Thanks for posting this Scott. I had a Tormek before I started turning and I've been very happy with how it works with turning tools. I especially love how quickly I can reseat a gouge in the jig, clean up the edge and get back to work. Since I only have the one wheel I went with a 180 grit CBN. I've wondered about whether it was worth refining further - either with a hand hone (like the DMTs) or on the leather wheel. Not sure if I am just not patient enough with the wheel. Have you tried refining the edge there and do you see any benefit?
If your final edge is a 180 I'd bet you'd see a difference with something finer. I've tried the hand honing thing but my results weren't great (likely because my hands aren't accurate enough) I've tried the leather wheel and haven't found it to produce an edge that seems to last longer than the diamond fine wheel makes. That said I haven't done any scientific tests. I try to keep everything very simple functional more than perfect 😆

You dont take away the burr after the tormek? I have the extra fine diamondwheel and I feel I need to take it away like i do with sloydknifes!
I don't find it makes a difference when the burr is on the inside of the bevel. The outside is extremely clean
