    Tipping is horrible, they should pay employees better. They would get more business, if they stopped asking for tips.

      Exactly. Pay a fair wage. Unfortunately in capitalism, this is this result. Capitalism never favors the consumers.

      FEDERAL LAW says that tipped employees can be paid as little as $2.13 an hour!! It's a huge loophole in American law that needs to be closed. I don't know why in 2023 paying workers $5 an hour is even allowed!!

      @@kobyschechter8163 But if they do not make enough in tips, the employer has to pay them the State's minimum wage.

      In US, in every state, every tipped employee is legally guaranteed to make at least the "regular minimum wage" because when they don't receive enough tips and end up earning less than the full regular minimum wage, the employer is legally required to compensate the difference. So that means, every tipped worker in Massachusetts for example, will make at least $15/hr even if they receive $0 tip. Same for every other state.

      @@kobyschechter8163 wrong, they get the federal or state minimum which is at minimum 7.25. They get 2.13 ONLY from the resturant.

    The whole culture of tipping is utter nonsense. Employers should pay their employees reasonable salaries. Why should I, as a patron, add 20% to the bill? Some cultures abhor tipping. It is actually a kind of begging. Interestingly, it is most widespread and tolerated in that bastion of quasi-capitalism, the USA. My wife and I refuse to add tips to takeout bills or to fork over extra money at Starbucks. As Nancy would say: just say No!

    • @heidilam1978
      @heidilam1978 ปีที่แล้ว

      After talking to many international friends/guests, I figured out why this whole crappy tipping culture only happens in America. Americans just don't seem to know how to say no. Tip begging is really not that lucrative in other countries but only in US, there are enough people who can't say no and pay lots of money in tips.
      Also people who say "not tipping" will make waiters stave are factually wrong because In US, in every state, every tipped employee is legally guaranteed to make at least the "regular minimum wage" because when they don't receive enough tips and end up earning less than the full regular minimum wage, the employer is legally required to compensate the difference. So that means, every tipped worker in Massachusetts for example, will make at least $15/hr even if they receive $0 tip. Same for every other state.

      If people can afford to eat out that's their business. Employers and employees should be happy someone is patronizing their businesses. The cost of dinning out covers the food and other overhead like the service but the employers don't want to pay better wages. You shouldn't try to bleed out your customers.

    In America you're not required to tip period. Service industry workers are not entitled to a tip and customers are not obligated to tip as those are the facts about tipping. Tipping is 100% discretionary for the customer.

    just pay the workers .. i don't understand why customers have to pay for the waiter/waitress's "salary" while we are the customers there when the owners don't pay fair wages. In that case we should also "co-own" the restaurants right? since we pay the workers to work there anyway lol

    I am a tipper but I find the entitlement attitude is a little crazy when you are practically waiting on yourself aside from cooking the food. Just today I was ordering 3 wigs on line that totaled $227 and as I was checking out they requested a tip of 10, 15 or 20%. Now I tip all the time 18-30% but I was trying to figure out who the f____ am I tipping. Well I cancelled the order and placed an order from Amazon. If employees are not getting a reasonable base salary take that up with your employer. Take a look around there are a lot of restaurants closing. 😮
