Wow. I worked with Inertial Measuring Navigation Systems in the early 1970's in the Navy. It weighed about a ton. had 3 gimbels for the stable platform the had 3 gyroscopes for X, Y and Z axis stabilization and 2 pulse integrated pendulous accelerometer. Now it is the size of a postage stamp.

Navy probably still using much bigger IMUs for better precision.

@@blueeengineer4373 That system was made by Sperry Gyroscope. Before I got out I worked on the next generation by Autonetics. It used 2 IMU's for better precision and where the size of small file cabinet. Both systems inertial platforms had to be perpendicular to the earths surface for the accelerometers to work correctly. Earths rotation, gravitational anomalies, coriolis and a few other things where always a challenge to compensate for. After I got out the Navy started using the ESGN (Electrostatically Suspended Gyro for Navigation) system which was celestially oriented rather than earth frame referenced taking out any errors caused buy the earths rotation.

Wait a second, do you have the Sparkfun LED sign behind you keyworded to respond to "Sparkfun"?!??!

How many times do you see that happen?

It happens twice when he says it and twice without. Looks like a happy coincidence.

Will you please post the example code that controls the paper plane in the video?

The code is a sloppy mess, just a fast throw-together to get it operational. But I will clean it up so it makes sense, and get that posted, hopefully by the end of the week.

Can you avoid having to rotate the chip every time after power down when using it as a compass?
We need to get the iron offsets from the chip and reload them on power up to give faster cold starting.

Is there software to turn this into a trajectory. XYZ Roll, Pitch Yaw or something like that?

I’m wondering what option would be better? The mpu 6050 or this chip? Could you give us some pro-cons between the two? That would be really helpful.
