Not a bad technique but there are some things that could make it better. What I personally do for the ambient lighting is put it right above the scene to the point it covers all of it, remap the horizontal slider to 165, enable shadows, then set the radius to 2000-3000.
Yeah I'm an idiot. Of course you would change the max slider values. Thanks for the tutorial, I have been having trouble lighting large scenebuilds, so they usually end up as porly lit messes
for posters, i usually render out an image with fullbright enabled then use that as an overlay in photoshop and adjust the opacity accordingly

I suggest making the shadow filter size *near* as low as possible, because if you do it all the way, it sometimes looks weird and choppy
