@@5Chr5ome5 in terms of representing what your characters are, and their backstory through what is shown in gameplay, there is SO many better ways to do reaper. He’s an edgy bozo in the game, you’d get absolutely nothing about him through gameplay other than he’s a bit cringe.

just a note: Moira didn't experiment on him after the swiss fight, she did it way before, it was one of the reasons why reaper brought her into black watch.
The black watch event confirms this
Reaper was injured in a terrorist attack on the main overwatch branch and Moira dragged him out and healed him. It mirrors mercy and genji.

Reyes and Morrison (Soldier 76) fought at the Swiss Headquarters because tension, internal and external/political, was building up rlly badly. The two fought, probably going near the base’s power core/reactor, and ended up blowing it up in their fight. Morrison’s body was never found, but Moira found Reyes’ body, which was in a near death state. To quickly save him before he expired, she injected him with a stronger version of what gave Reyes the ability to turn partially into dark mist. It saved him, at the cost of being in constant agony and being able completely into dark mist with concentration.
Edit: Yes, I had the time to read the lore and type this out. Was this the best use of my time? Probably not, but reading the lore is better than hearing a general and incorrectly summarized version of it.

Someone said his reasoning is bad but that's really dumb, America's incarceration rates are 7 times higher than the second highest incarnation rate in the world, but our crime stays far worse. Our prisons are what creates a culture around crime and promotes it

I think the one thing that's off here is that Reaper had his family before joining Overwatch.
Moira experimented on Reyes way before the Swiss HQ incident. It has to be at least before Retribution.

Pisses me off how they reveal one thing and leave us with even more questions. We're presented with a memory of 1 specific day but we don't know when that took place. I just assume it was the last BDay he got to be there for cause... well idk why else would he remember that day specifically if it was 20 years ago

@@Balloonbot no the short story that was published last year was exactly like this, the writer is god awful and he made reaper's lore go through a massive retcon that doesn't even line up with any of the older lore that we had until then.
He also spent like 40% of the story talking about Reaper's wife and how important and special she was for him even though we had NEVER heard or knew of her bc she was never mentioned before, not even by sombra. The only time we "saw" her was during the Christmas comic from 2016 and at the time we couldn't tell if he was there because of the woman, the man or the child that were on his part of the comic, this was because he didn't want people to believe Reaper was gay 💀

There is one thing about Reaper that’s interesting. In his wiki, it mentioned how he didn’t mind Jack taking over Overwatch- but then it says that he fought Jack out of jealousy for the role, so it’s possible that they fought for a different reason and this was just a cover up
He did mind. Reyes did all the work but they made jack the hero for publicity. Little by little Reyes got jealous. And Reyes way of doing things was not right so at the end jack and Reyes fought.
@@zeken0425 the blackwatch event is specifically where it all went wrong, instead of extracting the talon leader reyes flat out killed him in the open, this would have been alright otherwise but he did it in the heat of the moment which caused blackwatch to be sent out to the public eye
Jeff himself said Reyes didn't mind and was relieved he wasn't given a PR job. The disagreement, from Mercy's words in Storm Rising, started around that time and was about whether or not they should seize OW activity. But we don't even know who wanted what🤦♀️ And there's no actual lore the 2 fought and caused the explosion, that's fandom theory😩 There's only a mention of "fear on Jack's face" a second after the explosion, so we know they were together at the moment, nothing else
There was a power struggle between Soldier and Reaper, Reyes did wanted to lead OW but the rest wanted a poster boy and not someone who was doing Black ops at the time so they picked Soldier as the leader of OW meanwhile Reyes kept his lead role in Blackwatch.

With a backstory like that I can't blame him for acting the way he does honestly.
It theorized and hinted quite a bit that Reyes did already have his reaper powers before the fall of overwatch, but they were less intense, and then Moira’s experimentation caused him to struggle to maintain his human form

So it was just like captain America super soldier stuff.
I think it was less ageing, super strength, stamina, etc

Since Gabriel still has his “reaper” abilities in the Venice incident, that meant Moira did that experiment beforehand. The theory I have is that Moira got involved with Gabriel’s cancer instead. As it advance, too far, he began to degenerate his cells too quickly, and what Moira did allowed Gabriel to regenerate at an extremely fast rate, but allowed Gabriel to control it, thus giving us his smoke form
that voice line of him being in constant pain makes sense if thats what his power is supposed to be
