    February 10th marks the anniversary of No2 Commando/II SAS X-Troop 1st Combat jump in 1941 , they wore the first smock with step in legs , Granddad wore it that day

    You can see the influence this pattern had on DPM, French lizard pattern and Zimbabwean brush stroke.

    Why half zip hard to remove smock and if wounded to dress wound

    Looks like it influenced Belgian '60's camo design

    Great vid as usual, one small point the crotch strap when secured is (like the side tightener tabs) mean't to secure the smock as close as possible to the body & stop it riding up when humping & bumping the parachute harness into position when donning it, not to stop it riding up during a descent as the harness etc will do that anyway. Cheers Simon.

    Nice one, you made me pull out my one made by George Davis of Manchester but I can't make out the date on mine and I think mine's one size larger as I can make out the 6ft. Also mine has Newey nickle press buttons and the tag is on the viewers left lower pocket.

    A question prompted by this and other videos re the Denison smock and the “tail”, from memory in the 60s 70s and perhaps 80s, British Army combat jackets all (?) had tails but perhaps don’t anymore?

    Hi Simon I can't see why you believe the number indicates RM and not army. RM numbers would typically start with P.

    • @seanr2968
      @seanr2968 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed - I'm no expert but that looks like an army number to me. Having said that, my number started 2474... from joining in 1985, so the 23... numbers (like on this smock) would not have around until long after when this smock was issued. Maybe the RMs changed their numbering system and Simon is right after all? Having said that, maybe it's not a personal number but something else? It looks too neat for a personal number and you'd expect a name alongside it...

    Ace. Just bought a Kay Kanvas SOF version and it matches this description. The print colours are much more khaki than this and because it's brand new - I suppose - they're far too vivid. I'm hoping they're going to fade with twenty runs through the wash. Does anyone have experience of how best to age this product?

      Wear it a lot and keep washing it. That's about all you can do. I think they're quite nice for £90

      @@vonsprague7913 My fondness for this smock knows no limits. It's my signature cloak of invincibility now.
      I scooped some sand off the beach, dumped it into a plastic dustbin, added water and agitated the smock for days.
      After rinsing and washing it in the machine, I treated it with canvas waterproofing.
      Pukka.
