@Taksa Rawdpai We'll notice he targeted the brit first. Old habits die hard, even in the post-apocalyptic cultural melting-pot cyberpunk future of the City.
Yeah. Yi Sang uses a ton of puns in his dialog that don't translate well into english, but the dude is always cracking puns involving his name. His name has a bunch of homonyms in Korean, which if you didn't know are words that sound the same but have different meanings, like lie(to lay down) and lie(a false statement). The homonyms have meanings like "more than", "strange", "Ideal", and he quite often ends his sentences with another meaning "That is all". So any time you see him talking about one thing being more than another, being unusual or strange, something's quality compared to it's ideal/perfect quality, or ends his sentence with "that is all", he's making puns. Which, as you can probably hear, Meursault uses the same puns back at him. A more literal translation I saw said it would be "Yi Sang, are you trying to cook like your namesake(ideally), or is it your "ideal" to cook "strange" food so perfectly/ideally that it makes my teeth rot. That is all." Four clear puns, with a quite clever 5th one in mentioning the teeth rot. Teeth is Yi, and the verb for "to cause rot" is Sanghage, so saying them in a sentence makes it sound like his name, "yi sang"hage. I love the image of Yi Sang, this giga-brain genius who rarely ever speaks, but when he does, he doesn't stop making puns left and right with a completely dead straight face. Which just makes this even more hilarious, as it's the same exact thing, but instead it's Meursault doing it, and doing it to roast Yi Sang.
About tons of puns about Yi Sang - Yi Sang (이상) is name but also means strange, ideal, above. Also Yi(E, 이) means teeth; Sang(상) used as verb means hurted. Pun about Yi Sang happens everywhere (when anyone talks about ideal or strange thing Yi Sang came in and says "pardon me").
