Too many catchphrase words, - "crazy"- "shocking"- , "- the goat"- none of these are true, relax with the bait words, it's not crazy, it's not shocking and he's not the goat, these guys use computers man, they're not better than past players, they memorize engine lines, and it's not shocking
@@chrisoverka7341 Magnus is the goat, this game was crazy, Magnus Carlsen's 8th move was indeed shocking, Magnus and Hikaru do use computers, I never compared Magnus and Hikaru to past players beyond Magnus being the GOAT (which he is), yes of course they memorize engine lines, and yes again the game was shocking. Let me know I missed something brother! See you in the next video!
Here's a few tips: 1. Add the play clock - this will give viewers knowledge of how much time is left and therefore how much pressure the players are under when they make their moves. 2. Add accuracy number - this would be a fun thing for the viewers to know while watching the video. If possible (idk how hard this would be but it would be cool af) if you could start the game with the accuracy number at 100% then show it going down with each inaccuracy down their final accuracy number they achieved for the game. 3. Reference the top engine move more often - this will give the viewers insight on what the actual best move would be for each move. I know you already reference the top engine move sometimes but it just feels like not often enough. As far as everything else, your explanation and level of detail is good. I like how you don't go into too much depth for every possible line for every move, you have quite a good balance going with that.
Wow that is really terrific feedback, I really appreciate that! I will try to add the play clock as a lot of people have requested that, I did not realize it was a big thing for the viewer experience. For the accuracy, I will have to look into that! For the engine lines, yes I do my own engine analysis for all of the games, in the past people complained I gave too many engine lines, I am still trying to find a good balance with them. This game was incredibly chaotic and there were lots of errors, if I covered every error the video would be way longer (its already pretty long). But I see your point and I also like to know the top engine lines, I will try to work this in more in the future! And thanks for your feedback on liking the current depth of analysis at least some of the time, it took a while to figure out that people like it when I draw arrows and talk about sub-variations, but they don't like it when I move the pieces on the board for sub-variations, so that is what I'm doing right now. Again thanks or the feedback - I will work on these things starting tomorrow! (well I guess today, it's late here lol)
I like the way you present the games, but you need to stop ignoring the engine. You talk about "good" or "obvious" moves on moves where the eval bar goes all the way down. If the bar goes down (or up playing with black), then it's not a good move. A few clear examples of this: 13:25, 14:31, 15:20.
To be fair, the eval bar is based on playing perfectly from that position, which even Magnus won’t do. The eval bar doesn’t consider “playability,” which is when the subsequent good moves are thematic and easy to spot. So often going down the most “playable” lines is better than going down the optimal, but obscure line, where one wrong move could spell disaster.
It's interesting, Black has the advantage after ...Nxd4 trying to remove the defender of Bf5, then Qxd4 is forced, the queen can't take on f5 because the rook on h8 would hang, but Black should be able to stabilize with an edge. But yes it is a very interesting / funny looking move, great find!
Yes it's the top engine choice in the position, it's a pretty common idea from the French Tarrasch and the structure here is quite similar so it makes sense Magnus would find the idea!
I mean, let's be honest and not try to sell every single move Magnus play: the promotion wasn't a "clutch idea" but a totally unnecessary move, because R takes N pins the R itself and Rf1 is something any decent player would see. Even Qxg3 was unnecessary at that point. That game was lost for black 3 moves earlier.
Yes the move is called "en pessant." When a pawn moves 2 squares forward, and there's a pawn immediately next to it, you can capture the pawn with the neighboring pawn at a diagonal! The game is a good example of the move.
Well that's a fair criticism, I am always working on improving my commentary. This was an action packed game with a lot going on, but I will try to be more concise!
@@drmikechessdon’t be more concise. You commentary is excellent and 99% of us really like the way it is. However, I must admit that you do have a LOT of teeth!
I do not see why you need to add filth to chess. You may not say it outright, but everyone knows what "the f" means. I do not want or need that going through my head.
What the fuck? Stay off the Internet if you don't want such "filth" going through your head. because if you get so easily offended you will not last long online and should not be online at all.

What do you think of Magnus Carlsen's crazy idea 8...g5, starting the attack on the kingside?

At 3:58 can't magnus take the pawn? Because after nxe5, nxe5, then queen can't take otherwise the knight will take queen?
the only thing youre missing is the time situation of each player
Thanks for the tip! I might try to find a way to work it in, is that something you guys want?
@drmikechess Absolutely. Also, add in best engine moves as alternatives to their actual moves more often.
@@drmikechessTime pressure for sure!
An early ... g5 is actually a common occurrence in some variations of the French, for instance in the 3. ... Nf6 line of the Tarrasch variation.
At 8:20 what about bishop to f5 for hikaru. Its dangerous pin move but something i spotted

Yes it's the top engine choice in the position, it's a pretty common idea from the French Tarrasch and the structure here is quite similar so it makes sense Magnus would find the idea!
6:44 Hikaru doesn't take on g4, because his rook on e1 is hanging.

"en passant" I've never seen that before.
