“I found him a loyal friend and good company. He was a dentist whom necessity had made a gambler; a gentleman whom disease had made a vagabond; a philosopher whom life had made a caustic wit; a long, lean blonde fellow nearly dead with consumption and at the same time the most skillful gambler and nerviest, speediest, deadliest man with a six-gun I ever knew.”

This scene always makes me tear up :( I remember back when I was hanging out with my rowdy buddies my father told me they weren't my friends and said you'll be lucky in life to find one real friend, someone that would be there for you no matter what. And I remember watching my father visit his friend who was dying from MS you couldn't understand a word he was mumbling but somehow my father knew what he was trying to tell him, I'll never forget that.

Right before this scene started, Father Feeney gave a head shake to Wyatt indicating that Doc was close to death. This was after Wyatt came in as Fr. Feeney was administering the last rites to Doc. Doc's behavior towards Wyatt can be explained in this way: (1) He has made his peace with God; (2) He no longer wants to play cards as it reminds him of the gambler's life that he has left behind; (3) He releases Wyatt from any further obligation of friendship to him because the end is near, leaving Wyatt to pursue Josephine which Doc has expressly encouraged. I guess that's what friends are for.

Earp a middle lower classed man from Kansas who. really just had dreams of becoming rich, and wanted to be loved, to me, Earp and Holliday were like total polar opposites, but they had one of the most interesting "bro mances " of all times, right up there with Lennon/ Mcaertney

It makes it seem like he was a 30 year old lusting after a 15 year old BUT She was actually older then Doc. Martha Ann Holliday (aka as Sister Mary Melanie) was born 12/14/1850 and Doc was 08/14/1851.
      So they were both 15.

Doc died alone in hotel room covered in sores. He andvEarp.stopped speaking because Wyatt heard Doc making bad jokes about Josie being Jewish. It's true sorry. Earp learned Doc had died reading about it in Denver paper 😮

A late answer but he said “she joined a convent over the affair.”
His cousin, Martha Ann was 15 and Doc was 14 when they fell in love. She was Catholic and marriage between First Cousins is prohibited by the Catholic Church. She joined the Sisters of Charity and became known as Sister Mary Melanie.
They did keep up a correspondence for the rest of his life. After his death their letters to each other were found in his personal effects. A notice in the Colorado Springs newspaper after his death stated that all of his personal effects would be sent to Sister Melanie.
