I totally agree with Alan’s philosophies on acting. I think it’s important to learn different techniques but most acting is just an expression of yourself as a human being.
Just started listening and thinking what he ends up saying, that this overthinking of acting seems to be more prevalent in America. Bill Nighy talks similarly about it and I completely relate.
Overthinking is bad in life generally. The core thing is worrying. Just stop worrying about whatever and you’ll be good or use this anxiety as an impetus I.e go again the stream
That's a very Laurence Olivier way of seeing things. Works for him. Doesn't work for others. Daniel Day Lewis, Dustin Hoffman, Marlon Brando... so many others, do not share this view. And that's ok. There are many ways to skin a cat.
Ana Belen Coronel Awful school with no in-depth training. It's all over the place with no sole method to keep the actors grounded and capable of using a technique to practice their acting. Save your money.
Alan, my fellow Scot, a dinosaur doesn't breathe fire, the dragon does though so when you say when a child plays at being a dinosaur, oh! yes it has a fiery breath, it's not quite right . Just nit-picking here. Thought he was great in the Good Wife.
Excellent! So glad to hear such a top actor cutting out the bullshit and laying it out straight as it is!
this explains why he's such a brilliant actor
Acting is Doing, the craft of acting is the use of the things you do to tell a story.
ohhh god finally someone said this.
I’m definitely an over thinker and that’s why I don’t believe myself while playing.
SAME i just need ways to fix it
Wow! So real and inspiring, overthinking is a crime of everything it’s true.
A heartfelt spiritual approach on acting that resonates deeply. Beautifully honest and transparent. Bravo

Brilliant. Thank you Alan (and BAFTA).
I love this. Overthinking makes acting less fun. Thanks Alan for speaking out. 🙏❤️

I'm so in love with Alan Cummings
I needed to hear this man
love hearing his thoughts, so down to earth
This Was A Absolute brilliant Perspective!
I’m not a cheese, I have no process. I am absolutely using this from now on!😂
Alan has opened my eyes. Thank you!
He performed at my school, I met him... definitely overthought that moment 🤤
Brilliant Alan Cumming!
Terrific performance. Brilliant explanation.
Wise words from Floop
wow gosh your breath is so fiery
Sacha Trehorel don't think just do
Lovely humble guy, and versatile actor; and he hails not far from me too. Great seeing him do so well.
I love how he confuses dinosaurs with dragons hahaha! Some great wisdom though, thank you.
Wow this is a really helpful Interview. Thankyou. 😍

The first time I saw Alan in a film it was in his tiny role in Eyes Wide Shut, and I thought, "Holy shit, this guy is great!"
Although the fact his role took a week to shoot is too much.
"I am INVINCIBLE!!"
when he said, "don't be such a wuss" i felt that
between Alan Cumming's role l liked so much was when he played Kurt wagner's character in X- men, what another movie should l watch of him?
sebastian alegria Any Day Now 😀
absolute icon
I like people that talk straight.
Say what they mean and mean what they say
I am invincible
He's like Florence Henderson. She came to NYC, got a chorus job two weeks later, got a starring role a year after that and never stopped working.
So talented & odest!
Thanks for the tips about directors!
Thoughtful person. Not sure why we, as a society, put actors on such pedestals. They are just people doing a job.
🦻🧏 mix in the volume?
Why does he have 17 accents?
awesome hahah
Love it
How does one graduate from the academy ?
Brilliant last line
I meant to write ‘modest’
That jojo is just being himself in the movies. LOL
Great movie, Any Day Now!! Grab the Kleenex, you’ll need them!! I balled my eyes out!

Or maybe those style actors are just kidding themselves.
Who the hell disliked it
💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Is the academy he's talking about is the American Academy of Dramatic Arts?
He was talking about the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama which is now called the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
Ana Belen Coronel why would you think that he's clearly not American u Americans are always trying to take credit for everything

It could be more better if he said go in that character rather than let that character come in.
😕it's OK men??😨
He should have been dr who. Jesus.
Too talented for that show right now, the show is quite bad right now
@jonathanblake6130 and it still is 5 years after your comment..
