Indeed he is one of the greats. It always amazes me just how well these early discs were recorded and how much "information" they have in their grooves. Thank you for your kind comments.
Plancon is a singer who belongs to the Golden Age of Opera before the age of Caruso, Galli-Curci, Ponselle, Ruffo, and Chaliapin. It was the age of Patti, Battistini, J. de Reszke, and Schumann-Heink. That in itself does not mean the singing was better, only different with regard to style, phrasing, and technique. Each of these artists (in both eras) was unique in their own way and we should be overjoyed that most of them left us at least some indication of their prowess.
A wonderful recording of Plançon, superbly reproduced by the EMG.
I quite agree. Very many thanks.
Beautiful for the season that is in it. Blessings at Christmas to all here.
Indeed and very many thanks.
Lovely singing from the great French bass! Wonderful on the EMG - many thanks for sharing!
My very great pleasure. Many thanks.
One of the greats from a lost era. Also a remarkably clear recording. Some say the acoustic method didn’t catch the voice well. Proven wrong here!
