Hats off to Eddie. People do things without getting paid or recognition, they do it for the satisfaction. Eddie did it for his love of music.

“Well I didnt ask for anything” is one of the single best and most bad ass things for a rock legend to say. He doesnt care about the money, doesnt care about the recognition of it. Man justw anted to jam and fix up a song just because he could. And thats why hes one of the goats.

Salute 2 Eddie Van Halen 4 making Beat it one of the most iconic songs ever bcuz of his solo on that song .
I wasn’t a fan of his until I heard him on Beat It but after that my friend had bought 1984 and saw the video 4 Jump, David Lee Roth was just a showman along with Eddie Van Halen killing the guitar 🎸 solo. Loved Van Halen ever since .
      RIP to a legend

yeah I sure miss him too and never got to see Van Halen perform live because I was always performing myself, however as some of us I was lucky enough to see enough live footages as well as owning some of their CDs to realize that I sure missed out. anyway Eddie was definitely spot on when he said that no one was supposed to do outside projects out of the band and from what I read it really pissed David Lee Roth off when he got back from I guess it was an African safari or something because it only took probably about 3 seconds for him to realize that it was Eddie playing so I'm pretty sure that Dave was pissed off but too bad, that was so cool of Eddie to do. rip my brother

Fun fact: Eddie re-arranging the song created a nightmare technical scenario that was almost a total disaster. Steve Lukather has told the story a few times, but essentially, they were using multiple tapes synchronized together to get more tracks and to preserve quality (because the more you play a tape the more it degrades, so its better to work with copies) - to sync them, you recorded a sync tone on the last track of each tape. When Eddie chopped up the song for his solo, he destroyed the sync track of that tape, which had Michaels original vocal, and now Ed’s guitar solo. Quincy Jones wanted those first-generation tracks preserved, everything else be damned, but they would no longer sync up to the rest of the music. So Jeff Porcaro and Steve Lukather had to re-record the music, the only guide being Michael’s vocal track where the original music could barely be heard spilling out of his headphones; Jeff used that to make a click track with drumsticks and they re-built the entire song under the vocals and guitar solo.

The other part of the story is when making changes Eddie also messed up the master tapes that had previous recordings on them. Check out the interview with Steve Lukather on the topic and how it was fixed.

Agreed: Spoken about & played in a recent Rick Beato 2 interview on the subject. The entire interview (a great watch) is on Rick Beato's main page. His millions of subs. are well deserved.

Just love the respect shown for other people. 20 minutes out of my life and Quincy called me up… the world needs more of this. Less “how does this benefit me” and more “how can I help.”

Interesting fact - They first asked Pete Townshend to do the guitar work on the song. The Who were touring or something and Pete recommended Eddie to Quincy Jones. The rest is history.

@@tintshady2049 no it isn’t fckn trust me. Google Pete Townshends interview by Rolling Stone after Eddies death. He’s the one who says it. Why would I make it up. And who gives a shit if you believe it or not. Look it up or don’t.

@@itsthelittlethings100 I have no idea. Not sure why you wouldn’t think of Pete and guitar. He’s a great guitarist and songwriter and performer and the Who is one of the greatest bands of all time.
Townshend says it himself in an interview after Eddie passed. Rolling Stone I believe.
