This song has been up there with my top favorites (maybe my all time favorite) by Alex G since I first fell in love with him after Trick, DSU, and Beach Music. And now to stumble on this rendition of Phoebe covering it, is like hearing it again for the first time.
Davey broke the law again Heard this time he's going to the pen Guess I didn't eat my lunch 'Cause I was going to miss him a whole bunch Maybe he was out of line But he was still a pretty close friend of mine Maybe he had hurt me bad But a brother is a brother and that is that Mom's in a mood this week 'Cause she thinks that her family is going crazy Guess it started with the baby She went in for a hug, then it bit her on the cheek That was pretty funny to me But I guess I should have more sympathy I ain't ever raised a kid But I bet I'd do a good job if I did Had a dream about a promised land Walkin' 'round with a big gun in my hand And when I look you in the eye You're gonna tell me that you love me and hold me tight 'Cause you know that I have no fear Ain't gonna walk into the river and disappear I'm gonna be a powerful man Red blood running down the broken sand I couldn't tell you What it means to me I couldn't tell you What it means to me I couldn't tell you What it means to me
Capo 5 G - C the way through but hold the high E down. G: 3-2-0-0-0-3 C: 0-3-2-0-0-3 She might also be playing the C chord like this: C: 0-3-2-0-1-3 That’s all repeat forever.
@@gripntie5589 Although for the lengthy outro (starting at 1:52), it switches to a repeating Dsus4 (x-A-D-A-D-G) and C pattern. I think she would be the first to admit that she has a predilection for these chord voicing (with variations depending on the song).
I love Alex G, and she is great and has good taste, I just wish he sounded as good as he does live as he does on record. I'm in Philly and he's playing Brooklyn 2 tickets are under $100. At Brooklyn Steel. It just sounds like a coffee house band, maybe if they had a five dollar cover I would go.
@@PogaYlants that comment makes absolutely no sense, music and art are totally subjective. So you can judge it in fact just about every year for decades they have this little award ceremony I think youve of it, it's called THE GRAMMYS.

dude hope you went, because their live set for this album is fucking great. maybe 3 months ago they didnt have it fine tuned, but right now they might have the best 60 minute live act going for under 50 bucks.
if it was possible for me to see alex g i would be so grateful idc how they sound i’d love it. ugh how it this fair why do i have to live in a place where nobody tours 😭 and then people who can’t appreciate the music get to go and not me.

Davey broke the law again
Heard this time he's going to the pen
Guess I didn't eat my lunch
'Cause I was going to miss him a whole bunch
Maybe he was out of line
But he was still a pretty close friend of mine
Maybe he had hurt me bad
But a brother is a brother and that is that
Mom's in a mood this week
'Cause she thinks that her family is going crazy
Guess it started with the baby
She went in for a hug, then it bit her on the cheek
That was pretty funny to me
But I guess I should have more sympathy
I ain't ever raised a kid
But I bet I'd do a good job if I did
Had a dream about a promised land
Walkin' 'round with a big gun in my hand
And when I look you in the eye
You're gonna tell me that you love me and hold me tight
'Cause you know that I have no fear
Ain't gonna walk into the river and disappear
I'm gonna be a powerful man
Red blood running down the broken sand
I couldn't tell you
What it means to me
I couldn't tell you
What it means to me
I couldn't tell you
What it means to me
Anyone know how to play this version?
where do you find these?
♥️😍👍

She killed it...any guitar virtuosos know what chords she's playing??
Capo 5
G - C the way through but hold the high E down.
G: 3-2-0-0-0-3
C: 0-3-2-0-0-3
She might also be playing the C chord like this:
C: 0-3-2-0-1-3
That’s all repeat forever.

Unpopular opinion: some covers are better than the original song and this living proof!
amazing news for gay people
agonizing*
i think this sounds like shit but it is still a cool song that she chose to cover

Art is art man, hard to judge it.
