I've started syncopating/swinging all the traditional songs I play on tin whistle and it's loads of fun. Then when going back to a straight sound, it helps with the time keeping a lot.
Hi Mike, if you tune GDAE, you're often best looking for mandolin tabs, there seems to be more of them out there. www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/folk-music-mandolin-tab/cooleys_reel.htm
I really like the tone of your Pilgrim banjo. I can't seem to find any specifications of the Pilgrim banjo online. Could you tell me how wide the neck is at the nut (top)? The Gold Tone I tried, and sent back, had a very narrow measurement at the nut which made it difficult to play. Also, is the tone ring (White Lady-like?) decently made? One last thing, is the pot solid and not plywood? I would really appreciate it if you would let me know as I am looking at purchasing one that is advertised on eBay. Thanks very much!!
Hi Alex, the nut is 30mm. The pot is solid, and I'm afraid I don't know much about tone-ring quality. The specs for the open-back version can be found here. www.jhs.co.uk/pilgrim-celtic-dawn-2-open-back-tenor-banjo I think it's a great banjo.
Best version of Cooleys on TH-cam!
Very nice playing! Grabbed my fiddle and played along
Nitty gritty dirt band!

Great playing and a beautiful tone
Beautiful
Love it
Great playing
Bad ass!!
Nice!
This tune wasn’t originally meant to be played syncopated/dotted, but it sounds so much better played that way 👍

Irish tenor banjo has the exact same tuning as a mandolin.
But an octave lower...........
