Well, at least you got to ride through Lassen Nat'l Park! Last September I rode from So Cal to Oregon, mostly via 395, The first 4 1/2 days were smoky from the fires, and got really bad a little bit before Susanville. Lassen was closed, but I was able to go pretty close, and stayed in the small town of Fall River Mills. It wasn't until leaving Madras, OR., that I finally escaped the smoke! So far, this year has been a bit better as far as wildfires go... Hope it stays that way.
Hello Craig. A little late on the comment but really like your videos. Very down to earth and informative. Thanks to the incentive of your trip through Northern Nevada, my wife and I took the Fat Boy out and went out to Pyramid Lake, then down to Nixon were we ran into a Burning Man Bazaar with several vendor tents and RVs. Prices on everything were out there (sorry I guess we are just too old). Went from there to Fernley and had lunch at the Fiesta Mexican Restaurant - good food and prices, then out 50 to Dayton, then to Carson City and back to Sparks. Thanks again.
I paid 4200 for my 02 80th anniversary Guzzi last summer took it this summer out west 37 days 8100 miles sweet as peach. And it's air cooled so throw the thermostat, radiator, water, pump, hoses, sensors and fan away. 2 valve per cylinder with one cam and pushrods . Do I get a standing ovation? 15 min applaud Craig! I'll sell you my bike for $25,000.00!
I feel the same way about my '03 BMW RT. I went through it completely and bought all the easily storable spare parts off ebay for cheap. I'd trust it for a long trip more than a new one. I've done a lot of test rides looking to buy a new bike. I've had 4 of those bikes act up on the test ride! Three displayed error lights. One went into limp mode and cut power. They were 3 different manufacturers. That's unsettling since they were all $20k+ new bikes I was very interested in.
I had a brand new Honda Stateline that would periodically not start. It would be dead like you un-hooked the battery then about 2-5 minutes later, it would start. The trip meters would go to zero and the clock 12:00. The dealer couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Long story short, I could never trust that bike again and got rid of it with less than 5,000 miles on it.
Thanks for sharing. Lassen and Hwy 50 look great. I hope to ride this area soon. Sorry for the bike troubles. That can be so frustrating. Hopefully it was just some bad gas. Safe travels. I look forward to the next video
Craig sorry to hear about your mechanical woes. Even without them there are always low points on a trip like this. Do remember, it's about the ride, not the kit.
This is where it becomes handy to travel with others. When your down, they can pick you up and vice verse. As you know shit will always happy, just depends on how you deal with it... rsm8
I like a simple bike. Not a fan of rider modes and electronic do dads. That being said, I'm happy with fuel injection and water cooling. I guess it's finding what you are comfortable with.
Yes, the options for luxury touring bikes have dwindled to nearly nothing. I am not a big fan of the Wing after test riding a new one in 2018, but after renting K1600s three times in Europe, I would not buy one of them either. The Wing has some serious shortcomings, but it appears that all but the small fuel capacity can be rectified with aftermarket parts (seat, luggage capacity, nav system, etc.). And the Honda dealer network is far superior to BMWs meager network.

For sure, every trip has it's ups and downs, this one a bit more than others, but we got to ride some amazing roads and see some beautiful things.
Love riding hwy 50!
Another excellent video.
The city bus tours are epic in SLC.

True, we all have up days and down days. We all have feelings of frustration. You have to deal with it and find a way forward. Thanks!

Love your videos Craig! Sorry to hear about the bike troubles. Not to rub it in but 14 years old and the Victory Vision is still ripping along! 😜
Believe me, I know. Sometimes I kick myself, but I like to try new things, even if they don't work out.
