I went there as a kid with a group of other kids and we all explored the island together. There was an Elevator Shaft that went down three floors but we couldn't get down there. No elevator just a shaft but there was definitely lots of subterranean stuff in there. There were bunkers that led to long corridors underground that eventually would lead up another set of stairs and back to the surface. And the next day all us kids had poison sumac really bad. I had it in my eyes and everything. I'll never forget that trip.
@@kennethwilkinson8244 Dutch Island has the subterranean stuff. Fort Wetherill and Fort Getty have tunnels, but they don't go underground, just through the fort itself. Explored them as a kid
Apparently we call this Dutch island bc the Dutch had a trade port there in the early 1600s. Pretty neat place and the sight of a minor skirmish during the revolutionary war
I walked down that boulder road, Through a child's eye saw places where I used to go. Where I crawled barefoot with a fishing pole To the rock that overlooked that steelhead hole But it's true--silver river turning blue. It was a small town in a smaller world. Just a black dot on an old map with its edges curled. Where they built their industries on the edge of town-- Leaching chemicals from underground Now it's true--that silver river turning blue.

Deer running at 0:48.
I am 63 and I have been taking a boat out there since I was 12. Spent last Sunday on the beach
I walked down that boulder road,
Through a child's eye saw places where I used to go.
Where I crawled barefoot with a fishing pole
To the rock that overlooked that steelhead hole
But it's true--silver river turning blue.
It was a small town in a smaller world.
Just a black dot on an old map with its edges curled.
Where they built their industries on the edge of town--
Leaching chemicals from underground
Now it's true--that silver river turning blue.
Is the person operating the drone on the screen at 1:14?
Yes.
is this where fort weatheral state park is.
No...East side of Jamestown at Fort Getty, look offshore to see Dutch Island. This is Fort Greble on Dutch Island.
