Is not 1 John 1:9 written to expose Gnosticism which was prevalent during that time as a false teaching? Saying Christ did not come in flesh he is of Spirit and so what ever we do with flesh has nothing to do with spirit, so there is no sin in us, and to counter such teaching John is addressing Gnostic Jews in the verses 1-3 where he says they touched Him! Saying so I do not advocate that we shall encourage sinning, which Paul clearly talks in Romans 5,6,7,8... I feel the context and time to whom the epistle is written must be addressed while interpreting. Thank you!

All that I was saying was that verse might have been addressed to Gnostic Jews and those who already believed Christ need have a right standing with God by believing what their status in Christ is after being born again, Romans 5,6,7,8 chapters.
