Hats off to Eddie. People do things without getting paid or recognition, they do it for the satisfaction. Eddie did it for his love of music.
Best part of the record, it makes the record.
Eddie broke the SMPTE code of the tape., They had to rescue the recording.
Taylor Swift could never 😂
Yeah man, they do it for the love of it.
“some Black kid?” Changes my view of Eddie the human. 😢
“Well I didnt ask for anything” is one of the single best and most bad ass things for a rock legend to say. He doesnt care about the money, doesnt care about the recognition of it. Man justw anted to jam and fix up a song just because he could. And thats why hes one of the goats.
And he absolutely KILLED IT!!!
Salute 2 Eddie Van Halen 4 making Beat it one of the most iconic songs ever bcuz of his solo on that song .
I wasn’t a fan of his until I heard him on Beat It but after that my friend had bought 1984 and saw the video 4 Jump, David Lee Roth was just a showman along with Eddie Van Halen killing the guitar 🎸 solo. Loved Van Halen ever since .
RIP to a legend

I feel bad for those who never saw Eddie live.
That's all it was! 🎶
yeah I sure miss him too and never got to see Van Halen perform live because I was always performing myself, however as some of us I was lucky enough to see enough live footages as well as owning some of their CDs to realize that I sure missed out. anyway Eddie was definitely spot on when he said that no one was supposed to do outside projects out of the band and from what I read it really pissed David Lee Roth off when he got back from I guess it was an African safari or something because it only took probably about 3 seconds for him to realize that it was Eddie playing so I'm pretty sure that Dave was pissed off but too bad, that was so cool of Eddie to do. rip my brother
@@jackenglish1041 well said Jack!! I actually had the opportunity to see them on the reunion tour what an experience and starry eyed just in awe watching him play. And switching back and forth watching Alex such an underrated drummer dude rocks the kit.
Thanks for the reply and yes being a professional drummer still myself I will say that Alex is amazing and I'm sure still is and I know the loss of his brother really hurt him terribly so I'm not sure if he will ever come back out and play drums but I do pray and hope that he will. “Who’s gonna know if I play on this black kids record?!”
It’s crazy to think that there was a time Michael wasn’t the biggest thing in the world. Especially considering that Off The Wall won a Grammy already.
Yes but the world Eddie existed in at the time was guitar based rock and metal with a mostly white audience. There was no comparison between the scale of success between Off the Wall and Thriller. Thriller is literally the biggest album in history of any genre.
“Who’s gonna know if I play on this black kids record?!” thats cute especially coming from Eddie; a Filipino/Indonesian dude. Disgusting attitude.

A great artist and a great guitarist make a great song lol shut up it's not no genius work it's just great music
He was a band leader. The ultimate producer. Quincy had the shit. If he calls you answer
Fun fact: Eddie re-arranging the song created a nightmare technical scenario that was almost a total disaster. Steve Lukather has told the story a few times, but essentially, they were using multiple tapes synchronized together to get more tracks and to preserve quality (because the more you play a tape the more it degrades, so its better to work with copies) - to sync them, you recorded a sync tone on the last track of each tape. When Eddie chopped up the song for his solo, he destroyed the sync track of that tape, which had Michaels original vocal, and now Ed’s guitar solo. Quincy Jones wanted those first-generation tracks preserved, everything else be damned, but they would no longer sync up to the rest of the music. So Jeff Porcaro and Steve Lukather had to re-record the music, the only guide being Michael’s vocal track where the original music could barely be heard spilling out of his headphones; Jeff used that to make a click track with drumsticks and they re-built the entire song under the vocals and guitar solo.
They could do that because both are absolute beasts!
I wish I understood what all that meant😂
They could have just rerecorded those free chords.
Too much time wasted on copying and syncing when it would've been better to rerecord it ASAP
Back in the day when analog technology was superior because you could overlay in so many ways but if you forgot to make a copy... You were screwed
I read it and enjoyed the story....
