    I just want to add that this worked for me! I have been bending my charge cord for months to get a good connection for my ipad to charge and I was about to pay to get it fixed until I finally found your video today. You are the best! Cheap packing tape is a lot less expensive than going to a repair place.

    Had the same issue on our son's iPad air and my Iphone 6S Plus, was considering replacing the lightning port myself on the iPhone and having our son's done professionally as they are harder and the iPad connection was much more loose, 4 pieces of scotch tape later both charging up and no more loose connection! What a great time and money saving tip! Liked and Subscribed.

    I’d tried every cleaning hack I could find and still my phone would only charge when the charger was at a certain angle. I was starting to think I’d need to pay for repairs or even a new phone when I found this video. A tiny strip of insulation tape later, my phone charges just like it did when it was new! You saved my ass here, dude - thank you!

  • @richskinny668
    @richskinny668 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks, Carl. I did not want to use tape to fix the problem, so I thoroughly cleaned the charging slot with a toothbrush. I put sanitizer on the toothbrush (because I knew it would evaporate fast, thus not causing water damage). I could see the gunk on the toothbrush and cleaned it off with toilet pape. Voila! No more charging problems. Hope this helps others.

      @@CarlPugh update: the first time didn’t work, and just recently i tried to fix it but i put tape over ALL the sides, top, bottom, left, and right. the problem is that it has a VERY TERRIBLE loose cable, like, it didn’t charge at all. and even now with it taped up (every spot/hole) its still not 100% fixed, more like 85%. but seriously though, thanks. i heard its around 100$ - 300$ to get it replaced, and thats a lot.

    I couldn’t find what to do when there was no dirt on the port but the connection still was loose anywhere but here. It may not be as “permanent” as I would it to be, but it’s a big noticeable difference with no cost. Electric tape was a bit too thick, but the clear one worked wonders. Now I actually have to try a bit to unplug it rather than accidentally unplug it every minute. Big thank you.

    Oh my God! We cleaned my son’s iPad port several times. Yes, wiggling the charging wire around did work for some time, but Presto, as I too thought the problem was exactly what you pointed out. By placing two pieces of thin tape into the port, the connection was reestablished, and is now charging. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Omg! I have been battling my charging port for 4/5 months. My ex stole my phone and I was left with a older 6 plus given to me by a coworker. I have just about lost my mind dealing with this plus the stress of a break up and needing to relocate. It’s hard to make important calls with a broken phone. This is going to save me money and eliminates the stress of not having a properly functioning device. I plan to buy a new phone after the move. Thank you so much❤

    Excited to try this, thanks for the tip! My 6s barely charges anymore without jiggling it around, and putting pressure on the cable in a particular position, the cable just falls out when upright. I even cleaned it and I’m using a legit apple lightning cable.

  • @NyteWaves
    @NyteWaves 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Thanks! I am fixing an iPad with this issue and I think it is an Apple refurbished model. It seems Apple may use your same technique. At first I was using some tools to remove the debris in the port. Then a black plastic looking piece started to come out. it was pretty big but seemed to disintegrate when i pulled on it. So i removed it. Now I am thinking that is what they used to try to make it more snug! The side clips now work to "snap" it in, but there is still a lot of play up and down. The tape should solve that.

    Another saved repair for an older eye phone 6. A retired auto tech with a huge understanding of terminal pin fit. Yes, it must be clean, also use an approved charge cable that is 6 feet long. Always unplug the cable when transporting, it just strains tiny metal terminals. This is the equivalent of someone grabbing 6 different hairs on your (Place Part Here) and pull on them all day with a gentle weight constant. Hurts a little, but will drive you crazy. The connections to charge the battery and a certain amount of battery management system is on the back side, opposite of the screen. Try the packing tape thinnest first, move up from their. TIP! Depending on the brand you might want to steer away from electrical tape. I first used Scotch Super 33+ but it left a lot of adhesive gunk behind and pulled out as soon as I put the case back on. 😓 Regular clear tape worked fine, ironically.

      Scotch Super33 is extra stretchy and sticky rubber resin -PVC tape....excellent for high voltage electrical work, and self-sealing connections, but cheap “vinyl” electrical is “stiffer” and usually less sticky.

    You are awesome. Fixed my iPad Air 2 from fixing which should cost around 100 euros. Now 1 cent of self adhesive and problem fixed. Thanks

    Oh my gosh thankyou you're a life saver the tape trick worked!

    Thanks, man.
    I'm quite handy with fixing iPhones and iPads, and had cleaned the lightning port of my iPad Mini 2 very well already..
    But it wouldn't charge. It would just jump from charger connected, to nothing, to charger connected, to nothing..
    I thought maybe I messed something up when I installed my new digitizer, but it turns out it was just this... 'Loose' (or 'roomy') charging port.
    The electrical tape made the difference :)
    Not the prettiest solution, but it works.
    And it's easily replaced for no money at all when the tape comes loose eventually.
    (Pretty much every piece of technology I own (including power tools) has had a 'not pretty but it works' fix like this along the way.
    And they work fine for years after.
    So it fits the rest of my stuff ;))
    Sincerely; thanks a lot
    This has saved me a lot of money and, more importantly, got my iPad Mini working again (and consequently; all my music / DAW files back. I use that thing to make music, since my iPhone alone doesn't have enough storage for all my apps)
    Cheers from Amsterdam

    The fact that you're the only source on the internet with this trick. Not on Reddit or anywhere on TH-cam. It's sad that this is not more known.

    Thank you so much for this! These are the only instructions I have found that actually got my charging port to work again. Everything else either said to clean the port or reset the phone, which were not fixing the problem. Now I can listen to my metal music again! :)

    A consumer paying $999.00 for a product shouldn’t have to put electrical tape in the product because it’s worn out. Apple products are designed to fail, and the repair costs are close to or exceed the replacement costs. Loyal users will almost always opt for the newer model. Which are released at least annually.

    My headphones now no longer come out of the jack when I’m running also!!!! so it’s a double win for me!
    If the toothpick and paper clip do not work, people can also try tipping a very small amount of 91% isopropyl onto a small piece of cotton and using tweezers to clean the prongs on the phone as well as the charger. Just give it time to dry before plugging back in of course!
