The utter idiocy of that guy saying you can't record a building. Next time somebody says that BP ask them if they have ever taken a photograph of something that has a private building in the background (they will have done) and if they asked permission first. Clowns.
He isn't an "idiot" though is he? He was baited, and took it - which is the whole point of these videos and the real reason we all like to watch them. Other than fanboys of auditing no one is going to see anything other than someone reacting fairly predictably to someone bothering a random company in the middle of the day. The same way MOST OF US would also behave, if the tables were turned and odd people were doing odd things outside our places of work. As for laws around photography, of course most people are ignorant about them. If they weren't, it wouldn't be such a goldmine for generating you tube content, and auditors would see their views dwindle (hint: none of us actually give a shit about seeing the roofs of industrial units), and for us all to get on our high horses and call people "morons", "idiots", "clowns" for behaving in the exact same way we likely would if baited. Still, I can watch the video too, and mock the silly workers and their ignorance around drones, and I feel good about myself., it's all a bit of light entertainment, who cares about anyone's feelings at being baited for clicks, and I get a small dose of superiority as well watching from my armchair. Because I know something about shoving a camera in strangers faces and they don't. I'm special. And it's all good.
@davepeters3317 I agree with a lot of this. I watch these videos because I find the interactions fascinating when there is resistance to what the auditor is doing. The ones where it is immediately apparent that the company are not offering resistance and engage in friendly chats I stop watching as it's boring and as you say I couldn't be remotely interested in what the roof of their building looks like from the drone camera or indeed what the company do and I find it comical that the auditor tries to make out that their watchers find that interesting. However when there is a strange man masked up outside with a camera, whilst I would expect staff to come out and ask what they are doing, once it's explained to them they absolutely are idiots when they start coming out with all this not allowed crap. Surely you don't need to be a lawyer to understand basic photography law. I mean what posesses people to think it would be illegal to take pictures/videos of a building from a public place? It's mind boggling when you think about it. It's like saying you arent allowed to look at it with your eyes as you walk past. All a camera is doing is recording what the brain might not remember. There is an irrational fear of camera's.
@@streetspirit956 Thank you for responding fairly, so I will do so in kind. Of course people working in these units should understand the basics of photography but the whole auditing thing works *precisely* because the behaviour is out of the ordinary. It isn't "just a man with a camera" and it's disingenuous for auditors to claim that. Actual photographers are out filming birds or mountains not grotty industrial estates. There is no real justification for wanting to film these businesses, and the pretexts offered are not convincing. So, yes, although you are correct that people should stop reacting like idiots, the reason auditors focus on them is because it is predictable that some will take the bait. It's nothing to do with photography rights and everything to do with exploiting a loophole, in social dynamics, where something is both very legal but also very odd. Odd, in the sense that someone flying a drone over some two bit curtain maker company, or whatever, creates uncertainty re motivations and intention. I don't think people are idiots. They are human. Behaving in infallible ways, to an uncertain situation, with no real time to reflect or consider. This is how humans are: hence road rage, etc. Who can honestly say they are immune to that? Of course not to photography, because we watch these videos, but almost all humans in uncertain situations act without much thought. Not only that auditors have the upper hand because they have specifically honed a whole script on how to provoke - "I just thought I'd notify you about the drone (aka, increase my chances of getting a reaction and not going home with nothing recorded), "get back to work", etc. These things are specifically chosen to bait people. To be clear, I follow auditors, but the peak of its purpose has passed. AB during the covid years was when auditing was really challenging authority and authority figures, but now that the police have mostly wised up auditing is left just harassing joe bloggs at work, likely on minimum wage, so we who watch can feel good about ourselves knowing that we're not that stupid (when, in fact, we probably are, because almost all humans act first with emotions and try to rationalise their behaviour afterwards, not the other way round). In this particularly video the man acted perfectly reasonably. He wasn't aggressive, or rude, or nasty. Yet the comments here are full of insults and slurs. That, after all, is part of the point of these videos: for the viewer to feel superior. But this man was just not playing along with the TH-camr, and why should he. No one is entitled to politeness. Yes, he blustered a bit, but only after he was baited with the get back to work remark. Auditing has come a long way from AB masterfully dismissing 6 or 7 police trying to illegal detain him. Now it's just baiting joe bloggs for entertainment and a bit of rotting fruit throwing.
