I got rid of my ARB OME suspension

  • After 175,000k roughly, I have gotten rid of my ARB Old Man Emu suspension. Let me elaborate. I have been extremely happy with it over the past 6 years, but as I tow a large caravan, I needed a larger GCM figure. The original GVM upgrade I had in the cruiser was for 3,780kg, up from 3,300kg but unfortunately this reduced the amount I could legally tow as my GCM figure stayed at 6,800kg. This was not enough for me now and with all this talk about weights, I thought it was about time I addressed this problem. So I shopped around and Lovells Suspension are the only ones that can increase this legally. I now have 3,900kg GVM and 7,400kg GCM. Lets see how this setup goes, will it stand the test of time? I will have to let you know the answer in the future.

    Mate I love the shadow effect on your face at the beginning. It added to the story when you were talking about changing out an ARB item...hahaha. It’s amazing when things you don’t plan for happen but it makes it work. Great vid cheers. Trav.

    Wow. That's a lot of leafs outback. Tipping it'll be perfect for towing the van but rough off-road.
    Its difficult getting it spot on. Looking forward to the feedback. Thanks for sharing and enjoy beautiful Robe.

      Surprisingly not that rough off road. Great for towing. So far I have done plenty of touring including the tanami and the gibb with the van in tow and extremely impressed. Highly recommend

    Hey George, can we have a new & updated rig rundown? Being a fellow 70 series lover I’m keen to see a detailed video especially your 12v electrical system, what batteries you have & how long you can stay off grid etc.
    Thanks 👍

    Hi George How are buddy! If you lift the front any higher than your ARB 2inch lift you'll shorten the chassis more and max out the ARB drop radius bushes that suit a 2inch lift it wont be enough to stop it floating around on the road. You'll have to upgrade the radius arms to longer ones to correct it! Lovell might change the drop radius arm bushes to suit there front springes. Nylon bushes reduce flex in the radius arms, the best way is to correct the chassis length and return the diff housing angle back level per factory Cheers mate.

    • @offgrid4wd708
      @offgrid4wd708 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You added springs to the leaf pack so it will raise the body a inch or so but you've lost an inch or so of clearance under the rear leaf plates and rear shocks. You need to make note of that because that is now your new hangup point going over rocks etc! You'll need some rear high clearance spring plates to gain that ground clearance back again!!.. Remember when you dump your tyre pressure for off road you'll have even less clearance again under that new hang up point..

    • @Andrew-76
      @Andrew-76 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@offgrid4wd708 The diff housing still bolts on to the top leaf being spring under so no gain in height there but leaf pack with definitely be lower to the ground though. Great vid

      Thanks for the info buddy but this sits at exactly the same height as the Arb OME setup. It has caused me to be hung up though, nothing a little more right foot couldn’t fix lol. Hope all is well.
