Wow! I thought the page was already very good. Now it's great. A fresh eye sees what we have become blind to.. Thank you for your sincere interest in sharing your passion!
Still working through all your videos. Loving everything, but I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated this one. I’m a part of the Comics Experience community (as a writer) and I dish out and received a lot of critique, and the one thing that never ceases to amaze me is the unwillingness in some people to accept criticism. It was a no-brainer for me, when I submitted my first script and watched it get torn to shreds, to listen to the notes and fix my crap work. It didn’t even cross my mind to get all offended and say, “what do you know?!” I’ve grown a ton as a writer since then, and I attribute that mostly to my ability to accept criticism and put it to work improving my craft. So, I say all that to say this: it’s refreshing, but not surprising, to see a pro like you, already in the biz, looking for criticism, seeking out advice from your peers. It just made me smile when I started watching this video :) If you’re still willing to give some notes, I may send something over. Like I said, I’m mainly a writer, but my artist and I decided to do some solo stuff, and my solo thing turned into me (a color blind guy) learning color! On top of learning to ink, which isn’t nearly as fun as coloring. Sorry for the novel.
One thing that still puts me off a bit is the green tint of the establishing shot, which never occurs on the page again. Since the characters in the last panel you tinted purple all sit near the door, maybe try tinting the foreground green instad of purple? Could help show where everybody is in relation to the entrance and each other. Just an idea, though...
***** Makes sense. Probably also a question of taste. That's what I struggle with most when coloring. So many things to try out and you won't know if it'll work or not until you've tried it.
This vid was the best one I've seen from you yet! :D Just that one tip, and bam it looks so much better! My question is though... What if the guy with the blue vest was just as much of a character as the focus of the page, but will just make a more prominent appearance later. For one-time crowd characters it's fine, but you couldn't just temporarily change main character palettes, right? So, my question, in that case would you just desaturate his blue vest? Or, slightly mix it with the background color, in this case a peachy brown to get it to look more purple? A combination? Just curious on your thoughts, thank you so much for all the insight. :)
Hi Mr. Russell, I´ve find you channel here and there´s a lot of great information. But I didn`t find information about the dimension and resolution of a page to be colored in photoshop. Do I have to use the original dimensions of the fisical page plus 400 dpi of resolution? I would be grateful if you could help me. Great work here in this chanel. Thanks.
Hello again..:) Learned a lot from this video! Just wanted to ask, I recently got a feedback about some of the pages colored. It was from a publisher relaying the feedback through my client. So they said I should lower my 'K' to 11-40% max. And, just like your vid, add a layer to harmonize the panels on a page. They also said to look up kmr on youtube. So I'm not sure what that means. I'd really appreciate your help. I wanted to send a sample page to get a feedback from you but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to at this point, maybe once it has been published.:) Thanks!
***** thank you for the info, was really helpful. I decided to use 20% and I hope that works for them. One other thing, in general, should we adjust the level of blackness of the line arts too? Would that affect the result when printed?im thinking of lowering it to about 80% but im not sure what it would look like when printed. Really appreciate your help, gonna save up for your courses in the future..thanks!

Ah, okay. Thank you! ^_^
You may have answered this before, but How long does it take on average to colour a page for you?
Wesley Cheung Sorry, I just saw this question! I would say that 1:30 - 2 hours is average. Some shorter, some longer depending on the page.

***** Thank you, but what did you mean "comic sized"?

Thanks there's so much to learn from.
