DRY SHAMPOO: Cheap vs Expensive

  • In this video, I'm comparing one of the most expensive dry shampoo versus one of the cheapest dry shampoo on the market. There's a noticeable difference from dry shampoo ingredients to their performance on oily hair and/or greasy hair. I tested both dry shampoos for five days to see the differences in these hair products. Which dry shampoo is your favorite and why?

I order rice starch (powder) from Amazon and use an old blush brush to apply it to my head. It works perfectly and doesn’t have a smell. Lots of DIY recipes on Pinterest.

I’m not a fan of dry shampoo at all. But...when I was training my hair to go without washings and growing it out, I made my own with cinnamon and cornstarch as I have auburn hair. Cinnamon is great for the scalp. If you are blond use ginger and cornstarch. Save money and it’s healthier on the hair.

Aarohi Brar coconut charcoal and/or cocoa mix. No cornstarch. Be warned...Coconut charcoal is MESSY and might dry your scalp out too much. So don’t use too often.

Working from home, Hairloss has taught me to love my hair more. Have thrown away my cheaper hair tools, oiling my hair regularly and invested in a Dyson Airwrap. My hair health has improved. I used dry shampoo few times last year and have been not using it since. To me they just itch my scalp a lot, Cause dandruff etc. I limit washing my hair to once a week..

😅 I know! You can still shower everyday, you just don't wash your hair - and you save some blowdrying and curling/straightening damage. Although, I use the cheap one she doesn't like, lol...it's good enough for me. It also seems like my hair grows way faster the less I shampoo it.

I recently tried a foam dry shampoo and it just doesn't dry without a blow dryer. I do feel like my hair feels smoother and cleaner with it, but you don't get the texture like you do with dry shampoo. I have fine, thin hair and I think the foam is probably better for people with medium to thick or coarse hair.

    I use Baptiste. (ngredients
Butane, Isobutane, Propane, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Alcohol Denat., Fragrance, Limonene, Linalool, Geraniol, Benzyl Benzoate, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Cetrimonium Chloride). It ranges in price but averages about $8 a can. I flip my hair over to spray and then do the top layer. There is white residue but it brushes away. Its the best one I’ve used recently. I try to wash my hair every 4 days, I sometimes get to 5. I have also used dry shampoo for a couple of days straight but it gets dry and a bit sticky after that. Nice demo. Massaging in is something I wasn’t doing thoroughly.

  • @wrecklisseve

I went the DIY route -- corn starch and a bit of unsweetened cocoa powder (enough to blend with my hair) in a reused spice shaker. I spent maybe $6 on both ingredients, but they are big containers, they will last me a long while (and I use them for other things as well). I can't spray it, I have to sprinkle it on, but no white cast. It feels nice, no grit, clumping, stickiness, or itching. I don't notice an odor. My hair is very fine and fragile so I don't want to use alcohol, silicones, or aluminum on my hair or head. Both brands you tested had alcohol pretty high up on the ingredient list.

I'd love to see more dry shampoo comparisons! Especially drugstore, like Klorane & Batiste.
Also popular ones you can get at Sephora like Living proof & Amika!
I haaaate when dry shampoo makes my scalp itch - I'll defo take more notice of which ingredients might be the most irritating from now on!
P.s. Omg I can't stand when hair products are overly scented - it's like a bottle of perfume gets dumped on your head.. Ick! 😂

Dry shampoo is definitely one of the best beauty inventions of modern times. I can't wash my hair everyday because it will cause my scalp to get too dry and itchy. When it's not too hot or humid, I can get away with not using dry shampoo until the third day. My hair has been healthier overall too since I started washing it less frequently. I use Batiste, L'ange or the Not Your Mother's tapioca variation in the green and white can.

    • @cheelor13

Yes. If you shampoo too much it strips the natural oils your scalp produces. Because of that it works overtime and therefore actually creates MORE oil! So if you find you’re always feeling greasy, back off a day and see if that helps. Hope this made sense.

Is this how much dry shampoo you usually use? I've tried so many, and I always feel like I use too little and look greasy, or too much and it looks like it's full of dry shampoo.... But I don't think I've ever used more than a few sprays.... Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong.
I gave up and just wash my hair daily

I like to new moogoo it a powder we have it in Australia it is more natural and good for people with sensitive scalp made with corn and tapioca starch and free from harsh ingredients can coat and irritate the scalp suitable for all hair types it let your scalp breathe and is vegan friendly made in Australia

Using dry shampoos too much is damaging to the scalp so I personally will use baby powder with cornstarch (but I am a blonde) and my blow-dry on a very low heat but as far as drug store dry shampoos my favorite would have to be Dove over NYM

I feel like the other dry shampoo did better at first bc so much more dry shampoo spray came out then the spray for the not your mothers dry shampoo. So even though it was the same amount of sprays for each product the diamond one still had more dry shampoo than the other. Can you post your favorite dry shampoo ever with a link (and also a link to both of the brushes you used pretty please and thank you so much love all of your videos and reviews)

I’ve used that specific one from Not Your Mother’s. Personally, I didn’t like it. I also have a parrot and cannot/should not use aerosol cans. I switched to Bumble and Bumble’s pret-a-powder and use a blow dryer to get rid of the white cast.

I love not my mother’s.I have very thick hair and I have to use a little more because the spray is not as intense but it works well on me. I would never spend $50 on a dry shampoo. That is ludicrous.

Im my county we do a lot for the environment and lots of chemicals are forbidden and these gas propellant bottles are gone, same we never even have had like your cookingoilsprays. I would never use products like these. Why not just wash with water and shampoo? I use eco no perfume no nonsense shampoo and add nothing to the hair after washing. My hair needs a wash every 5-7 days now without any gunk put in it.
