    Nice hat! My dad was a dealer back in the early nineties in Level Plains AL. His business was called Level Plains farm and garden. Great memories! Keep up the good work.

      Do y’all have any Level Plains Farm and Garden caps still laying around? I collect ag related caps, the rarer the better.

    Great video! We used to have the two wheels on the back of our planner also and it does exactly what you said it does it is nice to use one wheel setup for your planner!

    • @PatrickShivers
      @PatrickShivers  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the ground is completely free of clods and obstacles (fresh tilled sandy loam) the twin wheel setup can’t be beat, if the ground has clods (basically any clay soil) the cotton wheels are the ticket

    Here in Eastern North Carolina. We had four mornings in a row in the 20s and a big frost. No one hasn't started planting yet. Today was 89 degrees so getting close

      I recorded a scene just for you with the camera mounted on front of the tractor as I was leaving field and shutting down on the throttle. It didn’t make the final cut as it was black dark outside and the bright lights of tractor washed out everything.

      We’re supposed to get some T-storms and rain, but not much has materialized yet. All the corn is in the ground, just finished getting green bean field ready

    Patrick...Great job explaining why you do what you do. Did you get to plant any sweet peas?

    • @PatrickShivers
      @PatrickShivers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not yet. Them and the green beans are going to be late. The green beans will still do fine, the sweet peas may have issues with to much heat.

    We had 3 john Deere to 12 row and 18 row

    • @PatrickShivers
      @PatrickShivers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Where I’m at most farms have one or two 12 row planters. I haven’t seen or heard of anyone in tristate area running bigger than 12. 6 row are actually starting to comeback and be more and more common.

    • @MarshallLanier
      @MarshallLanier 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PatrickShivers6 row is the predominant planter in this area of east central Georgia, mainly because most farmers hook them in tandem with a 6 row strip till, usually a KMC or Unverferth.
      12 row can cover a lot of ground but it usually means making 2 trips across the field, so it works out about equal, time wise.

    • @PatrickShivers
      @PatrickShivers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MarshallLanier those are popular south of here where the ground gets sandier. In our clay we have to have time between strip till and planter b/c fresh moist clay sticks to planter gauge wheels.

    I watch 4 farming channels with operations similar to yours, when you guys load your planters seed always goes into the front yellow bin on each row. What goes in the rear bin?

    • @PatrickShivers
      @PatrickShivers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Granular Pesticide. They are not always used, but when they are the stuff that goes in them will kill an animal within a step or two and then kill the buzzard that eats the dead animal before it can get 6’ away

  • @kevinmccarthy4099

    😂why do you need the extra wide gage wheels on planter units. Never see that up north

    • @PatrickShivers
      @PatrickShivers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Running duals on the gauge wheels is a southern thing. Singles sometimes push in sandy areas instead of rolling so we add duals to increase the traction and force them to roll.

    What monitoring system do you have on your planter? Seedstar?

    • @PatrickShivers
      @PatrickShivers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Whatever is standard on the 1720 XP. It pops up automatically on the greenstar screen when the electrical hookup is plugged in.
