They do not. Nor do any of the decision makers here. That’s pretty much foundational to the problem. The people of Palestine have been denied agency at every step of the way.
A recent poll found that only a third of Palestinians support a two state solution. ( from the Palestinian Research Center ) Roughly equal to the percent who want a one state solution with Palestinians in charge and Jews as lesser citizens. A smaller percentage would be okay with a one state solution where everyone had equal rights. ( this would reduce Jews to a minority with little control of government ) So if these are at all accurate, a large percentage of the Palestinian population are delusional about possible solutions. So if a new Palestinian Authority is to be it will likely have to be imposed on them and then work to gain their support. ( good luck with that )

How many times have we seen this scenario: a "technical expert" imposed by external forces; the people being ruled get no say, and immediately turn against the foreign implant. Might as well put out a sign saying, "Welcome back, Hamas!"
The new Palestinian PM has zero support...does that mean he's an unknown to the population or is he someone the population knows and dislikes? Because if it's the former, the people may be willing to give him a chance. And if Netanyahu doesn't like him, that'd give him bonus points on the approval scale. Because then he'd not be considered a shill that'd betray them.
An "Authority" is an appointable non elected agency ie: A Solid Waste Authority takes care of garbage but the population doesn't have input because the Authority is the authority
I hope they are successful. The zero tolerance of corruption is an admirable goal, maybe they will develop a method that the rest of the world (USA) can emulate.
Haiti seems to be having a similar problem. They just look like they are mired in a nobody’s trustworthy situation. With good reason. And they have both the U.S. and France waiting in the wings to ask, what will we get out of it?
Why are all these non-Palestinians spending time deciding Palestine's future while the people who would be populating that future are starving to death...?
Because the Palestinians have a really bad track record of handling their future by themselves, and sometimes a people really needs an outside intervention to thrive on their own? Like, look at Japan in the first half of the 20th century--just eight years of US occupation and they've been thriving ever since entirely on their own. Germany was occupied by four different countries and yet it's VASTLY better off today than it was in the 30s and early 40s. Sometimes extremist cultures need correction and a chance for the non-extremist elements to grow and establish themselves. It's not ideal, but when things get that bad it's often the only effective option. It still has to be handled well, and I do not think Netanyahu or his government are the right people to do that *at all*, but the general idea is pretty much necessary at this point.

You're right on with this, Beau. Technocratic folks are fine as administrative bureaucrats, but not necessarily great as leaders. And if the Palestinians don't want this government, its authority will collapse rapidly. Edit: grammar
You DO live in a country where you get to pick your leaders. In theory, at least because the US is officially a democracy - the US takes pride in being the home of democracy. Your elections are considered by most outsiders to be safe - unlike Russia, where shady electoral practices are documented by the relevant UN watchdog body. BUT - democracy is dependent on people making their wishes heard via direct participation in the choice of who their elected representatives are gonna be. It's known as casting your vote in an election - AND THAT'S where the US fails to be a democracy. The US has - historically, across the board - the LOWEST rates of voter engagement as a % of the eligible popn, which consists of those aged 18+ who decided to register to vote. So NOT including those 18+ who'd LIKE to vote, but are actively PREVENTED from doing so by their states electoral legislation - a popn that is bigger in the US than elsewhere in the West, both in terms of numbers AND as a % of the 18+ popn. Then there's those that ARE eligible who choose to NOT register to vote. Nobody knows the exact numbers of these two groups of people because nobody's bothered to do the research. Unlike Palestine - the US isn't a beleaguered society. In theory, anyway. Until Trump realises he's not gonna get his way and takes no for an answer in practice, it's slightly different. Unless you practice what you preach, nobody's gonna listen to you.
Deja vu...where have we seen outside entities determining what's right for a people who get no voice? What could go wrong? Why does consent by the governed only seem to be a thing for certain countries in the West? We need you in a Cabinet level position because our leaders can't seem to understand the lessons of the past. I wish they'd learn. So many lives would be saved if they did.
Speaking of Bini the blade, did you know that he will meet behind closed doors today with US Senators. Inquiring people want to know what you think ! Thanks again Dude for all you and your crew do!!
As I've mentioned, the actions of even Hamas, are not the actions of people living in 'normal' circumstances. People just don't perform extreme actions as what Hamas did, if everything in their life is at least, on a par with those they see around them. But, ever since the world decided that the land thePalestinians were living on was going to be divided up and a portion of it handed over to another group of people who did not include them. They've been living with a short end of a stick and being told to like the taste of it. And then, Israel starts barring them from areas. Israel needs the Palestinians as a cheap labor force and have used them as such while at the same time starting to gain control over their movements to and from areas all around them. When you're treated like garbage every day when you go to work and return home and even find that you are an allowed target for theft, perescution and even injury and death, you start to get a tad.. pissy. I have a family member, a PHD in Anthropology who visited the West Bank years ago and what she saw at border crossings she described as disgusting... horrific. Demeaning. I don't condone violence, but in this case, I understand it. No one can remain sane, or the same, under such treatment. And now Netanyahooo is trying to just excise the Palestinians from Gaza. Israeli settlers are indiscriminately attacking Palestinian homes and farmlands with the support of israeli military. So, I understand. The Palestinians will only accept and should only be asked to accept a leader they want. Period. They deserve at least that little tidbit of humanity.

What am I missing here?
The Palestinians need to have a voice but if they pick Hamas or someone equally unacceptable the rest of the world will shake their heads and walk away. That will once again leave Palestine and Israel alone to resolve things and we know how that goes. Palestinians must reject extremism, or it'll be 2007 again.

Next question: Do any of them over there actually care what the population wants? The PA certainly doesn’t…😡
( this would reduce Jews to a minority with little control of government )
So if these are at all accurate, a large percentage of the Palestinian population are delusional about possible solutions. So if a new Palestinian Authority is to be it will likely have to be imposed on them and then work to gain their support. ( good luck with that )
@@peterkottke2570Looks like getting a majority of people's buy-in to decide what to eat for lunch might be too hard. No matter what happens, some group is going to be upset, and they and Hamas are likely to target both sides.

He's known, but known not as a leader, but as an advisor.

Haiti seems to be having a similar problem. They just look like they are mired in a nobody’s trustworthy situation. With good reason. And they have both the U.S. and France waiting in the wings to ask, what will we get out of it?
Was this person elected, or appointed. I feel like that's an important distinction.
Appointed by somebody who was elected forever ago but hasn't had a real election since.
Thank you Team Beau.
Why are all these non-Palestinians spending time deciding Palestine's future while the people who would be populating that future are starving to death...?
Racism of enthnostates.
Umm, because another state is actively starving them to death…
Palestine doesn’t have a future whilst under the control of Israel…
@@Raptor747it would be interesting to compare the tonnage of American weaponry dropped on Palestinians with the tonnage of "aid" we have given them. But America does excel at murdering innocent people.

You're right on with this, Beau. Technocratic folks are fine as administrative bureaucrats, but not necessarily great as leaders. And if the Palestinians don't want this government, its authority will collapse rapidly.
Edit: grammar
Thank you
So the solution is to go back to the original setup after WW2, of imposing a government not really of the people, just a lot less land?
Losing a war is like losing an election. There are consequences.
Imagine living in a country where you get to pick your own leaders.
Do you mean like the USA did in '81, '01, and '16 and the Palestinians did in 2006?
The President in my country has been in power since 1982. He always wins with like 90%+ of the votes. He doesn't campaign.
you don't pick yours. you're given a limited choice between options others have chosen for you.
@@svgs650rBush Jr, and Trump were "installed" by the electoral college, not elected by the people.
Sago Beau thanks again.
Why should Palestinians get a voice when most of the American people don't get a voice?
Deja vu...where have we seen outside entities determining what's right for a people who get no voice? What could go wrong?
Why does consent by the governed only seem to be a thing for certain countries in the West?
We need you in a Cabinet level position because our leaders can't seem to understand the lessons of the past. I wish they'd learn. So many lives would be saved if they did.

Truth and well said. None of us would peacefully acquiesce to those living conditions, nor should the Palestinians.

Prior to Oct 2023 the majority of people in Gaza supported Hamas or one of the other Gaza terrorist organizations. That number has only gotten worse since then. So who is likely to be accepted by Gaza given that the rest of the world (who are going to be footing the bill) aren't that aren't likely to be accepted anybody with Hamas/IJP etc.? What am I missing here?
Yes! It must be the “consent of the governed,” or it means nothing for the Palestinian people.
Thinking that the key will be acceptance, temporarily,
by those who would otherwise have a shot at the job,
and how long they are willing to wait before getting another chance
