Great video! Also in SD County, and I don’t think the compost you are referring to is free for me since I’m not in city boundaries. What are your thoughts on mushroom compost? There is a free resource here for that as well.
Yes, it's for city residents only. We've heard about the mushroom compost in Escondido but haven't tried it yet. It sounds like a great option, even if you're only using it for some of your mix.
The compost from San Pasqual Valley is garbage, and municipal compost is even worse. Making your own compost or vermicompost is a much better solution. Or you could buy some high quality vermicompost/ worm castings from me. Lol
Congratulations! I started gardening 9 years ago with redwood "1 by's" screwed together just like those. I learned real fast that I needed 2x2 inside those corners! Those old beds are still producing abundantly because I treat the soil like a member of the family 😊. I'm in Sacramento (still 9b?), and would love to share some thoughts if you PM me. I attended the first Water Conservation Showcase at U of SD some years ago... beautiful city!
Water Conservation "Summit" I should have said. I looked at another of your vids and now understand those are temporary bed locations for new customers.
Rule of thumb is 50 topsoil, 25 compost, 25 amendments. Since we didn't use amendments, we did 50 compost. You can add manure, worm castings or other amendments for the last 25.
Luv the guys helping out..what is that boy doing?
Great video guys! Thanks for sticking to the basics.
SoCal zone 10a (formerly known as as 9b 🤷🏻♀️)
Lol I know right so weird
You referred to other videos several times. it would be ideal if you would put a link on the screen as you mentioned them
You're asking for a lot

That compost from the greenery is garbage! I get my compost from San pasqual valley now
For real? Are you trolling?
@@eviltomthai it's not that great. Only thing good about it is that it's free. San pasqual valley soils has wayyyyyyyy better compost for cheap

Nothing cheap about this. Nor is this about soil building. This is about raised bed filling.
You're correct, starting a garden isn't cheap, but this method is the cheapest we can find. - Jeff
I appreciate that kids energy and work ethic! Makes me want to get my kids outside gardening 👍🏻
And test for persistent persticides in All compost and soil you buy.
Love this channel. I’m a Poway resident, you guys really touch base on everything about Zone 9/10 gardening.
Where is the free compost?
If you're in San Diego, Miramar Greenery
Do you sell seeds to customers?
Yes go to San Diego seed Co in your internet search browser they have great seeds
Sure do! sandiegoseedcompany.com/
I can’t take the background noise.
The kid was annoying you huh?

What ratio of compost, soil and amendments do you recommend?
