I bought a 6.4 PRC X-Bolt Pro for hunting here in Nevada. Four days ago, shooting from a bench, I got a SUB 1/2" 4 shot group at 100 yards using 143 gr. Hornady ELD-X Precision Hunter factory ammo.

Good rifle. I filled the freezer with an X Bolt stainless hunter .300 win mag last season on a mule deer hunt in Northern Nevada. It was strapped on a gun rack on the front of my quad for 4 days traveling through snow, brush and mud. I got my deer on the 4th day with a 180 grain Remington Core Lokt bullet standing free hand shot. I was worried about it because of the abuse that it took through most of the hunt. Got it home and cleaned it with some Rem Oil...and it looks brand new. Go stainless!!!

I have the X-Bolt Composite Stalker in .25-06 with a Leupold VXiii 3.5-10x50 scope. It is a perfect combo for everything from Elk down here in N. America. One feature I did not hear the video mention was the rubberized feel of the stock, which is excellent in the field for maintaining control of the rifle. I Frequently hunt whitetails out of climbers and when you have gloves on and/or it is raining, that just-the-right-amount of extra grip really is awesome.

I know your comment was 8 years ago but I just bought the same rifle and have the same scope you have, just wondering what kinda rings you have on your rifle, some ppl are saying the mediums by Talley will work with that scope and some say it won’t

Thanks for the video. Some of the advertising states that barrels are hammer forged, but the barrel is actually button rifled. Browning's own site states this on the Product and Technical terms page, under "rifled", and also in a video on the X-Bolt's page on Browning's site the engineers/designers mention that it's button rifled. Appreciate your great review :)

I have a SS stalker in 7 mm rmag, and oh yeah sub moa is very, very possible. I'd post my paper if I could, after I bought a bipod for it I have been able to get three successive shots to touch fairly frequently - usually lined up in a row vs. a clover leaf, and have seen shots that are just wide of following the same trajectory and are only barely detectable. I'll say having a .22 bolt action practice with helps a lot in achieving shots like that, even still I have to prepare myself to shoot the 7mm REM MAG, it's no joke. Glass is Ziess Conquest.

My x-bolt shots 5 rounds within 1,5 cm on 100m distance, shooting from sand sac with Lapua FMJ ammo. It is the best rifle I have seen!

I bought LH Hunter in 308 Win here in Slovenia because of your great representation. I'd rather have it in 30-06, but I'd have to wait for 6 months for delivery. Great rifle for money (1188 Euro). With Sako Superhamerhead 150grs and Sellier&Bellot PTS 180grs, Sellier&Bellot FMJ 180grs and Federal Power Shock 180grs it shoots groups around 1,5 cm at 100 meters (with Swarovski 6x42).
Can't wait for first May and the start of hunting season on Roe buck :)
Thank you for helpig me decide...

On open. Supposely the 60 degree bolt throw of the A-bolt and X-bolt (and Weatherby Mark V, I guess) makes the bolt lift more difficult than a 90 degree throw, but in actual practice, I haven't noticed the difference.

  • @molle232

I personally prefer the new Xbolt , feeds silky smooth and it fits like a glove and ejects into your hand with mitts or gloves on, Ilike the rem detach mag as well, a love the clip in the Mossberg 4X4 althougth the rifle and and action are of lesser quality! The clip in the Abolt loads easier than the Xbolt but is a major pain in the ass to insert into the rifle, I think it is a pain for truck hunting cause I've broken 3hinge plates either breakin them off or wrecking the plate spring!

I'm thinking about picking up one of the x bolts for my new rifle. This video was a good help. I am curious if those groups would have shrank down a bit, had you been sitting (not standing) and your target paper wasn't flapping in the wind... rifles also tend to shoot better once they have been fouled slightly with a couple of shots. 1 moa is pretty good all things considered. But would be nice to see the rifles true potential.

Bottom line for me and pretty much all people I have hunted with through out my 25yrs of huntin, all prefere the detachable mags and for any style of hunting especially truck, quad hunting or from horse back the detach. mag is essential! because when exiting the mode of transportation numerous times / day it calls for fast and easy loading of the rifle!

You don't consider it safe practice to hunt with a cartridge in the chamber but apparently have no regard for your eyes. The logic escapes me.
I've never been to Australia so I won't presume to tell you how to hunt, but where I live and hunt most shots are taken under 100m and sometimes 50m or less. I have a hard enough time slipping the safety off and taking aim without alerting the deer much less running the bolt without being noticed.

I had an X-bolt Stainless Stalker in .270wsm was a solid gun, but not very accurate for the price. traded it in and picked up a Sako Hunter in 270wsm same ammunition used in the browning which got a group of 1.5" at 200m in the Sako the best group was 0.9" at 200m. The paper speaks for it's self

You obviously hav had A bad experience with ONE detachable mag. I have used them all my life in numerous different guns and have never had them freeze or not work when they are full of snow, oh did I mention I live in central Canada, & annually hunt in - 30degrees celius temps! In waste deep snow! My browning Xbolt and before that a-bolt never failed or not cycled a round! I also own Winchesters, Mossbergs and Tikkas! YOU could always hunt with a $200 Stevens, if thats not to much $ for you!

I have a 300 win.mag x bolt love that hunting rifle never let me down when I need accuracy ( I load my ammo ) In my opinion x-bolt it's more accurate then this video shows, just add a muzzle brake on mine, turn the trigger for lite pull, check the beading glass> It's all that I need from a hunting rifle .If you have doughs check my video ;... bear hunting head shot... and the last thing... you need accuracy? .. load your ammo .. and shoot more... you 'll get there ..

I have the xbolt in 7-08 Remington and shoot Winchester ballistic tips. This year shot a white tail deer at 150 yards right through the spine. It fell like a ton of bricks. It is a great gun. Too bad in Australia they have those nutty gun laws-I guess the do-gooders feel safer.

I watched a guy at my local gun range shoot one of these in 300 win mag, his gun would not group worth a darn , even with different ammo and bullet weights. the guy was a good shot, I have seen him shoot other rifles well. he must have gotten a bad barrel. left me skeptical about but one. they look nice , but a grand is too much of a risk for me 🤑
