I always love Obama's book and music lists! I've only read James and Martyr!, but they were both excellent. Several other books on his list are in my TBR list.
Yes, same here! Have read James and Martyr!….want to read God of the Woods. I always feel good when I see my reading overlaps with his, (in even a small way)!
I am so happy Help Wanted was on his list. It's a great book that doesn't seem to be getting the attention it deserves - in the United States or internationally. Highly recommend it!
I am halfway through "Everyone Who is Gone Is Here". Heartbreaking and necessary is what I can say about it so far. It should be read by all of us - Left and Right.
Several are in my TBR list. I actually just recently finished the Jonathan Blitzer book about Central America and the border crisis and would highly recommend.
I’ve read God of the Woods and despite its length it reads really fast! It’s got short chapters and the pacing does a great job of keeping you engaged. Don’t be put off too much by the size ❤
@@EricKarlAnderson Yes I'd agree with this comment. It didn't really seem that long to me. I enjoyed it - a bit of police procedural to it in parts, but not too much of that. I enjoyed the main female investigator character.
I'm actually pretty impressed with his list this year. His picks have always been a sort of hit or miss for me with me liking about half of them and not liking the other half but all of these are either really solid books I've already read or books that sound interesting. : )
I just took a deep dive into two memoirs. Erin French’s Finding Freedom. And, Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime. Also, Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library. Thank you for your review of Barack Obama’s “Summer Reading List”. It’s always noteworthy!
Knowing what Obama reads is inspirational. Its fascinating knowing what such a talented, intellectual man is taking in. Can you imagine Donald Trump's reading list???
Interesting this is the second Liz Moore book to make Obama’s list. I think Long Bright River was on it a few years ago…which I thought was excellent. I then tried The Unseen World, which was just ok for me. Excited to try this one!
Two of those are on my newest tbr. I don't read much new fiction but I can't ignore all the buzz around James and The Ministry of Time. I did see that one of the authors uses the name Robinson, so I wonder is she related to former First Lady Michelle Obama? I believe it was on the Bible's Book of Genesis, which I read fairly often. On the one hand it really is necessary to accept some of it on faith while on the other hand too much of it is only truly believable on a metaphoric level. So possibly I'll make an effort to read that one too. Thx - enjoyed. (btw: I believe LeBron James grew up near Cleveland, Ohio, where he lived when drafted into the NBA at 17. My understanding is that James continues to give back to the community generously).
The God of the Woods was the best book I read in July. It’s not as good as her book The Unseen World but a good read. Both have now been optioned to be adapted to film.
Thisi is kind of off topic but if anybody is looking for a wonderful escapist holiday read to get the mind away from all of nowadays troubles I would recommend The Corfu Trilogy by Gerard Durell. The tv series did not do too much for me but my readers instincts told me that there would be a great book behind it and girl it was! It made the list of my ten favourite books of all time. It is very long (it´s three books actually) but when I did get to the end I wished so much it would go on forever. It should be considered that it is set before the second world war though, so there is a slight British imperialism/superialism vibe to it but nevertheless it is so good!
Thanks! I've not made a dedicated video on Caledonian Road but I talked about it quite a bit in my most recent reading wrap up video: th-cam.com/video/RWC5jQAkeVA/w-d-xo.html
@@EricKarlAnderson Thanks.. Our book club in LA started to read it. But then we realized it was a 'state of the nation' book. And I don't know 'state of the nation' books seem to work better if you live in that nation.
Obama and/or his people have good taste. I couldn't get into Martyr!, it was OK but not as awe inducing as I expected. I read James, The God of the Woods, and had a few others on my TBR. I'm surprised his music list doesn't include Chappelle Roan!
I love President Obama’s book and music lists. He has such great taste with both!!!! I have read a few of the books. I have curated a great TBR and music playlist thanks to his lists. ❤❤🤎❤️🖤❤️💙💙

Yes, the music lists are great too even though I don’t keep up with new music that much.

I appreciate the way you broke down President Obama’s summer book list!

I've read and greatly enjoyed James and The God of the Woods. Several more of these sound very interesting. Barack Obama's lists are always solid!
This is great! Thanks for covering this topic i knew he talks about his reads but didn't know he puts it lists
Thanks for sharing Obama’s reading list. Definitely has turned me
on to a few new books.
I am halfway through "Everyone Who is Gone Is Here". Heartbreaking and necessary is what I can say about it so far. It should be read by all of us - Left and Right.
I am not a basketball fan, but I will read anything by Hanif Abdurraquib. I love his writing. I find he is a very generous author.
I hadn’t seen Help Wanted anywhere, but I happened to pick it up randomly and just loved it. I am so happy to see it on Obama’s list!
I loved James, but I was underwhelmed by The Ministry of Time. So many on this list are on my TBR. It’s fun to see his list each year.
Several are in my TBR list. I actually just recently finished the Jonathan Blitzer book about Central America and the border crisis and would highly recommend.

James is my favorite book so far this year. Loved it.
A question; Did you read/review Daniel Mason’s North Woods? I was really impressed.
Knowing what Obama reads is inspirational. Its fascinating knowing what such a talented, intellectual man is taking in. Can you imagine Donald Trump's reading list???
The only book on his list is The Art of the Deal by DJT
Interesting this is the second Liz Moore book to make Obama’s list. I think Long Bright River was on it a few years ago…which I thought was excellent. I then tried The Unseen World, which was just ok for me. Excited to try this one!
Thank you for that overview! James is on my August TBR....maybe next. ;)
I think perceval has a new book
Can't wait for you to review it!

Still coming off Mad Honey. Will try some of Barack’s. What’s Michelle reading?
Although God of the Woods is a bit chunky... it's a page turner so you'll get through it in not time!!

eric please read bear. it was the best book I read all years and no one is talking about it
Do you mind saying the author name? Julia Phillips or Marian Engels?
@@Andreas231x I'm assuming the Julia Phillips one as it is 2024, whereas the other one is from 1994 or something

In the interest of impartiality, would you also be discussing Trump's reading list? 🤣
Poor thing, I’m sure it’s every book written about him
this a higher level reading list.. Trump has not even read the laws...😂😂😂😂
