Been listening to Christian rock and metal since 04. From then to now it's always been the same. Bands get shit on and judged just because they're Christian.
I love this band so much, and this song in particular. I only discovered these guys recently and i can't get enough. However, i am an atheist with very shallow knowledge of faith in general (whether muslim, christian, jewish etc), as well as not being a native english speaker, which definitely hinders my ability to understand some very specific expressions such as "kissing the wave". And reading about WATG, or just comments on the youtube videos, i was puzzled by people's reactions, praising the band's commitment to christian faith. Indeed, while i am not a native speaker, i can speak english (which would probably be obvious to anyone reading this comment) and therefore understand the words of songs, follow stories and whatnot. So what was i missing ? I tried for a bit with this song, to figure out what was the link between the dramatic sinking of a ship and faith ? And after a bit of research online, i figured it out. I now know what "kissing the wave" means. And i have to admit, the song is even better now that i know full well what the lyrics actually mean. I somehow love this song even more now, and again, this is coming from an atheist, who doesn't share these artists' faith. And yet, i can only bow to the absolute genius of this song and its lyrics. So thank you, wolves at the gate, for just being that good. Your music is an inspiration to me, and while i'm not going to convert anytime soon, your music helped me grow as an individual in a way that i didn't think possible. Maybe i'm getting over excited, maybe i over analyzed this song, but i don't care. I love you guys, and i can tell you that i am now going to pick apart every single one of your songs and understand each and every one of them, no matter how long it takes.
I too do not have the same religious beliefs as these fellas, that doesn’t mean I don’t respect them. Passionate music like this should bring people together and not divide them based on their personal beliefs. I’ll have to look into what this song is about now that you mentioned it, thanks!
