Seriously? A leader doesn't mean being outspoken. A leader means he will protect the members. Shownu seems the most capable. Wonho got good talking skills but Shownu is the one who will actually stay by their side. Protecting hyungwon and I'M

Yes, Shownu is a great leader he doesn't really get a lot of the spotlight because he gives it to his members, he takes care of them first then himself, he's calm and cool and has good leadership, his group may not win during no.mercy but he showed an amazing performance with the group it's too bad not everyone can see how great of a person Shownu is.
Shownu is seriously the most underrated member of Monsta X. Just because Wonho's group won in No Mercy doesn't mean he's the better leader. When it comes down to it everyone had to perform for themselves. You can't blame the leader when someone makes a mistake and gets eliminated because of it. For example, when Yoonho forgot his line. That's not Shownu's fault, it was his and that's why the group lost and he was eliminated. When I.M came on No Mercy, Shownu told Seokwon to show him around because they were the same age, even though another member told Shownu not to force Seokwon into it. He was also the only person who understood I.M's position and told everyone it's not his fault. Wonho is too emotional and gets stressed too easy. Shownu knows how to balance everything and can handle situations better. Yeah he's camera shy, but that doesn't mean he's like that off camera. He's also the most humble and selfless person alive. He doesn't even introduce himself as Monsta X's leader, always talks about the members before himself, and he even gave some of his lines in "Beautiful" to Hyungwon. He always stands back so the other members can shine. You can tell that he's just genuinely happy to be apart of Monsta X and doesn't care about being front and center as long as everyone else is taken care of. This is what makes him the best leader for the group. Sorry, didn't mean for that to be so long.

I'm seeing a lot of old bad comments about Hyungwon and Minhyuk since they made it whereas Gun, Yoonho and Seokwon didn't. A lot of the comments are justified by "they are lacking", "they're less talented than __", and even mean ones. And although it's been a long time, I'd like to give my two cents about all this. I know it's harsh for fans to see their faves getting eliminated, and I know a lot of mean things were said in the spur of the moment, but look at what they've become! I'm so proud of them and they're all so talented and successful... I didn't want to watch No.Mercy because I tend to get too emotionally involved in this kind of shows so I don't know about how the other trainees. And from an outsider's point of view, I think the choice of the remaining candidates have been well thought and everyone who made it deserved their place. Now to people saying it's unfair that it was not a 100% fan vote, as someone said in a previous comment the company knows what they're doing and letting fans be the only judges to this kind of thing is too risky. There's things to consider when you want to form a group such as the different personalities of the members, their relationship with each other, the balance between members abilities/personalities etc. And while some may really get along (like Gun who was the mood maker and jooheon for example), such groups have to remain fairly professional. And there's surely a lot more of things having to be considered by the company, so in the end it's only logical that even though someone like Gun who had a lot of support from the fans didn't make it. Then about one's abilities compared to others': In my honest opinion, shows like No.Mercy always have at least a planned direction to follow (if not a planned ending but in this case I don't think so). Showing off the trainees in a competition like this is a way to gather people's opinion, but don't expect them to let the fans having control over the situation. It's a way of "testing the waters" and giving the most talented trainees a promo, even if they won't make it in the group (along with over dramatical techniques such as introducing I.M in the middle of the group and taking all these evil editing measures -like when they showed Minhyuk giving him the cold shoulder- all this were most likely scripted to spice up the game). I think that may have been the reason Gun didn't make it. He was really loved and talented, but it would be a problem for the group's balance if there were too many rappers (given the fact his rap was similar to Jooheon's). But it was a way to make him get some promo before eventually debuting solo. I mean starship has some really famous solo artists so it makes sense. I don't know about the others though. And honestly I don't really know how the industry works since there's systematically one or two members left out in a group like Hyungwon and Minhyuk, not getting much lines and screentime, but I think Hyungwon and Minhyuk weren't chosen for nothing. It's true that at their main quality at the time was their visuals/personality, but again I think it's a matter of balance. Hyungwon's dance is amazing and his vocal abilities are quite good. His personality is really loveable and well, visual king right here. Minhyuk is a great moodmaker and caretaker, his visuals are also on point, and his dancing and vocal skills are honestly good too. Now I don't know about the other trainees but I think it's not a matter of being more talented in a field, but more of being flexible and able to adjust (which is a huge quality that is equally as important as being super skilled in one domain) in HW and MH's cases since they're mainly visuals. That's why the balance is important in a group. And that's why I think they completely deserve their place among Monsta X. Not to mention one's abilities are likely to improve over time so that they can shine later on. It's part of the evolution of a group. They must be able to outdo themselves and be full of surprises, in this kind of industry. In my opinion, that's why it's not necessarily the most talented ones who are gonna debut, but the ones with the most potential (along with a wide range of abilities). It's all the more reason for thinking shows like No.Mercy are well thought out and in the end don't leave THAT much place to fan's opinions. In the end, t's the company who gets to decides, as professionals, what's best for them and for the future of a group. They've been around the trainees for long so obviously they know better than us what's best for a group's identity. And seeing how they are getting popular and successful over time, I think it's legitimate to say that yes, Hyungwon and Minhyuk are super talented and great idols despite everything, and that no one coud ever replace them in Monsta X 💖 (sorry for this long ass comment and for my poor english)

Minhyuk is my bias and watching No Mercy was a pain since he doesn't really get much attention or praise. Your whole comment was on point. I really appreciate it bc even MH said there were not a lot of comments about him. It makes me sad. This is the first positive comment about him that I saw under all of their pre debut shows. In their last performance, he was really good when he sang. But still it seems no one appreciated it. Even shownu said MH got the widest vocal range. It's true that a group should have balance and MH is one vital member since idols are not only about singing and dancing. They have to also be good in variety shows and I believe MH plays an important role there. His voice is also unique it's very good it's not like kihyun but hey singing is not all about high notes tho. As for hyungwon, even the judges say one member should stand out so a group doesn't need a lot of good dancers. Hyungwon's style is different from the others, I.M's style as well, so it makes the group interesting and not just a group with the same type of dancers. It makes them a team. One can cover up if the other members cannot. Anyway luv all the boys monbebe fighting!!

Nicole Byun Well, I guess that people thought that #GUN was good and since Hyungwon and Minhyuk didn't got tons of positive comments from the judges, I guess people are feeling unfair that they debuted, but not #GUN, since he was good too... But at this moment, if there was anybody to hate on, they should have hated on the judges or the public instead of the members. They all worked so hard, so I kind of feel that they shouldn't get all these hate.

They're so likeable. I.M seems to have a really good sense of humour and swag. Looking forward to that, along with Shownu's visual dilemma, Wonho's bluntness, Jooheon's aegyo, Hyungwon's chill attitude, Kihyun's shyness and Minhyuk's brightness and smelling habit. Can't wait for their debut album.

i just realized that Wonho was supposed to be leader b/c he has great leadership in this vid and during NO.Mercy, every team Wonho was in he won but the company told him the day before debut that Shownu was going to be leader instead. I don't mind the sudden change as it has been a year since their debut but I always wondered how Monsta X would be if he was leader though knowing Wonho thru TH-cam, he would take all the responsibility and burden b/c he wouldn't want the others to feel that way. So seeing Shownu as leader, I feel that Shownu and Wonho share that role seeing how when Shownu doesn't know something he would look at Wonho and he would make a smooth transition. Don't hate... Wonho got good speaking skills. But the real leader who stick with the members is Shownu. He is always by I'M side and even took on the burden of being visual. It's so odd to me watching this after becoming a fan of Monsta X and watching NO MERCY. It seems like they really had Wonho lined up for that leadership role and he handled it really well (at least from what I've seen in this episode and NO MERCY). I love Shownu being the leader of MX, it's just interesting to see how things change. Also, the day Wonho dyes his hair back to black I am going to cry of utter happiness.
I love IM's smile after he said thank you. It brightens up his usual gloomy appearance. I hope to see him smile more like that. When I started watching No Mercy and Deokspatch, Wonho became my bias. Then after Monsta Xray, it was Jooheon (the circle, square and star got me bad :x). Then after that it became IM. Now? I don't know anymore. This is one of those groups where it's hard to single stan because they all have certain charisma, talent, characteristic and appeal that is uniquely theirs. Aw. My hearteu. 😏😏

He doesn't even introduce himself as Monsta X's leader, always talks about the members before himself, and he even gave some of his lines in "Beautiful" to Hyungwon. He always stands back so the other members can shine. You can tell that he's just genuinely happy to be apart of Monsta X and doesn't care about being front and center as long as everyone else is taken care of. This is what makes him the best leader for the group. Sorry, didn't mean for that to be so long.

I'm seeing a lot of old bad comments about Hyungwon and Minhyuk since they made it whereas Gun, Yoonho and Seokwon didn't. A lot of the comments are justified by "they are lacking", "they're less talented than __", and even mean ones. And although it's been a long time, I'd like to give my two cents about all this.
I know it's harsh for fans to see their faves getting eliminated, and I know a lot of mean things were said in the spur of the moment, but look at what they've become! I'm so proud of them and they're all so talented and successful...
I didn't want to watch No.Mercy because I tend to get too emotionally involved in this kind of shows so I don't know about how the other trainees. And from an outsider's point of view, I think the choice of the remaining candidates have been well thought and everyone who made it deserved their place.
Now to people saying it's unfair that it was not a 100% fan vote, as someone said in a previous comment the company knows what they're doing and letting fans be the only judges to this kind of thing is too risky. There's things to consider when you want to form a group such as the different personalities of the members, their relationship with each other, the balance between members abilities/personalities etc. And while some may really get along (like Gun who was the mood maker and jooheon for example), such groups have to remain fairly professional. And there's surely a lot more of things having to be considered by the company, so in the end it's only logical that even though someone like Gun who had a lot of support from the fans didn't make it.
Then about one's abilities compared to others': In my honest opinion, shows like No.Mercy always have at least a planned direction to follow (if not a planned ending but in this case I don't think so). Showing off the trainees in a competition like this is a way to gather people's opinion, but don't expect them to let the fans having control over the situation. It's a way of "testing the waters" and giving the most talented trainees a promo, even if they won't make it in the group (along with over dramatical techniques such as introducing I.M in the middle of the group and taking all these evil editing measures -like when they showed Minhyuk giving him the cold shoulder- all this were most likely scripted to spice up the game).
I think that may have been the reason Gun didn't make it. He was really loved and talented, but it would be a problem for the group's balance if there were too many rappers (given the fact his rap was similar to Jooheon's). But it was a way to make him get some promo before eventually debuting solo. I mean starship has some really famous solo artists so it makes sense. I don't know about the others though.
And honestly I don't really know how the industry works since there's systematically one or two members left out in a group like Hyungwon and Minhyuk, not getting much lines and screentime, but I think Hyungwon and Minhyuk weren't chosen for nothing. It's true that at their main quality at the time was their visuals/personality, but again I think it's a matter of balance. Hyungwon's dance is amazing and his vocal abilities are quite good. His personality is really loveable and well, visual king right here. Minhyuk is a great moodmaker and caretaker, his visuals are also on point, and his dancing and vocal skills are honestly good too. Now I don't know about the other trainees but I think it's not a matter of being more talented in a field, but more of being flexible and able to adjust (which is a huge quality that is equally as important as being super skilled in one domain) in HW and MH's cases since they're mainly visuals. That's why the balance is important in a group. And that's why I think they completely deserve their place among Monsta X. Not to mention one's abilities are likely to improve over time so that they can shine later on. It's part of the evolution of a group. They must be able to outdo themselves and be full of surprises, in this kind of industry. In my opinion, that's why it's not necessarily the most talented ones who are gonna debut, but the ones with the most potential (along with a wide range of abilities). It's all the more reason for thinking shows like No.Mercy are well thought out and in the end don't leave THAT much place to fan's opinions.
In the end, t's the company who gets to decides, as professionals, what's best for them and for the future of a group. They've been around the trainees for long so obviously they know better than us what's best for a group's identity. And seeing how they are getting popular and successful over time, I think it's legitimate to say that yes, Hyungwon and Minhyuk are super talented and great idols despite everything, and that no one coud ever replace them in Monsta X 💖

This comment was 2 years ago and I just want to agree. I am new to the fandom and I totally agree. Minhyuk is my bias and watching No Mercy was a pain since he doesn't really get much attention or praise. Your whole comment was on point. I really appreciate it bc even MH said there were not a lot of comments about him. It makes me sad. This is the first positive comment about him that I saw under all of their pre debut shows. In their last performance, he was really good when he sang. But still it seems no one appreciated it. Even shownu said MH got the widest vocal range. It's true that a group should have balance and MH is one vital member since idols are not only about singing and dancing. They have to also be good in variety shows and I believe MH plays an important role there. His voice is also unique it's very good it's not like kihyun but hey singing is not all about high notes tho. As for hyungwon, even the judges say one member should stand out so a group doesn't need a lot of good dancers. Hyungwon's style is different from the others, I.M's style as well, so it makes the group interesting and not just a group with the same type of dancers. It makes them a team. One can cover up if the other members cannot.

They all worked so hard, so I kind of feel that they shouldn't get all these hate.

i just realized that Wonho was supposed to be leader b/c he has great leadership in this vid and during NO.Mercy, every team Wonho was in he won but the company told him the day before debut that Shownu was going to be leader instead. I don't mind the sudden change as it has been a year since their debut but I always wondered how Monsta X would be if he was leader though knowing Wonho thru TH-cam, he would take all the responsibility and burden b/c he wouldn't want the others to feel that way. So seeing Shownu as leader, I feel that Shownu and Wonho share that role seeing how when Shownu doesn't know something he would look at Wonho and he would make a smooth transition.

That is exactly what I think too. I'm trying to get ovet the fact that both #gun and Seokwon got eliminated. I rooted for them for a long time, but I also have to accept the fact that the ones who are about to debut went through the same exact path as them, the same fight, the same difficulties, and the same heartbreak. We should all try to support them, since we saw that they've went through a lot as well. We shouldn't dig on the pain of who lost anymore. We should be over that and patiently wait for those who didn't make it, try again.

It's so odd to me watching this after becoming a fan of Monsta X and watching NO MERCY. It seems like they really had Wonho lined up for that leadership role and he handled it really well (at least from what I've seen in this episode and NO MERCY). I love Shownu being the leader of MX, it's just interesting to see how things change.

When I started watching No Mercy and Deokspatch, Wonho became my bias. Then after Monsta Xray, it was Jooheon (the circle, square and star got me bad :x). Then after that it became IM. Now? I don't know anymore. This is one of those groups where it's hard to single stan because they all have certain charisma, talent, characteristic and appeal that is uniquely theirs. Aw. My hearteu. 😏😏
