To answer your question--my story may not be as great as our sports icons but growing up in the Philippines knowing about them made me a proud Filipino. When I migrated to the US, I went through many discriminations, but I never doubted my ability to rise above without selling out and sacrificing who I am and my beliefs. So, here's to the many Filipinos all over the world who never back down to all forms of challenges, oppressions even, knowing that we all stand on the shoulders of those who came before us in all fields who came out winning. I hope these kids get the recognition they deserve since they also bagged gold in SEA Games for the Philippines, too despite the taunts and insults from the opposing team.
