And the pressing is controlled now, Liverpool can let you think a pass is available to make, but you are the target, for the press. The will block a pass from one side to let you pass the ball to the other side of the field then corner you
Lmao the reason for Barca's defeat was because barca was focused on park the bus The only time they actually attacked was in the last few mins after the 4th Legend Valverde for a reason
Great video. Intuitively I knew Liverpool were pressing less aggressively this season, but it is really helpful to have someone explain it so thoughtfully.
Crazy analysis. Fools are those who think players are tired when the front three don't "hard press". This season mainly , against the big teams we have used positional pressing and that's why the team is building on it. I can see them kill teams new year onwards if the positional press is perfected . Thanks for the video !!
Klopp's Liverpool's pressing reminds me of 1974 dutch team which reached the finals & lost to west Germany. Though Liverpool's is much more subdued than the ruthlessly chaotic dutch defense. But still the best in the current age.
In 17-18 season, by the end of the season, Liverpool always seemed exhausted at the PL games after a champions league game. In 18-19, it's a completely different story.
Like Pep Guardiola mention after the game Klopp is the best manager in the creating high counter press playing. He do it naturally and made a hard time for every team including the best team of europe. The only way to stop it is to addapt like Zidane, Sarri, Ancelotti or you just park the bus like Mourinho did and by passed their midfielder with long ball to the final third position
Klopp is a manager that forced guardiola into changing his tactics and playing somewhat less open, and man city fans were then like he can adapt when last season they were what if we lost, guardiola is true to his football mentality
It should be noted that just as the team with the ball needs CDs with good ball skills Liverpool also need particular style of attackers otherwise the press doesn't work. That's why firmino is so essential. His football brain!! Not many world class players fit into klopp's system. Football IQ isn't noticed by most fans. Jorginho is a genius who told Rudiger to push forward to expose Liverpool, Jorginho saw the tactics. Tactics need certain player IQs.
it is clear from his time at dortmund too that if teams can switch play to the opposite flank (long balls) ..that is where they can hit klopp's side hard. In the early days at lfc too..that is why the smaller teams had more success cos they play more long balls. Now, like he said towards the end, our game and tactics are more controlled and more opportunistic. We dont run around for 90 mins and we have better squad rotation options to deal with different types of pressing and passing needed to ensure the opposition does not gain any advantage. If the press was that easy to beat.. teams would have figured it out by now.. pep after years of being one of the finest tacticians, still cant find a way through klopp and opted to 'defend' at anfield recently. Point is.. it is not unbeatable.. but it is very very hard even if you practice day in and day out for weeks and months together to beat the press.. so we have a chance at the title this year ;)
After I saw the title of the video I was sure you would praise Napoli's tactics because I thought they broke our pressing really easy and maybe its the first time that I see a team cope with our pressing so good. They used lobed balls to bypass Mane/Salah press and they achieved that by having their fullbacks really wide and almost touching the line. This ofc is just my view of that game,I could be wrong cause we also didnt played really well.
Liverpool's main weakness imo is time. The season is a long period and pressing that hard every game will tire the players or get injured easily. I guess that's why klopp's team always fails at the last hurdle
The problem isn´t the intense pressing. In the end it is the depth of the squad. Currently I agree with your point that It will be hard for them in the last period of the season because of the weak substitution they have.
Very important is how the defensive line is able to stay up and keep the team in 30-40 meters The team who will do a better work on individual offside, shifting and reciprocal covering will dominate next years. Expecially with VAR presence
Good analyse for sure. In half-time we show the team video footage of the game showing them very small but important details how to exploit the opponent, sometimes this is the key. Enough information to change the game, not too much because usually you can not keep to much information at once.
Nice explanation tactical video, well said and very interesting. Will look for part 2 and 3, and can't wait your video about Barcelona tactics. Great video man.
Klopp's Dortmund & Liverpool... they intentionally lost the ball so that they can counter press you... they let you hold the ball in order to force you to make mistake over and over again until you are exhausted with the intense counter pressing... there's no Number10 or playmaker there's even no need of a creative playmaker like Coutinho... it just a wall of 5 players (Arnold-Henderson-Fabinho-Keita-Robertson) losing the ball and stealing it back over and over again swiftly pumping the ball forwards for Salah, Firmino & Mane and trying to score goals. When they get corners, free-kicks it become even more than dangerous... it is actually so frustrating to watch when you're not a Lpool fans
22 points clear and unbeaten in the league. World club champions and european champions. Football isnt that simple. Your theory has one major flaw. Liverpool keep evolving. 😉
The extreme amount of high press allows for Liverpool to maintain a constant stream of intense pressure, forcing the opposition to force the ball into a negative position, or make a mistake that can cost them possession. However, by successfully utilizing long balls and successful positioning, it is possible to punish Liverpool for their high press, and hence begin a counter attack.
Lots of things to learn from you. Hats off to your analysis. DEAR, A SUGGESTION PLEASE MAKE SOME VIDEOS FOR DIFFERENT DIFFERENT FORMATIONS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES TO KIDS AND COACHES AS YOU HAVE ANALYSIED LOTS OF MATCHES
But you forgot to mention one thing in this pressing style. It's that the 4-3-3 formation helps liverpool to press any opponent player between the lines from both the directions(multi directional press when opponents are in between Liverpool's lines). And it's something very hard to counter. But u have made a very good video. Please kindly the mention the music's name.
Another way to overcome this press would be to play a 4 man midfield. One midfielder should drop deep during the build up to give a numerical advantage. A player with exceptional stamina and ball retention and ball rotation is the best for doing that. That way even without good ball playing CBs, any team could manage Liverpool.
Chelsea might have defended but if they continued to press, they may have scored more. Look, City could not score against Liverpool. Napoli had to get a lucky goal. PSG got two by attacking harder
I think you have to distinguish pressing and marking strategies. If players try to catch the ball from the opponents who have the ball on his feet we can say it is pressing. If the players are getting closer to opponent who does not has the ball on his foot then we can say it is marking. I saw in the video that Liverpool players are doing pressing and marking together. But pressing consumes much of energy and get all the player tired. So it is not sustainable. It is possible to finish the fuel earlier than 90 min. That is a risk.
The more you pass the more you are prone to error, the more counter pressing will be effective, that's why tiki taka don't work against counter pressing. Less number of quick long passes are more effective, you need solid defence and good counter attack to defeat counter pressing.
Theres so many different aspects to his pressing game the way i see it. Against madrid in the CL final they waited till madrid got to the halfway mark before pressing, against most teams they play a high defensive line and force mistakes, then the final against Tottenham, Liverpool let them have the ball and pressed them high and forced tot to play long.... Im no expert but i see different ways that Klopp plays the press.
just a thought, won't 3-2-2-3 be used against liverpool. the 3 forwards pressing the 3 backs and 2 dm means they can pass the long ball to 2 far end mids lm or rm since robertson is in the middle.and then 3 attacking options.
