I posted this in another comment - but a night or two before filming this video, I put some KA on for Chi and told him how KA is a one man army when it comes to the bars, the raps, directing his own videos - everything. Chi immediately sent him a DM letting him know he respects the art.
watched this on repeat a few times in the early hours. It's chilling. The world is missing a much needed soul, someone who brings a reality and balance to everything, someone who speaks our language, someone who in my eyes never got a fair shot. You're missed Chino!!
Been thinking about Chino a lot. Thank you Sunil, rebel armz all day! Will be supporting the record and whatever the fam needs. Rip Chi, we miss you more than words can describe. Love this.
Chino XL's passing has been a difficult time for me as a fan and human. I don't typically feel this way about a celebrity death I did not know personally but Chi's passing is different for me. It has stayed with me since the news was released and has truly hurt my heart. After the unfortunate news - I dwelved deep into Chinos discography and started studying it more deeply and taking all his lyrics in more and started dissecting them. One thing to just point out is most artists deteriorate over time and lose there skills or care for music quality. It is rare to see an artist get better and better after each album and in my opinion - Darkness and Other Colors was Chinos most personal and best album and final piece of art he left for us in this world. It is here after re-listening to all his past albums - that I discovered that this man was suffering since his first release and seemed to be shouting for help or telling the world at least what he was dealing with. It seems Chino never truly got a fair shake in this world - from his childhood abuse to his own blood parents treating him badly since he was a child per his own lyrics. I cannot imagine growing up as child struggling financially while your only protectors in this world abuse you and mistreat you. Then you see Chi enter the music industry at 16 years old signed by RICK RUBIN. This in itself should of launched Chino for many years but instead all of his powerful work on Here To Save You All was shadowed by one unfortunate lyric on one song which seemed to follow him for years. From there Chi had issues with his 2nd album being released and by the time it was released - his fire in the moment had gone out being over powered by other acts releasing that year. That album I Told You So is amazing from front to back lyrically and production wise holds it own. From there Chi experiences musical struggles and financial struggles it seems for the remainder of his life. To find out he then has to deal with his youngest daughter being diagnosed with Cancer at 10 years old - thankfully she beat it - but I cannot imagine the pain he felt as a father. After this Chino tells us through his lyrics that his wife mistreated him and left him in a bad position with his daughters. Another life hit on a man that seemed to carry a dark cloud over him in life - not by his choice. Fast forward a few years later - and the rapper who seemed the most fit and in shape compared to may artists today - is then diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer and has life long depression. Listening to Darkness and Other Colors has been eye opening - as it seems it was Chino's final letter to the world that took a few years to write. I say all this as a deep fan who truly weeps for Chino XL, his family, and Chinos soul. I pray he is at peace and finds the rest he well deserved in this world. It saddens me to see Chino truly did not get his beyond well deserved flowers while he was still with us. It blows my mind that someone as genius as Chino was and being a literal member for MENSA never was truly recognized by other artists. I hope Chino's soul is resting now and in a better place. The world was not fair to Chino and what makes me admire him even more - is the fact he was a truly positive soul uplifting others. I hope Chino knows how much of a mark he left on us and hopefully his story can save another person's life. I will miss you Chino and pray for peace for you, your family, and your soul. The world lost a one of a kind artist that we will not see again for a very long time. People like Chino XL's soul and spirit visit our world once in a blue moon and we will not see that sort of energy for a very long time if not ever again. I will personally make sure to always spread your music, message, and knowledge for my time on this earth. Rest well Chi, my heart is in pain for you. Rest in Peace Derek Keith Barbosa aka Chino XL. 🕊️🕯️✌️🙏
@sacristan679 Good point my friend - it's a reflection of the world and the times we're in - Real Art + Spirituality + Belief in God has been lost in our society today. I'm not necessarily surprised more then I'm sad and disappointed that he left us without any major recognition. That is why the sparks in this world - that come through souls like Chino XL - inspire me and good to see your also spiritually aware. Thanks for your reply.
@@SDR213thank you for all your efforts Sunil and keeping Chi's memory alive for us fans - as we will do the same for his spirit and soul - keeping him in mind. Your words moved me and I am now researching more about ChardiKala....thank you brother
I often say this alot but I've been a FAN since the video "Kreep" and his album "Here to save you all". Because at one point he really felt like at the time he could lyrically save hip hop! The effort was very VALIANT and grabbed the world's attention! He definitely grabbed mine! His first 2 albums are my favorites. I really started to feel bad for him when I listened to songs like "Water" and "Heavenly father". Then I took him even more seriously! I listened to the project "God's carpenter ". Never lost his step, he just sounded different and at times rapped faster. Seeing this video for the first time is insightful and very eerie! But never knew he made this video before his passing. It would've been an amazing experience to see you in concert or even better in person. The only time I will is in the afterlife I thank you for your HEAVY contribution to hip hop and for making my young adulthood go right! May you rip Derek Keith Barbosa 1974-2024🙏!
Thank U for sharing - his ability to write things that the ordinary mind couldn't even fathom only grew - his skillset only got sharper as time went on. Be sure to check his last guest appearance before passing 'Pendulum Swing' from the Rakim EP ''Gods Network'' - he left Earth with that verse.
