Joseph Cherabie, MD, MSc discusses gonorrhea - the second highest reported bacterial sexually transmitted infection in the US. He reviews the epidemiology, microbiology, pathogenesis, and manifestations of gonorrhea. He discusses the importance of extragenital site testing and the impact of gonorrhea antimicrobial resistance before reviewing key treatment and screening recommendations in the CDC 2021 STI Treatment Guidelines.
Dr. Cherabie is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis Division of Infectious Diseases and Medical Director, St. Louis STI/HIV Prevention Training Center.
