuddled 😍
He’s also extremely playful, he loves to stalk and pounce at me (he doesn’t have his claws out)
He also hates me leaving the house. I work from home so I’m with him most days, but when I’m back he greets me and again, demands to be picked up and have cuddles.
So what I’m trying to say is, all cats have their own personalities, take this video with a pinch of salt!
I absolutely adore my Russian blue, he has the best little character x

Sounds just like my Tabitha. Needy to the "N"th degree. I think her need for stimulation may be misunderstood as needy, however...
My bf says when I'm not around, she is super chill and just sits in the front window until I get back. Then all of a sudden, she's purring, chatting away at me, wants to go t bed and cuddle, wants my lap, wants her belly rubbed, the whole 9. She won't acknowledge anyone else, and gets offended if anyone else tries to touch her.

I have two purebred Russian Blues. One is sleeping on my lap right now as I watch this video and am told "they are not lap cats." The other's favorite pastime is being held and carried around-since he was a kitten, he has been demanding to be picked up and immediately starts purring whenever he's held. In other words: take videos like this about cat breeds with a grain of salt! Cats all have distinct personalities that depend at least as much on their socialization and genetics as on their breed (and yes, breed is genetics, but not every family line is identical). These are amazing cats and incredibly affectionate. They can even be extroverted!

Every Russian Blue I've had was an extreme athletes. My current one is almost pure muscle according to the vet. After talking to other owners, we agree that they are also little insect murder machines. My house is blessedly bug free and she LOVES preying on large cockroaches that sneak into the house. She also plays at my windows with the squirrel that lives in the city tree behind my house, (it runs up to the window to look for her) the local humming birds (who will fly vertically up and down at the window to see if she's around) and the little geckos who crawl up on my porch. It's cute and entertaining. I can't sing the praises of my blue enough.

The first cat my husband and I got was a purebred Russian Blue. I think the most she ever weighed was 9 pounds and she was definitely an athlete. For many years she could jump from the floor to the top of a seven foot tall bookcase. Even though she only weighed 9 pounds, when she ran through the house it sounded like it was an elephant running. She never overate and was very muscular and active. She was so sweet and affectionate to us, although she did hide whenever we had visitors. Many times when I woke up in the morning she was curled up on my chest or on top of my head. And she was smart. She was very picky about her litter box. She would complain if it wasn’t clean enough. With her muscular physique, soft silver-tipped fur and striking green eyes she was so beautiful. She lived to be 17 years old. In her last year (1998) she developed kidney problems and we took her to the vet several times a week for cat “dialysis.” Eventually she experienced several small strokes and the vet suggested that it was her time. She died in my arms. I still miss her.

My RB is a lap cat, a scarf, a shadow, a comedian, a pig (I say that lovingly), my best friend and the greatest happy accident in my life! I had such an ordeal trying to adopt a cat and had no intention of getting a kitten but when the adoptions kept going awry I was intent on bringing home a cat that day and arrived one hour early before my shelter opened after the week-end with my new carrier in tote and the cat I had my heart on was gone... I was heartbroken. But around the corner in the other room was this tiny grey kitten and all I wanted at that time was someone to love, and who looked completely unlike the others who didn't work out and they let me pick her up from the kennel and bond with her in a recliner and that was it, she was the one! She let me love her. She locked eyes with me the whole time and that meant everything to me. And now she IS my everything. Forget what this video says, there is no bad. Only love. ❤️

They most certainly are lap cats! We've had two wonderful, beautiful, loving Russian Blues. They absolutely don't hate being picked up & very often asked to be picked up! Our male was never anxious of strangers, but rather very protective, staying by us & watching them like a hawk! Any cat can resort to unwanted behavior, as can any dog. My husband made our cats a scratching post putting carpet on backwards, so the rough underneath was facing out. The LOVED IT & never scratched our furniture EVER! Criminey, give them something good to use! Our cats loved our dog & each eventually each other, tho we saved them at different times. Oh, glory! We had 2 children, small when we got them. I can't apologize for truth; our two Russian Blues proved wrong most of what you said. Oh, on our laps several times a day! If we were on our laptops or computer, would come & lay on our keyboards & try to knock or take our pens out of our hands, if we were writing. They loved us dearly & our dog, too.

Mine is only a year and a half. She is my shadow, has to be in physical contact at all times, loves being held, sleeps mooshed against me, demands to be picked up, loves belly rubs, not independent at all. I dont know her history before six months old, though... she was dumped near my house and found her way to us. My other kitty is an 18 year old Maine Coon mix. The blue, Tabitha, is SCARY smart! She learns from Allison, the Maine. Allison is my nanny cat. Tabitha is definitely not an alpha. She is curious but refuses to go outside, which is fine because they're both indoor only. If she goes out, it's on a leash, in a carrier or I carry her, but she's terrified of being outdoors and can't wait to get back in. Commands? Omg yes. She understands verbal and non-verbal cues and commands, knows her name, and so much more. But she does not like other people besides me or my son (25). She ignores other people, doesn't tolerate anyone else handling her the way I handle her, not even petting. Will flop on her back with me, but no one else. I can literally hold her upside down, spout over kettle, and she's perfectly content. She has a few hilarious quirks - if she thinks she's being ignored, she'll launch at me and attach herself to my back or hip; she does the prairie dog stance; she stands up on her back legs and stretches tall as she can get so I'll pick her up. Honestly, she has all the best qualities of every cat I've ever had. I had no intention of getting another cat. She had other plans.

    • @naomibargmeyer6075
      @naomibargmeyer6075 ปีที่แล้ว

At first, I thought her behavior was just because I'm an empath and have a "way" with all animals - wild or domesticated, bugs, plants, kids, elderly and with people who have developmental challenges. I've been rescuing animals and such as long as memory serves (I remember bringing home a snapping turtle to my dad when I was little because I thought it was lost). I've been a caregiver professionally for adults and children with special needs, and been a birth doula, childbirth educator, worked in the medical field, and even got my daughter unconventionally when she was a teenager... thats another story.
Tabitha decided immediately I was her person.

My Russian Blue ("Natasha") would follow me everywhere. If I took a bath she would sit on the sink and watch me. If I put my head underwater and made a "bubbling" sound she would meow hysterically thinking I was drowning. If there was a thunderstorm outside I could expect her to jump on my bed and get under the blanket and grab my leg for security. Also I’ve heard the breed “gloms” onto one person and I got mine as a kitten during the pandemic so he was only around me when he was developing. This resulted in him only really wanting to be with and be friendly and cuddly only with me, should have named him drake, he only loves his bed and his momma he’s sorry!

I'd say most of this is accurate in regards to the one I used to have. Though he did like to sit in my lap a lot...when he wanted to, which was frequent, but not on a needy level. Ollie also didn't mind our first cat, though she hated him at first. He was a quarter her size and not at all afraid of her. We thought she might kill him (she hated ALL other cats). But he calmly greeted her. And when she bowed up, hissed, howled and took a swing...his tiny ass punched her in the face. She hid under the bed for two weeks. They eventually became friends. Ollie was aggressive when he played (he thought hands were toys) and he'd kill squirrels as big as he was. He was a little con man and a rock star and thought he was invincible. It eventually got him killed at three years of age when he thought he could out run a car.

Mine is the most affectionate cat I have ever had. Also, gets along great with my other cats. He’s my alarm clock too. Definitely wakes food driven. Wakes me up at 7:00 every morning by gently tapping me on the face so I can feed him.

My Russian Blue is usually always super ok with being picked up, but I've somewhat gotten him used it since I pick him up and set him places he might want to go, or show him interesting things while carrying him. He is also really good with petting/touch anywhere on him, the only place he's iffy about is his back nails when I'm trimming them (though he still lets me). The only thing he really doesn't like is small or loud "strangers", tin foil, and being held for too long while I clean stuff off of him (even then he has never EVER once hissed or scratched me or anyone on purpose, he only meows to let me know he's uncomfortable). Gotta say...we got super lucky with such a chill little guy, and he's so cute to boot.

I have a Russian blue called Mell and he’s almost six months old!
This cat was perfect since we wanted an independent cat but also a nice one. And well, mell is the sweetest.
He loves to play with us and run around the house, and he loves to go sit on my legs when I’m laying on my bed watching videos or making some.
He also loves to explore and is very curious. And he doesn’t hate getting picked up, weirdly, he usually likes it and likes to play with our hair.
But also, he is not a cat with any stuff that cause allergies. I know because one time a very allergic person showed up and didnt have any symptoms.
Our cat is also very kind to strangers and newcomers, and curious about them. But he also hates changes.
He honestly is a very wonderful cat. I love him so much. And weirdly he’s so respectful and not the ‘bossy’ cat we all picture.

While this is all pretty much true on the topics you discussed, it’s not really the breed that dictates whether ‘’Russian blue’s aren’t lap cats’’ or, ‘’Russian Blue’s don’t like being held’’, that’s the personality of the cat. For example, i have a russian blue, and if you start as a kitten holding it a lot, when it’s older, it won’t be bothered by it.

I have 1 black cat and 3 Russian Blues. All were rescues. My Russian Blues are triplet sisters and we actually found homes for all 3 because we already had 8 or 9 cats but the three of them were always together and so I chose not to adopt them out because I wanted them to stay together. Ash is my fat Russian Blue but she is very very smart. Her treats were in a container where the top popped off and she figured out how to do it so I switched to a top that screws on. She can’t do that one yet. Phoenix looks like a model and will stand with one paw in front of the other. Smokey has learned to be impatient like Ash.

Not a lot of this is true, I got a 4 months old Russian blue a week ago and they cannot live without you, right now I’m not sleeping with him because I’m sick and we close him in a room (yes he has everything he needs) but when I do sleep with him he wakes me up at 8-9 am.. during the day sometimes he likes to get picked up. He likes to climb curtains to get my attention but we got him a cat tree and he seems to sleep all day and not doing it as often as he used to. But either way he is very nice and he likes to sleep next to me, he doesn’t bite or scratch me on purpose as he is young and he loves his owner.

Bella Lugosi is my RB. When she is in a devious mood her pupils glow red also when she is pissed at me. Bella will be 1 year old in August and constantly amazes me how super intelligent she is. She has a huge vocabulary and is very sassy in her responses. She shows her fangs at strangers but doesn’t hide just glares. She rules the house including to large dogs and an elderly tortoise. Her zoomies are a hoot to watch. She is the perfect fit in my furry baby home.

My russian blue is part tabby, so he is very good with the kids. He is the most mellow animal I have ever met. The kids carry him around like a sack of potatoes. He eats everything he can find, and is so high energy he has to sleep locked up at night so he doesn't keep us up all night being obnoxious. He is in his second year, so we hope he calms down soon. He also does great with other pets. He loves to play and chase the dogs' leashes. He also is very cuddly, and will cuddle if give the chance.

My cat is a Russian Blue most things you said are true with the exception of the cats cuddliness, that's a horrible misconceptions. My cat is very affectionate, extremely cuddly and gentle, he sleeps next to me, and he's quite the lap cat. He's very smart yet territorial when it comes to other animals, he loves my son who was raised with him from the beginning, he dislikes loud fast moving male humans, and people who are under the influence of any drugs as well as abnormal behaviors. He knows a few tricks, his name, he loves food, and he's very friendly towards his family. He will not allow a stranger to touch him unless I'm there and I say it's ok. He's not moody or aggressive, he's just very chill. He's a registered therapy cat, he has brought me lots of peace, and love.
