Gino is a fantastic singer and composer. He is a real and authentic musician. His music is really amazing. I don't understand how he hasn't won a grammy yet..
Refined musician and wise man. This is the reason why , after more than 40 years he is alive well and so ageless. Much more than a simple "rock star"....One of the greatest artist and musician of our age. Long life to Gino!

I am one of those fans who've been with Maestro Vannelli since "Crazy Life," 1973. Ive grown up inside & out, have lived & loved to Gino's music. He's a part of my soul; a genius, a legend, 'THE' Master Class, my "Earth God of Music." I will NEVER leave him & will love his every note... forever.💕
I have been lucky enough to catch Gino live a couple of times. As a fellow Canadian and the same age, I also hold Gino in high regards ... he is the "artist" of my life. He has always and will be in my music rotation. I hope "The Wheels of Life" just keep turning.
I have been in love with Gino since the late 70's. I did have the pleasure of seeing him in concert and he is absolutely still got it! His lyrics are so honest and thoughtful and his music carried me through a very tough period in my life. Love, love, love him and the music.
This interview is extremely well Done. She's clearly done her homework, asked her questions then got out of the way and let Gino really answer the questions fully. This is textbook interviewing and so many people get it wrong. Any aspiring broadcasters out there take note; do your homework, don't "fanboy/fangirl", give your interviewee space to open up and be comfortable . Never ask "gotcha' questions, never ask questions to feed your own ego or embarras your guest, just to make you sound special, and always remember your audience is there to hear/see the person you are interviewing, not you. She's fantastic.
Absolutely agree, and nicely stated. She must adore him as much as we do. So many other interviewers seem to be clueless about his astounding talent and lifetime accomplishments.
I fell in love with Gino Vannelli's music when I was about 11 or 12 in the late 70's. My older sister had Powerful People, the first songs I heard. I would sneak and play it on her turntable. When I was old enough I went and bought all of the Gino albums I could find and followed him through the decades. I saw him for the first time live in 2005 right after he'd completed Canto which I had not heard. He talked a lot about the experience and played several pieces. I did not go pick up that album until now, after just seeing him perform in 2018 in OH. It's lovely, and being bi-lingual, and having lived in Spain long ago, it was great to hear the Spanish guitar influence in several of those songs. Gino is a talented and great musician and seemingly a decent human being. I am forever a fan.
There are few geniuses in the world of music who are multi-instrumentalists, amazing singers + composers w/a brilliant stage presence and storytelling ability, brilliant producers + conductors, and of the most original music composed for solo to full out orchestration (Pauper in Paradise side 2). His latest Wilderness Road released in 2019 (IMO) is up there w/Storm At Sunup and Brother to Brother. I put Gino in the league of Joni, Stevie, Lennon/McCartney, Jagger Richards, et al...plus he's humble and real-a rare quality in world class talents. May you continue to enjoy music and tour for as long as you are inspired to do so Gino-your audience is here, believe it!!
underrated genius that i have had the privilege to not only see many times live on stage but got to spend time with him on a personal level. Truly a gifted artist.... still wish he worked on a film soundtrack / score as I am sure that would be spectacular.
Beautiful man and beautiful voice and awesome performer over the years. I HAVE MY GINO T-SHIRT ON TODAY! ALWAYS FEEL GREAT WHEN I HAVE GINO ON -- and sometimes someone will ask, "WHO IS THAT?" It's Gino Vanelli, do know know who Gino Vanelli is? It's probably a generational thing. That's OK. Getting lost in Gino is a great way to spend an afternoon. or night.
Gino is addictive. His music and his obviously seductive quality make you keep craving more. Sensuality that comes from within and is exuded through an incredible voice. I want to take music lessons! But I'd have to ask myself, would I be studying music, or would I be studying the teacher?
Great interview. If Gino did nothing but vocalize, that gift alone would be sufficient to justify greatness. Given the fact that he also possess the gifts for composing and arranging music of such beauty, complexity and tremendous quality places him in a very elite echelon. I first heard him in 1975 and finally saw him live in Oct, 2016. It was a beautiful experience and how a man in his 60's can wield a voice that is even better than it was over 40 years ago just adds another element of awe. The list of artists of this caliber is short and definitely endangered. The way music is devolving, soon the order of the day will be a collection of caterwauling, tone deaf posers strumming out of tune guitars accompanied by a monkey banging on a drum machine. Oh, too late...
the1realanalogman And the corporate Establishment will do everything in their power to dumb down entire human population :-) Easier to govern... I grew up as a musician, trained myself to become a pianist only to find out that by the time I was ready to hit a pro level- there was no way to promote anything of any value... We live on a wrong planet.
Nicola I completely agree 100 percent. I’m an established professional musician and for the first time in my life I don’t really see the future for us. The demand for artistry is gone on all levels - there are just a handful of places where you can promote something great. As you say : “hamburgers and French fries” of arts took over. The vast majority of population wouldn’t even digest pieces like “Where Am I Going”, because people don’t even know what to listen for in musical pieces... The music education is gone from schools, and mediocrity rules :-)

Wow, he really knows his stuff musically, he's not just a singer. Didn't know he plays guitar. When asked for advice for musicians I notice he didn't say "listen to rap." Much respect.
Gino also plays keys and is a drummer. That's him drumming on his debut album 'Wonderful Life'. It's also the reason why he always has such great drummers and fantastic bands.

I am stunned. 😲I cannot believe Gino Vannelli, whose music I have adored since childhood, parted his lips to utter a gross Music History non-truth. (Or, perhaps, in the moment [around 3:10], he was not prepared to fully articulate what he REALLY intended to communicate)? Maurice Ravel (as well as Claude Debussy) ADMITTED that his piano Concertos were INFLUENCED by Jazz that he heard in the United States. Therefore, Ravel CANNOT be "the Father of Jazz" as Mr. Vannelli states in this interview. I, too, respect Ravel's genius, but Ravel did not create chord changes; they existed in time and space long before Ravel; he merely documented his realizations, as did Bach, Beethoven, Purcell, Handel, Mozart, and others. This is the beauty of studying Form and Analysis; if he/she is fortunate, the student eventually begins to HEAR what the early composers must have heard/realized, then documented as musical compositions. Since the chord changes existed in time and space, other musicians and composers could also derive the awareness of the progressions (but, perhaps other musicians and composers did not document their realizations). An awareness of undocumented chord progressions is indeed noteworthy, and still, Ravel, although brilliant in classical forms, was NOT the initial source of the masterful American musical art form known as Jazz. What Gino states in this interview is simply not true. I suspect that deep down he knows the truth, regardless of what he says. 💛
