    Brian is a bit more accomplished as a strongman, but as far as absolute strength at their relative peaks Hafthor takes it. 2018/2019 Hafthor is possibly the most well rounded strongman ever, only matched by Big Z. Brian holds his strength and weight easier. I believe he's a more natural for strongman. This has led to his longevity and consistency (outside of injuries). Brian's weight doesn't fluctuate nearly as much between off-season and competition. Now for some real talk: drugs. Hafthor's dramatic size increase before competitions in later years reveals much. Brian has had more distractions due to running a variety of businesses and a close family with children, yet his weight didn't dramatically change (he in fact put great effort into losing weight, not gaining it). This tells me he didn't cycle into crazy levels of PED's that Hafthor did. Brian lived a more sustainable life I believe, and this reflects heavily on why Hafthor retired early (along with Eddie Hall). Brian is just a naturally larger man.

Look at his last performance at wsm, had he participated in the event where they hold the weight out in front at shoulder height, well he would have been the reigning champion, but he wasn’t willing to go the extra mile. This was so blatantly biased. Example, the deadlift dude gives Thor the win because he lifted a little more weight one time, which is fair, even though Brian spanked Thor nearly every time in comp. But Brian beats Thor by nearly 2 seconds on the event right before, the narrator decides that it's a draw because it was 3 to 3 in the competitions. So it seems the rules change in order to give this guy the answer he wants. Even when Brian throws up 136kg 1 handed 3 times to Thors 1, he still states that Thor was stronger Brian just had better form. You kept seeing and hearing this bias throughout. It's gross.

      I think part of that is due to basic physiology. These guys were basically maxing out their skeleton's ability to hold muscle and static strength, but for Hafthor that means being even heavier at his heaviest. Being above 450 has to be just brutal on your organs. Brian was close to that too, but when you're pushing the very limits of human physiology, 20 lbs. can make or break you. If we want to look at most consistent, then someone like Big Z beats both of them, but if Z was another 5 inches taller, he would have been heavier and probably had a shorter peak, but higher absolute strength due to the added potential bodyweight. Frankly, I'm impressed these guys are alive at all.

    The only way to compare is in the same competitions against each other. Brian won most deadlift competitions against Thor. Thor has a higher peak. Important point is that Brian never took the time to just train for single max deadlift. Brian was concerned with the sport of Strongman not doing single lifts. That being said even in an event you don't always get max performance but just enough to win or place in an event. They need to conserve energy. Using your squat comparison. Brian won by one rep. That is all he needed to win by. Could he have had one more rep or two or three. Maybe but there was not a need to try. The goal is to win the competition and there is a strategy involved.

    It’s important to consider when looking at many events, the relative positions of the competitors in the sequence. In many cases, competitors will stop at the number of reps it takes to win the event (or score enough points for the overall), not their maximum possible. If competitor A hits 6 reps, competitor B may only hit 7 to secure the win even if they could hit 12-15 with a best effort-this is especially true if B wants to perform better in a later event or not risk an injury. Except for the few who focus on single events, strongman is as much a strategic points game as it is about the strength feats themselves.

    At their peaks, thor was stronger and possibly the strongest man in modern history. The unfortunate part is he was challenged for boxing match and he started losing weight for that match and ultimately lost his strength too.

    Brian was so much more consistent for such a long period from 2010 all the way to 2017 either winning or making podium every time

      double dipping is thors way :) , thor would always find every way to cheat. I remember he also did things like get some of Brian's reps removed cause he threw a bitch fit and got the judge to remove them even though thor was always doing things like his double dipping. thor is a real piece of shit.
      They were always lax on thor cause he was in GOT and was bringing in so much money for WSM they let him slide on many things over the years.

      @@ATomRileyA Lol, how was that cheating? And by the way, Thor didn't throw a "bitch fit". It was Thor's coach who complained at WSM 2018, not Thor. Funny how you ignore that Shaw actually tried to get Thor disqualified at WSM 2012 after Thor beat him.

    100% Brian shaws the better strong man. He's got more titles/ experience hes got way better sportsmanship Brian's competed many times injured or just coming off an injury, but then again just about evey true strongman can say the same. But Brian's been very consistent over his long career. Now with that said Thor is definitely up there in the all time greats he was insanely strong and very well rounded..

      I noticed we're both in favor of Hafthor but even you have to admit Benni Magnusson 2011 strength was different gorilla 🦍 like that even Eddie and Thor still couldn't achieve he was shorter weight less but still was levels above them

      @@theedemolitionman2159 I agree specially for 2011 he was unreally brute strong However I believe if Hafthor and Eddie trained their 'grip', they are also 440/450 material and Hafthor perhaps could have broken the Raw WR in my opinion. Unfortunately he retired even before reaching his peak. 😕

      @Nirsterkur 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@theedemolitionman2159 That's why Hafthor also shows so much of respect to Benny. I believe some of his earliest motivation for the Equipped WR came on the 500 day when Benny failed and Eddie succeeded. He said somewhere in the middle that this one will be for Benny. 🙂 Another Icelander whom I like to this day is Stefan Solvi Peteursson who qualified to WSM when he was 22, and placed 4th in 2010 aged 24 ahead of the likes of Travis Ortmayer, Nick Best, Ervin Katona, Terry Hollands & Derek Poundstone.
