You should have been part of the imagineer team! I agree with you 100% there are those that think that this show is “spectacular” and “amazing” when in reality it wasn’t. Then there are those that say “don’t listen to the negative viewpoint they are just haters.” This presentation was a letdown for many Disney fans and I do hope they bring HEA back because the new one missed the mark.

I've seen so many comments saying how much better "Happily Ever After" was by comparison to this show. But for me... this was something truly incredible.
Truth be told, I'm 34 years old right now and my first real trip to Disney World was last year. I'd only been there once when I was maybe 3 or 4, so naturally I didn't remember much of it. Luckily I have an amazing friend who saved up dozens of free gift cards from his job and used them to give me my first trip to the Magic Kingdom. We did virtually everything possible throughout a 12 hour day, and among the things we capped off the night with was this fireworks show.
I know the consensus for this one isn't very positive, but this was pure awe and joy for me. For someone who never got to experience anything like this, it was nothing short of beautiful and inspiring. Being such a huge Disney fan my entire life, I desperately fought back tears watching it. It took a perfect day and made it that much more important to me.
Whenever you think of how much you miss the old show, try and remember that this will always be someone's first. It may not resonate with you personally, but to someone out there... it's magic.

Love your comment, I had been to Disney once before this last April and got to take my wife and 5 year old daughter this time for her first time. As soon as the lady sang make a wish upon a star and the firework went across tears filled my eyes because my little girl looked so happy in that moment and it was pure magic as a parent. I loved this show and yes Happily Ever After looked great as well but that moment to me will forever be in my mind and I have this fireworks show to thank for it.

Don't worry. I loved this show as well. I also liked Fantasy in the Sky and Wishes. I hate HEA. Lol I leave the park during it. And the thing is the show definitely overstayed it's welcome at 6 years now. 😂 People can argue all they want. This show was more impressive than HEA visually and better fireworks. My mom has been to the MK since 71 and said the same. The only thing I think people didn't like was the randomness of it all, but that's true of every MK show.

I thought this was going to be about the Disneyworld parks.
Starting with Hooray for Hollywood representing the great movie ride. And spotlights shine on the castle during the "first hoo-ray for Hollywood!" Followed soon after by muppets, Indiana Jones, Twilight Zone, Rock n' Rollercoaster, star wars, etc. After that, we hear "And...Action!", putting us straight into a lights, motors, action stunt show segment with fire and red fireworks racing through the sky, with the segment ending with "And...Cut!". And on Cut, there is a huge ball of fire exploding on the castle like from woc with that one huge flamethrower.
Then going through Epcot and with a melody of songs from test track and the pavilions before ending with we go on from illuminations. With the same finale as well with white fireworks going off around the castle.
After that we would go to Animal Kingdom and start with the sunrise scene from lion king with the sun rising behind a silouette of the tree of life. Before going through the kilamajaro safari, Avatar, Everest etc. Maybe putting a Tarzan segment in there for good measure.
And finishing with MK. With a mashup between HEA's theme and Wishes's Main theme. With the final singing of "dreams come true", and as the shooting star fireworks go over the castle, HEA's last "Happily ever after" plays with a "fake finale" (Like how go the distance was used from HEA before ending with the "actual" main theme of this show. And Before the finale fireworks go off, Julie Andrews says "And remember...it all started with a mouse.

"So you've managed to create a dull castle firework show?"
    "Yes"
    "What did it cost?"
    "Happily Ever After"
Not gonna lie, felt like I traveled back in time to the 90s when I heard the beginning of You Are the Magic, which I quite like. But when it comes to shows debuting during anniversaries, both Disneyland and Shanghai take the cake. If you're gonna flex your latest IPs, just take a look at what Shanghai has. A full-on IP showcase with a great flow and Avengers segment that gets you in the feels. For a resort as major as WDW, and a celebration as major as the 50th, this is a disappointing show to debut on the castle

It's pretty but lacks heart. I agree with what a lot of people are saying--it feels like a bunch of random sequences mashed together. HEA had a very clear narrative: original opening centered around the excitement of starting something new. The Evening Star song leading into the "I want" songs--now that you're ready to start, what is it you are yearning to achieve, and the hopefulness that you'll make it. Merida kicks off the "We're going to do it and nothing will stop me section" section. "Friend Like Me" tells us that we're not on our journey alone, and we're going to bring family and friends along for the ride (when the castle sings at the end, it's like saying all of Disney is on your team). The "Love is an Open Door" song starts a section about the even stronger bonds of family, and the possibility of growing to learn about romantic love. Then the PERFECT transition (I mean, the timing of Mulan shooting the cannon is insanity) into the Mulan quote about how adversity spurs growth--then SHOWING the conflicts each character had to face on their journey towards their end goal (featuring some of the terrifying scenes in Disney movies). The pirates section pushes us to triumph! The fight was hard but we won! And then from the literal ashes, we lift ourselves up and keep moving forward, remembering how those experiences got us to where we are now (our happily ever after!) Then the closing song: You watched Disney characters do it, now it's your turn!
Enchantment feels like someone watched HEA and tried to copy it with different music and sequences without understanding that the show had real story with a beginning, middle and and. HEA feels like a labor of love. Enchantment feels like something that was hastily thrown together for the sake of having something different for the 50th. It's not bad, but it's not magic.

  • @michaelwilkinson5700
    @michaelwilkinson5700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +309

Is it just me, or does it seem like random projections placed over mismatched music, with bad transitions, fireworks that sync to nothing and forced overacted narration? Why no actual songs from the films, instead of just music samples that don't match the projection? Even Tinkerbell appeared with no build up, like they couldn't find a spot for her but knew they had to fit her in. I'm guessing there were tears, but not for the same reason as HEA.

    So, as someone who has never seen these shows in person and with my first ever visit planned for last year, I tried my best when watching vlogs etc to avoid seeing them so I didn’t ruin the surprise and I wanted feel all the emotions in person in real time. But of course our trip got cancelled so today I thought I would finally watch Happily Ever after seeing as I’ll never see it in person. To understand hype I decided to watch Wishes first then Happily Ever After and after seeing the negative feedback, intrigue got the better of me and ended here, and this I will say;
Wishes - It was ok, I liked the underlying concept and it was clear and carried through. But knowing that projections on the castle were to come I found it a little boring. But I can imagine at the time this was a great and impressive fireworks show.
Happily Ever After - I GET IT! Just WOW…. just like Wishes the concept was clear. When people say they cry watching it… I was right there! But I know why I felt that. It showcased every moment in Disney films that really made you feel for the character and the songs that made the movie, the crescendo’s, the lot. The projections were just incredible and the way it used the castle, amazing. I will say however, with everything going on on the castle, I barely noticed the fireworks, it’s almost like they weren’t necessary. It was nostalgic and heart warming and was the montage of all things that make Disney, Disney, it evoked all the right emotions. Knowing now I’ll never see it in person is heart breaking.
Enchantment - If I’d have gone from watching Wishes to this, I would have been impressed, but was was it even about?! The name of the show does not match what they were trying to portray. I just didn’t get it, or the feels. I thought the fireworks were more impressive than Happily Ever After. But as for the projections, I hated the way that when they showed characters it felt like they were using the castle as a flat piece of paper, unlike HEA where the castle was used to frame them and look like they were right there in the castle. I wouldn’t go as far as to say I hate the whole this, it was just ok, but it just lacked so much emotion and I totally agree that for the 50th and in comparison to HEA it was disappointingly underwhelming!!
And that’s my review that no one asked for 😅

Honestly, Enchantment felt like it was trying too hard to be Disneyland Forever, but it miserably failed, and instead ended up being a jumbled mess of Disney IPs with no cohesive storyline or underlying message. Barely nothing relating to WDW’s 50 years. Felt like it dragged because of how boring it was in some parts, but it’s around the same time lenght as HEA.
Yeah… this is a big L for the WDW parks. All three shows felt like they were rushed to completion.

After a re-watch, I actually don't hate this show. I appreciate what they're trying to do with collecting all the stories that are partly why we love the Magic Kingdom so much. Is it lacking in an overarching story? Yeah. Do the songs with lyrics sound like somebody handed some fans a microphone and told them to sing along? Unfortunately. Do I wish there were some voiceovers or some other sort of tribute to Walt/Mickey? Absolutely. There are lots of things about this show that could be tightened up and polished. However, in the context of an anniversary celebration, it makes sense to focus on the stories and characters that give the park so much life, and some of the projections are truly magical (the pyro coordinating with Into the Unknown was beautiful).
It's no Happily Ever After or Wishes, but those shows were damn near perfect and, as a result, damn near impossible to beat.

I felt nothing, there was no story, and the music and projections were painfully mediocre. It had nothing to do with Disney World, despite the fact that it’s supposed to be celebrating WDW’s 50th anniversary, and felt like it dragged on forever. I saw HEA dozens of times, but no matter how many, it always blew me away and really made me FEEL. It was always a thrill and a joy, and I was always sad when it was over.
Host tells you to go on a journey to find your magic. First song is the aspirational song of what you want to do despite all the naysayers. Second song is the start of the journey. Then the next four songs symbolize the unexpected surprises(be our guest), celebrations (under the sea), New friendship you make(toy story), and love (whole new world) you find on this journey. Then just when you find your magic and soar higher(peterpan), you get the hero song(into the unknown), follows by the villain song crashing your hopes. Then we get the redemption pick me up song (I am moana) and then finale. I think it has just as strong of a story as HEA.

But every time that I watched a video or a blog of happily ever after I cried. It was moving. It touched your emotions. Replacing happily ever after with this new show is a mistake on Disney's behalf. Whose idea was it to approve the show? Thank you, Craig!! Your Happily Ever After video is the Gold Standard and I knew you’d nail this one, too. You’re bringing the Magic to so many of us that can’t be there! 💜
Edited to add: Gosh, I miss Happily Ever After! 😢 Where was Tink? Where were the single-cannon shots over the castle that start every Disney movie? Where were the tears? Where was the Magic? WHAT JUST HAPPENED??
Happily Ever After was the 50th Anniversary show we all wanted and needed. THIS should have been the “filler” show that led up to HEA for the diamond anniversary. #kitetails

Okay, I know I'm not there in person however I don't feel any emotional connection to this firework show. Like at all. I know the Disney Imagineers worked a lot on it but Bob and his team have missed one important quality the last couple of months, Listening to feedback from their audience!! We all love Disney for what it is, now it's missing a whole magical side. It really upsets me how much it bothers me but I think we all should start something new for Disney to listen to about what we don't like and what qualities make Walt Disney World & Disneyland special. I'm excited for the 50th anniversary so hopefully, I can see the show for myself next year when I visit but for right now, they need to read their comments and focus on what their Disney fans really want.

I can't say I like this. It's not because it's new or old. But wether it's well done or not. I loved the lyrics of Happily Ever After the FIRST time I heard it. And that was YEARS after it premiered. And when I saw the firework show on TH-cam for the first time I was moved to tears. It was impressive, inspiring, and it had a story and morale that made you want to continue and never give up to find your Happily Ever After. This one on the other hand, and I say this respectfully, is a disappointment. It doesn't have a story, that inspires you from beginning to end, and the segments don't connect naturally. And I tried to like it. I really wanted to like it. But it just doesn't have a storyline, a main idea, or different parts of movies that connect to a main idea. And the fireworks weren't even half as impressive as in Happily Ever After. It just seems to be a jumble of movies and songs just to put them up there and promote new films. And this is shorter by well over 7 minutes than Happily Ever After including the silent times. The expectations were set high after Happily Ever After AND it is the 50th Anniversary, so one would expect the biggest, greatest, most emotional, inspiring firework show for such a special event. And this is not it. And I am so sad that it wasn't impressive. You are welcome to disagree. This is my observation.

I was at the final wishes performance the next day the first happily ever after. I’m glad I didn’t travel to see this. Disney has some of the most unbelievable special music and lyrics ever why would they use bad covers of the songs? When I was watching happily ever after for the first time I stood there with my mouth open realized here as well coming down my face. I stood there in disbelief of what they had done. Granted I wasn’t there and just watched on TV but this made me sad , it makes no sense and has nothing to do with a 50th anniversary. Be brave and admit your mistakes Disney it’s time for new leader ship I can’t believe that the imagine he is in the creative people at Disney thought this was a good way to go.

It's a no from me, dawg: Where do I begin? Well I guess, Once Upon a Time...2015 was the first time I ever saw FANTASMIC at Hollywood Studios and I was blown away by the magic of it all! Until then, I only ever enjoyed night time shows as "the fireworks" (as ppl most do). But this felt different; from there I fell down the TH-cam rabbit hole of Disney night time spectaculars. Of all the shows I came across, hands down I fell in love with Disney Dreams! (Paris) For me, the score was absolutely glorious! HORNS! I WANT HORNS! I was totally impressed by the use of water jets in the moat, water screens, flame throwers, and a bevy of pyro loaded ON the castle. It's the kind of magic I was hoping over the years would come to Orlando. HEA (imo) was a great replacement to the classic WISHES show at Magic Kingdom, the projections were royal, regal, and dazzling. Maybe not the most inspired score, but very easy to listen to! ENCHANTMENT was laboring to listen to. Why does everyone only sing in two styles: Billie Eilish OR Bubblegum Pop voice? YIKES! Call me old fashioned but I think arrangements for classical choral parts is way better and more on brand with with catalogue. It didn't make me reflect on the last 50 years at all. "It was all started by a mouse"... was it? You'd never know with this show. I VERY MUCH DISLIKE the finale. It's almost the exact same pyro as HEA except with fewer shots coming from castle. I remember FEELING that finale when I was in the park and I still FEEL it when I hear the audio. ENCHANTMENT: WHERE IS THE BUTTON?! I always flashback to a clip of Steve Davison saying about a show (paraphrasing) "give them everything and just when they think it's all, give them more" 50 years, Disney? I expected more...

I just don't personally see the point in replacing Happily Ever After. It seems to me like they had this song and they thought "ooh we can use this as the anthem for the 50th celebration, but we need someway to play it in the parks, let's just make a new fireworks show cause that's cheaper". I wish they would have spent the time and money to work on entertainment that actually NEEDS upgrading like Fantasmic, or even a new daytime or nighttime parade (however with covid I don't think they are doing those). It doesn't have to be huge changes, just adding in new sections to Fantasmic with new characters or new costumes, or new floats to Festival of Fantasy.

Wishes and Happily Ever After were inspirational, nostalgic, and caused the viewer to self reflect. They spoke "humanity". It had the classic magical vibe of Disney. Enchantment seems like it was created from a group of people with competing opinions on it's creation. The visuals are great, but there is no story it's just pretty images strung together, but the overall show is a mishmash of random pieces that often didn't belong together or transition well. The narrator's voice is too deep to be heard crisp and clearly over the audio. Overall, it's not great, but the biggest failure is the soundtrack. Did these creators even work together? Or did they bring separate parts together? There's no synergy here. I took particular issue with the beginning message "the magic is you". Really Disney? The magic is your customer but you are treating us so poorly as of late. That stung given the current state of the retail/customer relations right now with Disney Parks/CEO's bad choices. This is the first show I will not stay at the park to see. Sadly the magic is dimmed and dimming more over time.

    Fantastic video Craig, as always!
The show, however....wow. How sad, underwhelming, and dare I say it? Boring. HEA would make me literally weep in several places. Namely hearing Robin Williams' brilliant voice, Mufasa reminding us all that we are more than what we've become, and Tinkerbell taking flight at the exact right time. That show had a message. It reminded us all that, no matter what we were facing, we could rise above and reach our dreams if we pushed ourselves. Every part of that show was deliberately thought out and pulled out emotions every single time. I get goosebumps and get choked up just telling people about the show.
While I do not want to detract from the people who I'm sure put a lot of hard work into this show, it is just so uninspired. It seemed very rushed and evoked zero emotion. There didn't seem to be much thought behind timing of fireworks. And why just send Tinkerbell out there like that? With no build up? I'm so confused. Disney deserved better than this for the 50th. To echo sentiments from other commenters, they should have just added some scenes to HEA. I'm very sad this will be the show my parents will see in January.
