    Would love to see a full back to back comparison of SPD vs Crank Bros vs HT vs Time ATAC and how they compare to each other. I've only ever tried CBs and found that they were hard to get out of even with the easy release cleats, but had great feel when clipped in. I've heard HTs have the tightest tension when cranked up and certain DH and enduro racers use them for that reason (Aaron Gwin and Isabeau Coudurier both use HT).

      Thanks for the suggestion. You are correct in that the HT's offer insane retention. Why a lot of BMXers use them too. But we appreciate the suggestion on a comparison review.

      I actually went to CB because they were the easiest to get in/out of. Either you needed a shim under the cleat or your comfort/expectations just aren't good for clips - which is fine. Plenty of people rip on flats!

      Time Atac is the way to go for me since many years. They always and always work, plus they provide nice float and shed mud really well. Even after walking through sticky mud they just clip in no problem

    These are really nice pedals and similar to Time but Time ATAC are the best,I feel Time have the superior cleats and pedal bindings and they don't really wear out.

    Have been on these for a while now. Came from SPD's. Defiletly prefer the HT clip design over the normal SPD.

    I’ve tried the crank brothers, saints (spd), time and HT. I much prefer the HT but only after placing metal shim under the clear. Made clipping in and out easier and more intuitive than all the aforementioned. So, any issues try a shim and see how you go.

    I have the XT and HT pedals without cages on my gravels bikes, cant feel a difference clipping out. Could you have been feeling the teeth on the HT grabbing at your rubber soles? seems like that could be the case from your description.... like building tension at the same time you pulling rubber across the grip pin of the HT. Just mentioned it because I had the same feeling with my Shimano Saints (Spd with cage and pins)

    Great review. I was looking at the HT's before I got my FUNN pedals. I went FUNN due to flat on one side, SPD on other. Have you ever ridden/reviewed those for comparison.

    Tried a pair felt great except getting unclipped especially in tech situations even with the x1E went back to my Shimano!

    These look cool but I can’t say enough good things about my shimano pd me700 trail pedals. I beat the absolute crap out of them and they look like they’ve been through hell (i ride a lot of rocks and pedal strikes), and still work like new.

    • @TheLoamWolf

      They are sturdy and reliable no doubt! We've only ever broken 1 Shimano pedal.

    Been using ht for years now after many many years of shimano. Ht way better imo. Agree the x1f cleats are a water of time. What you called a weak point I think in time you will find to be a strong point. You will find you are able to ride right on the point of release when required unlike the shimano which just goes bang. Also very very few accidental uncle's which I find the shimano would do a bit too frequently for my liking

    Your pros+cons have been exactly how I've been feeling on the Crankbrothers Mallet Es vs the old SPDs I had laying around. I thought about maybe picking these HTs up, but it's hard to justify the investment on just trying out different pedals.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah there's a learning curve when changing from our trusted old favorites, but it is important to try new stuff too. See if you can sell those Mallets and pick up a set of HTs, we do like them, but would suggest using the cleats we ended up settling on.

      @@TheLoamWolf Dat click tho, that is something the mallets don't have for sure

    • @MrSupermugen
      @MrSupermugen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically no pedals offer the platform that mallets do. hence why so many pros run them... even the shimano sponsored riders...
      shimanos feel to "metal on metal" icy, hate them.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that feeling. I decided to try clips last year and bought a set of Mallet Es and found I had a hell of a time getting out of them and would rather not spend money on another set of clipless pedals to try SPD or HT or Time

    • @MrSupermugen
      @MrSupermugen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrvwbug4423 what? if you cant setup mallets to get out of easily then maybe you should stick to flats.
      Crankbrothers are easy to get out of, if you struggle use a shim under the cleet.

    They look pretty sweet! I wonder if they can match the durability of Shimano?

    Men … pedals? you need to try them all to find out what is the best, because ain’t no one better than other the best is the one you are more confident and comfortable with it.

    I'm in your thoughts on these pedals 7months on? Ive riding Shimano Spd's since the dawn of time, my issue is clipping back in on techie sections usually up hill.

      Ht pedals are ment to be harder to clip in and out usually for bmx racing

    You should try the the hope gravity pedals by far the best clips I’ve tried.

    I will say, these pedals are not for the accident prone. I have had a few crashes on these and never come out, when on crankbrothers, their system is very forgiving in a crash.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You're not wrong, they're not for everyone. I (Sean) have mine cranked all the way down to make getting out of them a bit easier. Cleat orientation and shoes also help make a difference...but there's still times i cant get out of them. Still my personal go-to pedal despite the negatives.

  • @ryanbaker313
    @ryanbaker313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The pedals feel great, the bearings/bushings however are an embarrassment. A pedal should last, simple! That's their only drawback in comparison to XTR.

    I bought a set for my ST bike and liked them enough to get another set for my long travel. I did the exact same in starting with the X1F then switched to the X1...way better. Loving these pedals so far 🤘🏻
