If you think about it, the no-buy year saved you from lifestyle inflation after getting a better job, which allowed you to put the additional income into savings! A lot of people just end up spending the extra money they're earning, so that's still a big win
So true, that's why for some people there's never enough money to save, they get used to the raises and spend the extra money most of the time mindlessly.
"It feels really empowering to not need to buy new things to feel fulfilled and happy", I could't agree more with this statement! Such an inspiration! Thank you so much!
I admire your dedication to sticking to something like this! I don't have confidence in my ability to stick to a no/low buy year, but since I've started watching your videos I've started doing no-buy weeks, and even one or two weeks a month with no "fun" spending makes a positive impact on the amount of money I have left at the end of the pay cycle, and lets me pay off my car note faster
For some people is the money, for others the clutter, for me it was both. I failed in the food delivery category 😅. Oh well, next year I'll do better in that category.
Congrats to those that can do this but it would be too overwhelming for me. Particularly a year. I need little rewards or breaks toward something and as long as I have that I should be ok but those things cost a little money so could do low buy but no buy not realistic for me.
Hi, Grace! Your initial video of no buy year really inspired me and I started no buy at the beginning of this year as well. I definitely had some slip-ups here and there, but it really changed my relationship with consumerism. I used to spend money mindlessly, but now, I'm able to differentiate wants and needs, and I became more and more grateful with the things I already have. Also, the no buy discord community is really helpful as well, so thank you for starting this challenge and inspiring others to do the same!
Hey Grace! I commented on one of your videos either June or July stating I would be starting with a 6-month no buy challenge and joining you in efforts to control my spending addiction, pay off my debt, and start saving towards my goal (as well as being more minimal and intentional) I’m coming back here early in December to let you know thank you so much for the inspiration and that I have paid off ALL my debt which I didn’t think I would be able to do before the year was over as well as starting some savings!!! A weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I feel so much more in control! I will be continuing a no buy/low buy through next year! thank you!!!
your initial no buy video inspired me so much!! and since I decided to start right away after watching it, I've actually just finished my low buy year. yesterday was my last day?! it's been a life-changing year, thanks so much for everything
Your videos are inspiring me to try again! I had a major life-threatening diagnosis mid-year and the depression around that made my shopping and conveniences consumption go WAY up. I’m going to be okay and be healthy again by next summer but I am ashamed that I am entering 2025 with more credit card debt than I had when I started the year. I’ll be back at work in 2025 and while I still have to have a major surgery and some other treatment, I will be through the worst of it. I am hopeful I can tackle it this coming year while still enjoying my life.
2025 will be the budgeting year, I no longer feel the urge to buy things but I failed in the food delivery category, I've been spending a lot of money on it since September. Also I'm writing down the events I want to go next year so I can plan ahead. Project pan is something I want to continue, this time recording the used up products. This month I recording all my spending of the year to acquire the habit to do it at least on weekly basis.
I am an art and craft supply junkie. I think for 2025 i will do a craft supply no-buy, i need to use what i have. Also might do a no-book buy since i pretty much only buy books i have already read from the library to add to my personal collection and dont *need* to add. You have given me some things to think about.
so happy to have been on this journey with you this year! It genuinely has changed my life and I have a long list of shopping habits to implement next year once the no buy is over to keep me off the hamster wheel of overconsuming. I have so much more contentment over the things i have, and in a way I can really like become at peace with my overconsuming past self as I use the things she once bought out of fear and impulse.
Your no buy videos always come when I need them the most! I am really feeling the pressure with black friday coming up (although apparently we've entered the stage of capitalism where we're calling it black friday week so everything is already on sale???), fighting the scarcity mindset / existential dread of how much worse and more expensive things could get over the next 4 yrs, and I am really trying not to take advantage of the sales to buy at least a yr's worth of skincare/body care/home products just to have on hand since they are things I know I'm going to continuously repurchase anyway. The even stronger urge I'm fighting is everything I've managed to talk myself out of purchasing this entire year is suddenly on sale and I'm thinking "well what if I need this in 2 yrs and can't afford it then? Might as well buy it now" ALSO fighting the urge to purchase everything with one direction/ Liam Payne's face on it to cope with how I've been feeling for the past month but that's an even more upsetting conversation Finding your channel has been one of the biggest highlights of my 2024. You've always provided me with such a sense of comfort and ease every time you've posted and it's been really wonderful to see you make such a positive change in your life and your future. Proud of you for never giving up on the challenge even when it got overwhelming!
This video has made me realise how far we’ve come in a year. I remember find your videos a year ago watching you prep for the no buy year, really gave me a boost, hope and make my own plan. I fell off the no buy wagon in March but managed to maintain my plan to pay off debts, which has been amazing! I am almost debt free (unfortunately my car has needed repairs this year so not quite there yet) Thank you again for this Grace, I will alway be grateful to you for helping me get into the mindset to do this. I look forward to completely clearing my debt, saving and enjoying more of your videos too! 💜
Been with you since the beginning of the year. Good job! Little did I know when I started in January how different my life would be by summer. As I was already trying to seriously curb my spending, when my income dropped by 50% I didn’t have to start thinking about stopping spending then, it was already in place. I have managed to accrue some extra savings for when the property tax bill comes. It hasn’t been easy but I still have ambitions to do better. Happy I found you!
I’m tired of being a consumer so I started my no buy year as well as boycotting certain businesses and brands. I looked around my house and have everything I need..I will only pay my few bills, pay down my one credit card , gas and food. I’m actually excited for the challenge! 😊Thanks for your videos! ❤
your original video inspired me to do the same this year! I've been reviewing all of my "miscellaneous" spending from 2023 and comparing it to 2024 and it's not only crazy how much money I saved but how little times I've felt buyer's remorse this year. still trying to figure out what my goals are for next year, so this came at the perfect time 😄
This year has been hard but by doing a low buy year the challenges seemed easier to hand. Thank you so much for inspiring me to take a hard look at my spending life and make some changes. My plan is to do another low buy year for 2025 and push myself harder to not buy unless it's on my green light list. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. ❤❤❤❤
Hiii, I saw your first video on the no buy and followed up into this one to see the impact it had on you and honestly it’s nice to see I’m not the only going through this and that wants to change her financial situation. I’ve always struggled to save money, to budget, I even have a credit card debt of $1.5k and I know that may not be much but it’s something I want to pay off! At the end of the year I’m moving to NY to start a new chapter in my life and seeing this video and knowing you live in NY will be great! I want to start 2025 holding myself accountable of my spending and be more mindful of what I buy and where I put my money into. And of course I want to pay off my debt! Thank you for inspiring and giving me hope that I can do this. 2025 will be the year I reclaim myself financially and set myself up for achieving my goal. Following along your journey!
Wow, huge props to you for completing something like this! Feels like just a month ago I was watching your video about kicking off the no buy year!! I only tuned in to a few of the update videos, but just a few questions out of curiosity (not sure if you're planning on doing a Q&A video): 1. You mentioned there were a handful of exceptions that you allowed yourself that you never used, curious what they were? 2. Were there any big-ish (or not big) purchases you debated getting and then ended up regretting? Or any that you debated on and then were like "I didn't need to debate that much"? Just curious about your decision making process in the yellow light zone throughout the year!
I wasn't doing a no-buy I tried my best at low-buy intending to buy as little as possible. You inspired me a lot and I have to say that even with minor slip ups I'm proud of myself and super proud of you ! I was talking about this with my friend yesterday and realised I can count each and every single non-essential item I have bought this year. And if I count books as one item and craft materials as one (latter hard to count when they come in bundles and both being from the thrift store except for two books that were predetermined and ok) I'm pretty sure I got under 20 purchases this year. I couldn't have said that last year. I had a major surgery this year and have been unemployed for multiple months in between work so I really needed to be strict and even with my situation managed to get some money on my savings. Thanks to both of us, your influence and motivation and my hard work, I can say that. So thank you 🤍
One of my new year's resolutions is to do a no buy month. I think low/no buy will be my normal eventually but I need a few years to save money and pay back some debt. I love everything about the lifestyle though and have been doing it for a while so this is a natural next step for me. Thank you for the inspiration ❤

Congratulations on getting out of credit card debt! I got out of credit card debt back in 2006 and have only been charged interest once since then. I didn't realize I had a subscription charge and I was living abroad and missed the bill. (This was back when online bills and banking weren't really a thing.)

I use adobe premier, but it's got a bit of a learning curve!! imovie is great to start out with if you have an apple computer! barely any learning curve.
Im on a low buy year, started in August and already paid off my VISA and 3 other small debts and saved 2000€. Next year I want to save up my emergency fund up till 10 000€ if God is with me on that 🙌🙏🌹
Do you feel that you need to be big on instagram to be big on yt? I noticed you don’t post to IG a lot (which is awesome) … maybe you could make a video about your journey and why you started making videos?
I am considering a no buy year 2025. It would be no for new makeup, skincare (except refills), clothes (except underwear because I am running out of decent underwear).
I started a few months ago to stop buying things, Whenever I feel I want to buy something like a purse, make up etc, instead of buying it, I will put the money on my piggy bank.. If I have the money to buy it, I can also save it. 😂 Ps. please excuse my bad english,I come to this videos to learn as Well
I remember watching your first videos about a no buy year last year, and whilst I haven’t stuck to a strict no buy year, I’ve had some no buy weeks or months, and my mindset towards consumerism has changed a lot. A year later and my partner and I have now bought a house, and watching your videos was definitely an integral part in helping me save money, and also now that I am paying bills to help me not spend all my pay check and keep on top of saving. Thank you Grace 🫶🏻
i remember watching your videos at the start of this year and omg i’m so proud of you for sticking with it. i bet there’s been so much pressure with the internet watching, but you’ve helped so many people! i think i remember you saying that last year you tried to do a low buy but your rules were too lenient and you ended up spending quite a bit anyway? that’s been me this year haha. but i’ve learned so much in the process, and i’m wondering if that failed low buy year is a mandatory, necessarily evil to give you the tools to do a real low/no buy the year after. i’m hoping so! 🩷

It would be no for new makeup, skincare (except refills), clothes (except underwear because I am running out of decent underwear).
that's a great plan!
I started a few months ago to stop buying things, Whenever I feel I want to buy something like a purse, make up etc, instead of buying it, I will put the money on my piggy bank.. If I have the money to buy it, I can also save it. 😂
Ps. please excuse my bad english,I come to this videos to learn as Well
Most poor people must be minimalists then cause most are doing no buy just not out of want

So proud of you 🫂 ❤ I will try and do better next year 😅 But you give me hope 😊
I remember watching your first videos about a no buy year last year, and whilst I haven’t stuck to a strict no buy year, I’ve had some no buy weeks or months, and my mindset towards consumerism has changed a lot. A year later and my partner and I have now bought a house, and watching your videos was definitely an integral part in helping me save money, and also now that I am paying bills to help me not spend all my pay check and keep on top of saving. Thank you Grace 🫶🏻
this is amazing !!! congrats!!
i remember watching your videos at the start of this year and omg i’m so proud of you for sticking with it. i bet there’s been so much pressure with the internet watching, but you’ve helped so many people! i think i remember you saying that last year you tried to do a low buy but your rules were too lenient and you ended up spending quite a bit anyway? that’s been me this year haha. but i’ve learned so much in the process, and i’m wondering if that failed low buy year is a mandatory, necessarily evil to give you the tools to do a real low/no buy the year after. i’m hoping so! 🩷
it's definitely a learning experience!! each year it will get easier and easier 💗
