This will provide longer life and more stable performance even without dram. Even though this is low budget ssd, It is great ssd from great company who provides useful tool for their products.
A year late to the party here but PSA. I bought a second BX500 in addition to the one I currently own. Got the exact same results as you 404Mb read speeds and 300ish write. Turned out my SATA cables needed swapping about and then I got the full 550Mb write and read speeds. If you pick up one of these drives, check your SATA setup because it can affect your speeds.
Love this drive, I have two 1TB models in my system, and they are fantastic. Love the speed, love the look. Great choice considering that and the price.
Good drive I got the 120GB for £18.99 to replace my 80GB Samsung Spinpoint which has lasted me since 2007 and still works fine I just need more capacity on my boot drive now. Note that with Momentum Cache you ideally need a good battery source or UPS for backup. I got this mainly to improve my boot up and I needed a little extra space with all the Win10 updates. Overall a massive improvement to system boot times. Installation was very easy... I just unplugged my SATA DVDRW and plugged this in, cloned my drive using the Acronis Crucial software, took my old drive out then put this new drive in its place and reconnected up the DVDRW as before. Time for all the work just over an hour.
I work at a computer repair shop and we get a ton of SSD upgrade orders so at any one time we will have roughly 4-8 drives of each common capacity. In my experience with 120GB drives even with drives using DRAM cache, a good performing drive will hover around 300-400 MB/s an OK performing drive will hover between 250-350 MB/s. I really don't think you got a lemon I think you got an average or even good performing drive because having a low capacity like a 120GB will hamper performance by about 15-30%.
You have the 120gb version all the other tests you shown are on the 240gb version so it will be faster Also try filling it to 70-90% full or test it empty you likely see very different results (as page table is on the NAND, the more data saved the longer it takes to access it as page table gets bigger the more data it has stored, writes are more impacted then reads as it has to update the page table right away)
yeah it does seem to be that the 120GB unit i got was a bit of a dud as there are a number of other reviews online that also show much better performance than this 120gb unit
@@CPUmodder did you try the test when it was empty after a secure erase as these dramless ssds don't take much to slow down when they have data on them (I can't find any reviews on the bx500 120gb version only 240gb or higher) I just expect slower speeds but curical do say it can do above 400mb/s read write Also or takes more then 10 minuets to empty the SLC cache to TLC if it's been filled up (when write speeds drop to 80mb/s it's writing directly to TLC) so if you do a test when it's slc cache is been used it may give you slower results (it should be waiting for the ssd to be idle before it starts to empty the SLC cache)
